- talisTotally SPAM. Called the UHC number on my member card and just like the others here, the operator could not find any notes on my account that UHC tried to call me. She also did not find anything with the "case number" this spammer gave me. The operator also took down the phone number I was called from (twice) and logged it for reference.

- Cin replies to ALI got the same call and then called UCH. They have NO record of calling me and told me NOT TO SHARE anything or call this number back.
- Jeff| 1 replyI called the number on the back of my card and the rep confirmed that it was a legit call. They wanted to tell me about benefits I can get for free this year. So, even though it was a automated voice call it was all good.

That is what everyone should also do and not rely on someone else's call being legitimate to verify theirs was too.Quote:I called the number on the back of my card
Health Insurance scammers spoof these numbers to trick a victim into giving up their personal information, then either run up bogus service charges to the account or impersonate the victim's identification and use it for their own health coverage or for prescription medicines. - Judith| 1 replyVoice mail saying they needed additional information about a United HealthCare case for my husband, left a case number. Sounded fake so I called the United HealthCare number on the back of my card. They didn't make the call and had no reference for the case number. SCAM!!

- Veronica replies to JudithUHC didnt have a record of the call made because they didnt call. OPTUM is a separate company that handles their (UHC and other insurances) claims that deal with auto accidents/work comp accidents/property accident ts/etc. Pretty much anytime someone else should be paying your medical bills instead of your insurance...Optum is used. Next time call UHC and just say you got a call from Optum. They will transfer you.
- BillPer the fact that the caller ID simply said "Toll Free Call" and the recording sounded sketchy, I did not call these people back. However, after repeated calls, I called UHC via the number on the back of the insurance card, and explained my reluctance in answering the other calls. The call-taker confirmed they have a subsidiary that verifies claims for certain things (like back injuries) are not a result of an auto accident or an accident at work. She was able to contact the other company on my behalf and conference us so they could speak with me.
- Caller: Subsidiary of UHC

- SumuluI think it is a real call from insurance company, related to recent visit to family doctor, if it is not a real, that is my worry, since they to too much detailed info about us.

- Daich replies to SLI called UHC. They said it was a scam.
- Daich replies to AnneFunny. I called them and they said it was a scam and not to call it.
- Daich replies to AnneI called UHC. They said that: 1. They don't have robot calls; 2. They don't have 3rd party verification; 3. If they needed such information, they would use the mail. SCAM!
- PamAfter I responded to the phone call I begin to worry that it might be a scam and looked it up in about 50% of the responses seem like a scam so I did UHC. They confirmed that Optum is a subsidiary and does offer both products and checks on accidents for them. He also said they were Required to follow hippa guidelines To confirm identity when speaking on the phone, which would include birthdate and address, but never full Social Security number or any financial information. I told him that their process contacting people was really bad and mimicked scammers

- berterJust give them the incorrect address and date of birth and see what they have to tell you! They will verify that it wasn't a car accident that's all. If you give them the incorrect info they wont say anything because they don't have it LOL
