Got a check for $37.000. Yes it looks like an official check but when I Googled Steven Smithe, I gratefully found all the coments confirming that this is a scam.  Needless to say, I won't be making any call to 888-214-3485! Thanks to everyone  for sharing.

These Scams need to stop replies to puzzled
People are desperate for help why do scammers think that us consumers are not wise enough to Google everything? I received a letter with hope that I would be able to seek help and of course I came to the conclusion that it was too good to be true

Nope, it comes with a catch.  Huge interest rates and lots of advance fees.  Take the check and the envelope it came in to the post office and have them forward it to the postal inspectors.

Same, got one today for $15k. Seemed shady that there wasn't a specific business associated with it. Glad I know now it's a scam, reporting them to my post office tomorrow.  8882143487 2000 Pennsylvania Ave n.w. #285 Washington DC  20006

I received a mailer today with the same information, different amount and telephone# 888-834-4762. Apparently they haven't given up yet. Looks like they have been trying this scam since 2014. Be careful people

I got this official looking mailer today from 2000 Pennsylvania Ave. NW #285. It says Congratulations, I have so much in debt and they can help me be debt free in 12 - 36 months. My savings would be $18,000 and I don't even have that much in credit card debt. (That's be a good trick) It was also signed by John L. Clark. Says it's for my town only and the phone number I got was 888-655-3764. Says I have $30,000 in credit card debt (which I don't - no where near that) and they can reduce it to $12,000. I'm never late on a payment and pay more than the minimum due. How did they get my name and this misinformation. Have to contact them by 2/10/2017.
