Said they were calling on behalf of united healthcare regarding health benefits & to contact their rep from optimum (an internet service provider) ..... united healthcare had no knowledge of the phone call or the optimum company ... they are probably calling to get personal information

This is a legit phone number. I checked into it before calling back. Once I logged into my UHC account, Optum is a company mentioned that handles Rx refills. Seeing this, I felt confident enough to call. It was claims related to a date of service I had and simple yes/no questions if injury/work related were asked via automated service.

So it was legit for you. Doesn't mean that scammers aren't spoofing the number to appear legit themselves.  Plus, why are you even here if you know who the number belongs to?

So you know who called but looked the number up anyway? Why? People come here to learn about scam calls. Someone claiming a scall is "legit" doesn't help because so many legitimate phone numbers are being spoofed by scammers. Thus, what may be a "legit" call for you isn't one for all.
A word of advice to others: call a KNOWN number for whomever your caller claims to be, not the number left ina  voice mail or on your caller ID. Check your bill, your membership card, the official website for a number you KNOW goes to whomever you need to reach.

Called United healthcare and the attendant told me Optum was part of their system, but she couldn't tell me what they were calling about.

This is a legitimate phone number.  The automated system says it is Optum calling for UHC, needing to verify info.  I called UHC, and they didn't show any issues in their system.  I called Optum RX, and they didn't show any issues  on their side either.  When I called UHC back, the person I spoke with said it is not Optum RX, it is the subrogation department of Optum, which is why it doesn't show up on UHC's info.  The Optum subrogation department investigates any claims relating to accidents, to see if it is up to them to pay, or if a third party should be responsible for paying the claim.  They do this before the claim is processed by UHC, so UHC doesn't even see that there is a claim in process until after Optum does their investigation.  I burned my hands with steam a couple weeks ago.  The doctor marked it as "accident" and they were verifying it was an at home injury, and not work or third party related.

Called United Healthcare, when I got a similar recorded voicemail, and was told it wasn't United Healthcare calling me. It's a scam, and people on here saying it's not a scam are lying.

Received a robo call from this number stating it was related to my United Healthcare, and was given a file number & asked to call them back. I called United Healthcare # from the back of my card, and United Healthcare told me they have nothing to do with this call. Scam, and people in here saying it's not are most likely part of the scam.

Read above link.  Seems all real numbers from this company are 800, not 888. In any case I called my insurance company directly and they said they have no need of any information on my medical records.  I'm not calling the scam number back and blocking the number. If they really need info they can mail me a legit request.

It IS Optum checking on a recent accident my Wife had, and what the circumstances were. They were working for UHC. This number is valid, and for real.

The call was legitimate in my case. It was in regard to some X-rays I had taken. Optum is a claims research firm that helps United Healthcare determine if your claim was accident related. The guy I spoke with had all the dates and times, plus the particular instance why I needed the X-rays. I grilled him extensively before I gave him any information.

I received a phone call from this # 888-200-1118 twice (consecutive days) in which I did not answer so I was left a recorded message regarding Health Benefits for my husband indicating they were Optum calling on Behalf of UnitedHealthCare, leaves an 8 digit reference # to call to verify some information or to go on their website icc.optum.com to verify what they needed.  I went to the website and saw it was a form to complete for Accident Questionnaire which included the reference #, policy holder name, Full name etc.  I did not complete this of course but called the phone # I have in my phone for OptumRX.  I asked the representative about it, he asked me what the ref. # was, I gave him the 8 digit #, he said there was no reference # on my account, he then checked my husbands account, asked me for the ref # again, I told him, then he said actually the ref. #'s are usually a 9 number, you are missing a #.  I verified the ref. #'s again from both the calls and it was clearly an 8 digit #.  Therefore, this only tells me the call is NOT LEGITIMATE BUT A SCAM........... Go Figure, they will try anything.

    Sigh
This scam is on the rise again. Yippee. Not. I have this ins. & have called them in the past about these calls and they have no record of the file #, phone number, etc. and have repeatedly told me not to answer and always call UH using the number on my card. I also get mailings first from the ins. co., if any information needs to be updated or clarified in the past. As I just recently call them myself and updated my current info., this call remains blocked because of suspected scam activity.

I also received phone calls from this number, yesterday and today 4/11/2019. The voice mail message gave me an option to verify my info on what seemed like a secure website (https://) but the interface from my phone was janky so I stopped entering and assumed I was getting phished for account info. HOWEVER......I called the number for United Health Care from my card, presented the nice lady with this number and the “file number” that Inwas supposed to reference. She put me on hold and called the number herself. This is legit. It was Optum HSA calling to question a recent transaction. I am as suspicious as everyone else so I always google my missed calls and it came up legit. Call your healthcare provider in a number that you know to confirm this yourself.

Most of the calls I get are spoofed or otherwise never leave a message.

Funny side note, once I actually pressed “1” to speak with an operator to “lower my insurance” got someone in India who started asking me for credit card info. I started messing with him. Then after a few minutes he started to curse me out! How rude! 😉.  We should all mess with them for fun...flip the tables in them.
