About 3 months ago I received 3 letters in a few weeks timespan from Wells Fargo saying I had tried to open a deposit account but unfortunately they weren't able to open the account at that time.  3 letters saying this!  And I have no accounts with Wells Fargo nor have I tried to get one.
This 800 number is listed in the letters.
Then about 6 weeks ago I received 2 letters, same Wells Fargo saying congrats on your new account.
I googled about it being a scam so I chose to do nothing.
Today I recieved 2 letters saying
Subject:  Closure of your deposit accounts and lists an account number with X's only but showing the last 4 digits.
This is absolutely crazy!
I'm gonna report them.

If I had received letters I would have contacted that bank at a known, published phone number or would have taken them to a local branch to be sure that no one is trying to open accounts in my name.

I did call Wells Fargo, but not the number listed on the letters.

I called Wells Fargo and they confirmed that this is a scam. Do not fall for this.

I work for a financial institution and we would not ask for you to verify your full social number because we already have it. Do not give your full social number.

Got a letter saying count closure I don't have a account never have , phone number on letter 1 888 231 0757 ,,

I received a letter stating that my account was going to be closed for no reason. I never opened an account with them. It had this number listed and based on the other people who reported this seems like a scam or something. Pretty convincing letter but not enough to trick me.

Not a scam. I called the WF customer service number (1-800-869-3557) and the banker I spoke with gave the same number (1-888-231-0757) left in the voicemail I received for the WF Prevention Contact Center department.

I received a letter stating that I deposited checks on 9/08/21 and they were expecting a claim from the party that issues them to me and if they did submit a claim, a cashiers check would be sent to me for the amount of $3714.00 and it have the last four digits of an account number. I have NEVER had a Wells Fargo account in my life and certainly didn’t deposit any checks in an account in September 2021. I called the 888-231-0757 and they said it was Wells Fargo but put on terminal hold for the next available customer service rep. I hung up. I find that most banks don’t have and 888 prefix and they were just attempting to get info from me. I haven’t received a check and know it’s just a scam.

John, I agree with you 100% it’s a phishing scam. If you owed a debt, they must contact you in writing at some point. And, no way could you get a home loan with a ding like this from Wells Fargo. I have never had an account with Wells Fargo in my 62 years on earth and never deposited any checks into an account with the as they stated in a letter in September 2021. I’ve seen it all during my military career of over 20 years as a Personnel Security Officer and seeing these things on records of folks that needed a SECRET and TOP SECRET clearance which would prevent them from being cleared for a security clearance. In 99% of the cases we’d get in rectified. So many scammers out there. Thank you for your service in uniform. And, I’m envious you moved to my home state of America. I want to move back but am held back until my wife retires.

I disagree 100%. They sent me a letter that they would send me money from checks I deposited into an account with them. Never had an account with them and certainly didn’t deposit any checks. It’s a scam.

Same thing with me, Dave. Said if a party who wrote checks to me didn’t file a claim the send me a cashiers check for the amount I deposited in an account with them. I have NEVER had an account with them and certainly never deposited money into an account I don’t own. Doesn’t reflect anything on my credit reports and my credit is good.

Scam.  Called from 888-231-0757, and left voice mail saying they were from wells fargo.  I don't have an account with wells fargo.  The same day, 2 fraudulent debits were made against my checking account with a local bank for more than $3,000, and both showed as debits from Wells Fargo.

I received a letter in the mail that my account was going to be closed, but, I have never had any accounts with Wells Fargo.  When I call the number provided, it comes up on my phone's smart ID as the name Ronald J Jackson.  I do not see how this can possibly be legit.

Wanted personal information

My husband just received a call from 888-231-0757. A man stated he was from Wells Fargo. He wanted my husbands personal info. My husband asked what was this in reference to as we do not have an account there. He would not say why he was calling. He stated he would explain that after he received my husbands info. I said no!! Scam! He then tells my husband to go into a local branch.
My husband hung up. SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I received the Wells Fargo letter 2.1.2022. I’ve never had a WF Acct. I searched on google tele # provided in the letter (1-888-231-0757) and found this scam info.

IT IS a SCAM.  Just spoke with the real Wells Fargo.

Called in the middle of the day and offered very specific info few would know relating to a non-existent WF account. They obviously do some research

The number in the letter is not the letter for the Wells Fargo Fraud Prevention department. This letter looks and seems completely legit. DO NOT CALL THE NUMBER IN THE LETTER. Look up Wells Fargo, look up their fraud prevention department yourself, and call that way.
