    Not Scammed
I have received multiple letters in the mail from these folks.  I did not call the number as I checked the Wells Fargo website which does not list this as one of their numbers.  Google however links it to the Wells Fargo site.  Not sure how to fix that.  SCAM

I too received a call and thought of it as a scam. Went online to Wells Fargo website and called their hotline. The person I talked to said that there was NO new accounts opened using my name or SSN. Told me it must have been a scam and that I had nothing to worry about. That was about 2 weeks ago. Today I receive a letter with Wells Fargo header that was informing me that my account with them was being closed. And that if it was my account I had to contact them or make other arrangements for a new account. I HAVE NO WELLS FARGO CREDIT CARDS, CHECKING OR SAVINGS ACCOUNTS with Wells Fargo. I do however have another type with them and contacted them (Wells Fargo) and confirmed that IN FACT someone did open a CHECKING account in my name using my SSN! So whether you think it’s a scam or not, I recommend you do your do diligence and get it resolved. For me it was not a scam, someone DID steal my identity.

Thanks for posting this. Unfortunately, when trying to call WF directly, it is nearly impossible to get to the correct department. I received this call and do not have a WF account. The automated system is very insistent that the caller enter an account number. I finally got the system to put me over to the fraud department to be advised it would be an approximately 10 minute hold.

Called and left a case number. I have no account and credit has been frozen for 5 years BUT, I called the number online for WF fraud and the did say it is their number. I gave them the case number and what was going on was someone was trying to open an account with my address associated with it. Not my name nor my social. Crazy scammers out there are trying everything. I guess I had nothing to worry about but at least my call helped them stop someone.

Wouldn't it be great if a big company like Wells Fargo had an easy way to get a known, published phone number for them?  You know, like a website?  If you ever get a hold of them you should mention that they need to get something like that up on the internet so that people can easily find it.

Received a call to call them back regarding my Wells Fargo account with a reference number. I do not have a Wells Fargo account so I looked up Wells Fargo Fraud dept and called that number. Spoke to a representative and told her what happened. She looked up the phone number above and it truly is a Wells Fargo number, its from their Online Fraud Dept. She passed me onto that department so I could give them the information for what happend

While this may be a valid Wells Fargo phone number, there's no guarantee all calls from it are from WF. Scammers frequently spoof legitimate phone numbers.

they knew my current statues on my wf account, they knew about some deposit that they didn’t want to do because of “suspicious reasons”, they gave me this number and thank God I did not call it. But I still have no idea how they knew about some deposit of mine that was pending.

I can think of no reason for a bank to question a deposit.  None at all.  How they knew about this "deposit" we can only speculate.

Got a letter in the mail saying my Wells Fargo account was going to be closed due to suspicious activity. I never had an account. Called the number on the letter and they asked for my social to file an identity report. I went into an actual Wells Fargo location because I could not find the number for Wells Fargo's fraud dept on their website, they said right away that the letter was a scam. DO NOT give your personal information to anyone from this number

Had letter, email, and a voicemail  from them saying my account was closing. Thought it was a scam especially after seeing this message board. I still took the letter to my banker. Banker verified in their system that there was a hold on my account. We called the 800 number together to see why and they explained there was fraud conducted in my savings account that I didn’t notice. we got it resolved.

Really?  So you waited until after all that to go to the bank to find out, then came back here to try convincing everyone you and the bank called this number, as if the bank wouldn't have any idea why? Did you both hold hands and walk off into the sunset too?
    Shills are so dumb.......

Well, she did come to "this message board" before going to her bank so i think her lack of intelligence is established.

Clearly others have looked here to see if it was real or not not sure why I’m being called dumb by you and Tygerkat. There were mixed reviews on here on if it’s a scam or not. I’d rather be safe than sorry and verify with the bank. My banker could see the hold placed on my account and a brief description of why but we wanted to go more in depth. My banker also verified the phone number is a number within Wells Fargo. Sorry for taking the extra steps with my account and providing information to others that it was a legitimate notice from Wells.

I have doubts about your posts, since you are "over selling" your story and it looks as if you are trying to convince everyone that any call from this number is going to be legitimate.  Scammers often spoof legit numbers and impersonate banks all the time.  Your story is filled with info that won't help those who get a scam caller and quite frankly it appears more like what a shill would post to convince people.

There are already 6 pages and a simple post saying go check with your bank at a known number, your online account or in person is all that anyone needs to post.  The details of why your call was legit only fuels the thought that those scammer calls will seem legit too.
Take a good look at this website and try to understand its purpose instead of over thinking it next time and everyone will be much safer. Since number spoofing is a common occurance these days, the legitimacy of a number or who it belongs to is not really the issue on a site such as this, it is about the caller.
