Same scam here but this is what really pisses me off. Someone banged on my door at 8:00 AM & left this letter on my stoop. Pretty sure it is illegal to deliver US Mail if your not a USPS mail man. Phone number is 1-800-256-9376 & the envelope has a Mail permit #288 out of Anaheim, CA. This is a total scam!!!!!

I received the same letter 12/29/2014 with 800-256-9376 as a call number approval code S41223-25386. I am not going to call after reading all the posts.

Just wanted to let you know I got one of these today 01-14-2015. It looks like a scam to me as well. I think thte FTC would be happy see this. I'm going to scan this and put it on twitter to see what kind of responce I will get. Good luck...

got a letter from this ccap. I looked up the telephone number in it and it came up "cash for gold" and pawn shops in Alabama.
the letter states it's from dc with a 2000 Pennsylvania address and the form is listed as "treasury department". I bet that if requested of our doj they'd claim they can't find anyone. they can read your mail, intercept you phone calls, clean out your bank account if they want but can't catch a bad guy. I wonder what kind of cut they get?

got the same  letter from this 2000 pennsylvania address. But now with new phone number listed is 800 -201- 7493.  Not calling.

I listened to their speech.  They asked me to close my credit cards in order to process this assistance.  When I refused to have any credit card accounts closed, "Ricky" hung up on me!

Got a letter on the mail with a document that looks like a check for $40,500 signed by a Steven A. Smithe & a 1-888-428-5894 & a return address of 2000 PA Ave NW 285, Washington DC for a debt reduction program for student loans with an approval code & a deadline date to call about it.  Seriously, have you ever seen the last name of "Smith" spelled "Smithe"  ? !!  Quite the scam.

I got the same letter today with the 2000 Pennsylvania Ave NW 285, Washington DC return address on it. At first glance it looks like it is from the government, I agree; but surely looks suspicious all the same. The document I received is for SLAP student loan assistance program with what appears to be a check endorsed by the same Steven A. Smithe. I cannot find anything legitimate about this online, nor are there any company names listed on the document. Sure, it would be great to eliminate some of my debt immediately, but that's not how life works. I'm confident that this is a scam.

Absolutely a scam. The government does not send mail without putting their exact Agency and address. Please do not call. Also, the so-called-check (72,000) has no account or routing number--hence it is NOT a real check

Got the "notice" in the mail.  Sent from 2000 Pennsylvania Ave NW #285.  No company name was on the mailer.  However they are using a different toll free # then what other consumers stated in their comments.  These people are actually in Coronado, CA.  I spoke to a person by the name of Gabe Hernandez.  He never did state the name of the company other than Consumer Services.  I tried to look up the toll free number in the Coles Directory with no luck.  I tried the same thing with the direct  number he gave me. Very little luck that way.  I called the direct line this morning at 0300 AM just to see what I would get.  Only thing I got was his name on his voice mail.  No company identification at all.  If these people were on the up and up they would have at least ID'd the company they work for.  What really bothers me is that they knew, in dollars, how much my debt was.  So:  BEWARE

Ref my comment above.  The toll free number on the"notice" was 855-275-8466.  Mr. Hernandez's number is 619-365-8318
