- AL replies to Nancy| 4 repliesSame thing just happened to me. Thanks for sharing, as it seems people will do anything these days to scam our personal info out of us!
- Glenow| 7 repliesI got a voicemail cause I don't answer unknown numbers. They said they were with Untied Health care Optum and to call back on 1-888-200-1118 and use file number bla bla bla. I called United Health care with the number on my card. I told the rep I got a call from this number. After he looked it up he couldn't find a call from them. I said they left a file number and gave that to him as well. After he looked up the file number and talked with his supervisor they called Optum (the company they use to file claims). Optum did call and I was connected with them and took care of the claim. IT IS LEGITIMATE. IT IS NOT A SCAM. Don't believe me, do as I did and call United Health Care and and tell them it might be Optum that called but you wanted to go through what you knew was a legitimate was to find out.

- Tygerkat replies to Glenow| 1 replySo you know it's "not a scam" but you came to a phone number look-up site anyway?
People! Phone numbers are easily spoofed so it is wise to never give a random caller personal information. Instead, hang up and call a known number for them - not the one thery give you! - Tygerkat replies to Glenow| 4 repliesBy the way, did UHC explain why Optum claims to be UHC instead of simply stating they are an affiliate?
- Glenow replies to CWG40| 2 repliesIt's not UHC. It's not a scam either. It's Optum. Optum is a company that files health claims for UHC. When they question a claim that comes across their desk they call you for information about the care that you got. It's not a scam and if you want to go through UHC to get connected with Optum you can do that as well. This will save you some heart ache cause you wont get bills UHC is supposed to pay. I'm also not part of scam but if you want to test my results you can call UHC after you get one of these calls, tell them you think it may be OPTUM and give them the file number you receive from that call. It's a safe way of knowing it's legit.
- BigA replies to Glenow| 1 replySince you are pushing so hard to get people to call this number back or to answer the call, I would say that you are part of the scam. You still have not explained why, when you claim the call was legitimate, you then went on the internet to learn more about the call. There are two reasons why people take the time to look something up. First because they want to learn more, which in this case, who is calling and why. Clearly not the reason in your case, since you clearly know everything there is to know about the call. Now the second reason, at least as far as what we have found through experience is that someone is part of the scam and wants to either do damage control or wants people to think that the call is legitimate. It is looking a lot like you are in the second category. Or, maybe you are simply one of the site trolls trying to tie up people so that they cannot help others?
- David Boskey| 2 repliesI have medical insurance with United Healthcare and they use Optum to check if medical procedures that are done are related to a auto accident, workers' compensation case or a sports/exercise related injury. They have left messages on my phone on a number of occasions with the return phone number of 888-200-1118. IT IS NOT A SCAM. The only questions that they ask you are 'Yes' or 'No'. They provide the date of service and ask if it was related to an automobile accident Y or N, is it related to a workplace accident Y or N, is it related to a sports/exercise injury Y or N, is it of an unknown origin Y or N? If you answer 'No' to the first three and 'Yes' to the last one, they reply 'Okay we will inform United Healthcare to process the claim' That's it. They ask for NO personal information...only the case number (it is not a claim number) that they left on the voice mail and either Yes or No. They are only checking to see if there may be another responsible party for the claim. These people swearing that it is a scam must believe every conspiracy theory that comes down the pike!
- Caller: Optum on behalf of United Healthcare
- Call type: Valid
- David Boskey replies to Tygerkat| 3 repliesThey don't say they are United Healthcare...they say your medical insurance company (United Healthcare) has engaged Optum to review medical claims. See my post below for further info.
- BigA replies to David Boskey| 1 replySo, you obviously knew who called you. You claim they are legitimate. If you knew all of that, then why did you bother to look up the number? Were you that eager to tell the whole world what you claim to know?
P.S. you might want to read my post right above your first post as well, because I think you also fit into category #2. - Tygerkat replies to David BoskeySo the people who said this caller claims to be UHC are lying? Why should we believe you instead of them?
- MikeHuntletonKeep in mind, just because a number MIGHT be legit, doesn't mean the caller is!
Scammers spoof legitimate numbers to trick people into a false sense of security to answer their calls and attempt to get money or personal information from you.
This is why no one will encourage others to report of legitimate numbers, as they only confuse people into believing it is a legit call when a scammer has called them and they come here to find out about the call.
People who get legitimate calls would know its legitimate and have no reason to come looking up the number.
800notes is about exposing scammers, shady businesses and harassing type calls from debt collections, surveys, political and telemarketers or anyone who scams, lies or cons people.
People come to share those experiences to help each other understand who is bothering them and share what information they can to help point a finger at those criminals. The data is useful in knowing the frequency of the calls and even allow someone enough info to research towards getting a company's background history towards legal action.
The idea is to stop criminal callers, but posting about legitimate calls will not help anyone stop them. Sure people want to know who called and it could have been a legitimate call, but it only takes one post with confirmation of who the legitimate owner is to establish if its a call you can decide was legitimate for you. The fact that scammers can spoof ANY number is enough to say that even legitimate numbers have scammers who call pretending to be legitimate, so you just don't really know who is calling.
Shills will come here to post about the number being "legit" and try convincing people to answer the call so they can scam you. So why help the criminals by posting about your call being legitimate? It has no impact on a legitimate business, only the shady ones and thats what we want to expose. Your legitimate post will only add confusion for others who read posts by those who shill about using the numbers they spoof.- Caller: Informational Posting
- ConcernedGot two calls from them, very leery of calls like this. They always seem to call during the day, when people are at work! Hello, try calling when people would be home. Left a file # for me and an option for going online to give information needed, however when you go online, you do not know what they are referring to. There are no dates of a Dr. visit, etc... so if you have had a few doctor visits recently, how do you know which one they are calling about? To top it off on the top of the page it says Accident Questionaire or something to that effect....If you have not been involved in an accident why would you fill that out?? They really need to enhance their online form if they want people to complete it.

- Heather replies to MelissaI called UHC for the same reason, they stated it is not their reference number & if there wasn't more information in regards to why they were calling beyond a reference number & vague you had an appointment recently, to not call back & wait for them to provide more details. Rep stated most likely related to medication, but I don't have any.
- LJTCall was legit for me. It was in fact Optum who helps determine legitimacy/responsibility of claims for UHC. I think as others have said if you don't call them back, they can keep your claim on hold or maybe even deny it. Just to be on the safe side, I did call the number on the back of my insurance card vs calling this number they left for me.

- Mari| 1 replyThese guys called me 3x already and left a message about either calling them back or going to a website to fill out an online injury questionnaire. The site is icc.optum.com. I called UH and my husband's insurance to verify if it was them. UH always sends me paperwork via snail mail if they want more info on injury claims. Anyway, neither insurance knew anything about this and said they didn't initiate these calls.
Just beware!- Call type: Scam suspicion
- BrianI received several of these robot calls and ended up Calling the number on my UHC card. They said the claim number didn't exist, nor would they reach out to members in this matter regarding a claim. They advised not to call the number and sent it to their internal team. Seems to be a scam.
