- Cathy| 2 repliesThis is a SCAM!! Anyone who says it isn't is one of the scammers. They called me trying to get the last 4 of my social security number. They gave me the phone number 888-231-0757 and the case number 177264016. I wouldn't be surprised if they used that same case number for other people, too.
I called the main Wells Fargo phone number from their website, and they told me this phone number is a SCAM that they've had reported to them many times.- Caller: Scam "Wells Fargo"
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- Cathy replies to Kip| 1 replyThis is a SCAM! That is straight from Wells Fargo's mouth when I called their legitimate phone number. Either you don't know what you're talking about or you're part of the scam.
- Cathy replies to vonThis is a scam, confirmed by Wells Fargo. If you're trying so hard to convince people it's not a scam, it seems like you must be one of the scammers.
- Cathy replies to JoGee that's funny. I just got off the phone with Wells Fargo, calling them at the legitimate phone number from their website, and they confirmed to me that this is a scam number reported to them multiple times.
- Cathy replies to JoannThis is a scam number, and since you are trying so hard to convince people it's not, it makes it sound like you are in on the scam.
- Cathy replies to JoannYou sound just like the scammers who called me. They said I could call Wells Fargo or just go to one of the branch offices to find out what was going on, probably hoping that by saying that it makes them appear legit.
- Cathy replies to AlyciaUnfortunately this is a scam. If you think they have your information you should contact all 3 credit bureaus to freeze your credit reports. That is the advice given to me when I called the real Wells Fargo on the number I got from their website.
- Cathy replies to LoriAnnThis is not legit. According to the real Wells Fargo, you should contact the 3 credit bureaus to freeze your credit. Since you gave them your SSN, you should get a copy of your credit report to see if there's been any fraudulent activity.
- SteveLeft two messages and two reference numbers. The first woman wanted to verify my account info. She said she couldn’t verify it and to take my id to a Wells Fargo bank. She was nasty once she found out my wife had questions then hung up on us.
For kicks, I tried to return Austin’s call and remained on hold for 65 minutes and the wife said to hang up. My phone immediately rang and guess who had time to speak to me! He wanted to verify and I told him I don’t have an account with the bank. His response was slow but wanted to pass the info onto the protection department, good GREIF this guy was already trying to scam me from that department earlier in the day!- Caller: Wells Fargo
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- DebThis IS legitimate! I got a call similar to the ones reported by other callers. I also got a letter from "Wells Fargo Fraud & Claims Management". The first thing I did was run my credit which informed me that Wells Fargo had done a credit check on me earlier this month. That told me maybe this we real. But I still called Wells Fargo at the fraud phone number on their website, not the number provided on the letter to make absolutely sure I was talking to the real Wells Fargo in case this was fraud. The first person I talked to said he wasn't familiar with that department and it might be fraud. He passed me to someone on the actual fraud team (not sure why the first guy wasn't in the fraud department when I called the number listed on the fraud website, but whatever. Customer service these days I guess.) The second guy told me it was legit and that someone had opened an account with my information earlier this month and that their system detected fraud and closed the account. This letter was letting me know about the account closure because they detected fraud. They took my information and opened a fraud report establishing that I'm definitely not the person who opened this account. But it's truly legit from Wells Fargo.
- Caller: Wells Fargo

- DebI just posted and can't edit. I realized after I wrote my last post that I haven't verified the phone number is legit in this process. I know there was fraud, but I don't know if the phone number is actually from Wells Fargo since that's not who I called. So be safe and do what I did... call the fraud number listed on the Wells Fargo website. If there are any actual issues, they'll know and be able to help you.
- Dave S| 1 replyReceived a letter stating they are closing my account, I don’t even have a account with Wells Fargo and never ever done any business with them. It’s a scam!
- Bill| 1 replyThey have caled my home phone twice a week for about two weeks i decided to pick it up and tell them stop calling me now i have a letter wanting me to call them back to close my account .Well i have never had a Wells Fargo account in all my years

- LauraI received two letters from Wells Fargo, one of them had this number listed on the letter. Since I was not sure if this was a scam, I went to Wells Fargo's website, wellsfargo.com, scrolled to the bottom of the screen and clicked Report Fraud. I found a different number to call and they confirmed, after significant validation of my identity, an account was opened fraudulently. I believe the letters were legit, the fraud was by someone who opened an account with Wells Fargo using my identity. Call Wells Fargo directly if you are not sure. The phone number is probably fine, but does not get you to their Fraud Department directly.
