I got two identical copies mailed to me today. I have been getting this back in my old address as well..they just don't know when to stop.

They're still trying so it must have worked before. It looked strange at first glance but, I also knew nobody owed me money so receiving a check screamed scam. Read the fine print and it says on the face of the check that "this is not a live check".

I too got basically, what looks like a income tax, or some sort of government check. For 42,000.. to be used, to city my student loans in half, which would be great, since more that half is interest, on loans, I didn't know I could get help with, and now because of so much interest,,, even with, consolidating my loans, and going by my income, which isn't much,  is have to pay, over 200.00 a month,, to even try to get it down at least some... if more that once, got ready to make payments, since I'd gotten a decent job..only to have the job disapear,,, because,, of the companies, not being reimbursed, by the government agencies,, they were working for....   so, as far as we know these are part of some sort of scam???  Which I'd kinda figured,,, to good to be true...   has anyone gotten,, any information on this??? Phone number, on my check, is 888-567-2283...  check for 42,0000.. signed by Steven A. Smithe...  NEW Student Loan Assistance  Program... or SLAP... They say it's called....   scam??? Most likely??? Anyone?

Be careful,,, when Iv had scammed in the past, try to get hold of me, and to borrow,,, I can usually figure out eventually,  that they are scammed, by the way they're sentences are put together. . I then tell them I'm a law enforcement officer, which I true was at one time.... they generally, disconnect,  immediately,, or hang up.... case closed,,, and obviously a scam,, by they're behavior...

Sorry for the incorrect words,, in the wrongoing, spots... my phone, spell check, runs, rampant,,, with its own wording,,, making for posts,, that make it seem like some uneducated fool wrote it... Iv tried to shut spell check off,,, but my android phone,, won't allow, it!!!

I got one too, sounds too fishy .  $35000.  also says offers are limited in my area.  I googled SLAP student loan assistance and can't find anything so guessing its a scam

I receive the same letter, oh course the check is not a live check. The routing number is 1234568 and the signature is Steven A Smithe, hmmmm sounds prerogative legit, whatever. When I called the number they were all busy and the girl could not tell me anything but that someone would call me back so let's see. I'm not stupid, there's not even a bank name on it.

I recieved a check in the amount of $15,000. It gave me a phone # 888-567-2804 l call and it tells me l will get a call back and l never do. A secure approval code is C70329-10114 l need to find out about this is it.legal or not.My phone is 9049943545. Thank You

I know it has to be a scam, just upset that some people got "checks" for $50,000 & all I got was $15,000 :(

Got a check for $22,000 today signed by john l Clark.  Phone number 888-882-1292.  It does say this is not a live check

I got a check for $15,000 . I did some research and the address came up to a shopping mall.  The word scam is written all over this.

THIS IS A SCAM FOR SURE ONCE a week someone calling or sending mesages its crazy cant trust anything any more

I just received a letter in the mail. It looks like a federal check and offers to reduced my credit card debt by $20,000. Check is signed by John L. Clark, phone number 888-276-0972. Also claims enrollement is limited in my area. If it's not a debt settlement, debt management program or bankruptcy services then what else is out there?? This is a SCAM!!!!

I got this same check for $12,000 yesterday.  I'm assuming the check wasn't legit?

Was it mailed by the USPS??    If so, take the check AND envelope to the post office & forward it to the postal inspectors.

I doubt that piece of paper has everything on it to qualify as a real check.  This is a scam to sign you up for something that will cost you a lot more than what you are paying to the credit card companies.  Take MJG's advice.

Credit card assistance program, same address, $22,000 , signed by John Clark..... I actually called , spoke to a nice guy named Dominic.... Answered all the questions as if I was applying for a lagitamit loan , seemed professional with his questions and explained everything clearly, was put on hold a few times to see if I was going to qualify..... He needed my ss# to access my true credit score and debt that was unsecured so they had a number to work with..... Wish I would have looked on here first!  Became very pushy at the end when I inquired I needed time , because I was working from home, to gather my banking info that they needed to set up payments to them..... Basically they are offering to use their legal knowledge to eliminate my unsecured debt with the credit cards, he said the credit cards have lenders insurance in place to cover the cost of my debt that is now not going to be paid , they will somehow manage to eliminate this unsecured debt , but not by making any payments to them.... Then they say they will work on repairing my credit .... It will only cost me $600 a month for 25 months!  What a deal! Hmmmmm I may as well pay my credit card debt for that much!  Needed me to get on my email so we could go through the details and me sign, and give bank account info.... I said I was going to look into this company first.... So glad I saw this site first!  Boy do I feel stupid!  Worried a bit that I gave him my ss# but just glad I didn't give more information!  He told me that they have a C- rating from the BBB but that is because other competitor companies make false reports on them ..... Boy is he going to be sad when he calls me back at 2:00 and I don't answer!
