Started getting about 10 calls a day that hang up as soon as we pick-up. I called back and it is Time Warner Customer Service. I explained the problem and said I wanted it stopped. I was told they were running some special promotions but would put me on a No Call list which would take a couple of days to take effect .... will see.

I live in fairborn, OH, and they've been calling me at least once a week since January 9th, when I asked them to take me off the list.  I've asked four times.  In fact, the woman today said there was no record at all of me being taken off of the list.  I asked her to make several notes on the account after doing it to ensure that a record of me being taken off of the list was present.  We'll see if this works.

Many times it is a computer calling to determine what time of the day that you answer the phone or simply that the computer has connected to more lines then there are telemarketers available to take them....this is why there is "no one there."  They will eventually call you back when you answer the phone the most, and also sell this information to another telemarketing company, illegally of course.  The best solution is to contact your cell/home phone provider and block the number.  Also, a report to the Federal Trade Commission will certainly help (ftc.org) especially if your cell phone is now your home phone.  It won't be long until the FTC recognizes a cell phone as a home phone since everyone is dropping their landline.  Don't bother threatening them with false claims that you won't follow up with (I'll cancel TWC, call the police, etc) they hear this hundreds of times a day and don't simply care what you do...they are more educated on how this works than we are.

SSN should NOT be used for ID and certainly not over the phone.  It is a TAX ID number.

I called back and they gave me cable with the internet i already had for $10 dollars more a month. Might be worth your time to call back.

Be as insulting as you can to the caller with obsene names, racial slurs, etc. They will be so insulted that they won't call back. The telemarketer will put a note on your number to warn the other telemarketers not to call you number. Trust me, I worked the business for years and we never call an abusive person

i answered a call from this number and they hung up... are you suuuure they want to sell me something?

Luckily my cell phone has a call reject list... every time I get one of these random 800 numbers that doesn't leave a voice mail, it goes on the list.

I've been getting these calls at all hours, whenever I pick up, they disconnect.  I called the number, and it was time warner cable's "promotions" department.  They connected me to an operator over a terrible connection, I told them if I received another call from them, I'd go elsewhere for internet access.  They asked for my name and phone number, then hung up on me.

Company trying to sell services (i.e., telemarketing) to my cell phone, stop wasting my minutes!!

I blocked the number from calling my phone. Time Warner was incredibly unhelpful and that seemed the most expedient way.

You're incorrect.  The Government does in fact have a Do Not Call List, and companies can be charged for violating it.  I signed us up a couple of years ago, and I do not get sales calls, other than from companies I already do business with (such as Time Warner.)

I've also worked in sales.  Might want to check your "facts."
