If you don't know anyone in the slammer, pay no attention to the instructions, however, Securus is a company that is as low as they come. They're basically the same as calling a 1-900 number, or sex line, with the ridiculous, brutal fees, like 20 minutes for 1.99+14.99 and them gaining access to your account. They literally have the receiver by the grapefruits and all calls must be paid with CC or debit. It used to be the calls would be charged to your phone bill. Not anymore.
You have a loved one, or friend in jail, dealing with crooks like Securus are the only means of communication by phone, and they use that to their full advantage, hence the outrageous charges.
After maybe two calls, you've got to open an account to buy time and keep adding. What I've dealt with Securus, two calls can ad up to $40 and losing $100 in a matter of days is nothing.
If it all possible, DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH SECURUS AT ALL! They're a batch of leeches, making families and friends pay even more for loved ones' mistakes and errors.

This is some kind of collect call from a correctional facility. You can call them back to block any calls from them.

Go onlne and try an inmate search for your state and county. Or if they committed a crime in another state, try that state's search. The more information you have about the person, the better the chances are you'll find them. Most states and counties do offer an inmate search online. Good luck!

Got 3 calls like that this month. Everyone I've spoken to, unless it was a legit call (this company does offer inmate calling cards), had simple names calling. Eg. Mike, John, Joe,  Tom,  etc.

There is a legit service And there is a scam that goes with this number that is not legit. Just saying.... read the reports against this company. Inmates can also pick phone numbers to call at random and those thinking they might know the inmate can add time via their credit card to the inmate's legitimate account, however it's you getting scammed by an inmate into you thinking you know them. And that is not illegal! Anyone can call anyone and ask for money.  If you give it to them it's your own free will.
