They've been calling every day now for the past week. I've told them we're on the do not call list, but they ignore me. Have noticed an increase in these kinds of calls lately--as though some companies feel they now have permission to ignore the list. What's up with that?

This number has called my house numerous times! My husband and I have donated a couple of times but can no longer afford to do so anymore. We have tried to be polite about the whole thing, but they are rude and won't listen. Now whenever they call (which is about 4 times a day!) I don't answer it! You would think they would get the point after a while??

I was so appaled at the way I was treated I emailed the company this is my e-mail, the reply I got follows Please read.

    Hi my name is Cindy,

I received a call from one of your "representatives" (I use that term VERY LOOSELY). First off she spoke so fast I could not understand most of what she was saying. Second and most important after asking me for a donation ( I already support the American Cancer Society with regular donations) I told her politely that I couldn't make a donation at this time tha.....she started talking OVER me saying that I didn't have to send anything in now....again I said "I can't a......." and again she started talking saying "just $15.00 will help a dying child don't you want to help a child from dying?" I began to speak again to tell her  "I was sorry.....I know how imp....." and this time she hung up on me.    VERY RUDE! after that I will NOT give to YOUR organization.

You need to train your people with a bit of phone etiquette, manners, and some listening skills.  Ya'll might get more donations that way.   People will not donate when they feel pressured into it. if they do they are not giving in good faith they are giving because they feel pressured into it.   Would your representatives want to be called at home and when they politely refuse a donation to an organization like to have "guilt" used on them to get their money?  Would they like to be talked OVER and be made to feel the only word that can be heard is "YES ....$"   Would they like to be hung up on? I don't think so.   How would they like their doctors office to treat them with no respect as if they are just a dollar sign? Again I don't think so.

I know all to well how much Hospice and other Cancer organizations help people, You see....My grand father died from prostate cancer, my uncle also died with prostate cancer, my aunt died from lung cancer, I have 2 aunts who have fought and won with ovarian/cervical cancer and that is just in my family.  My Boss died from brain cancer, I have a good friend who has non-operable breast cancer, and my pastor is fighting throat cancer.   So you see I do UNDERSTAND how important "things" are for cancer patients.

Maybe you should rethink your phone soliciting tactics and maybe more people COULD get the help they need. People should be asked and be able to give from their heart and not pressured. And your representatives might just hear some amazing stories and have their lives blessed IF they would listen and be caring.  Because that's what a lot of cancer patients need is someone "just" to listen to them.

I hope you have a blessed day, and that your organization does good.

    Cindy G.

    Lincoln, CA

    Then I recieved this:

    Cyndi,

Thank you very much for taking the time to contact us.  I’m incredibly embarrassed by the lack of tact and professionalism shown by the “representative” who contacted you.  They obviously need to be monitored closely and taken aside for additional training.

If you would be so patient with us as to provide your phone number, we can have one of our managers look into doing this.  Your name and number are completely confidential and will remain unknown to both the caller and the floor manager.

As an additional note of interest, we are at the very beginning of implementing a huge overhaul in our caller recruitment process and adding 60 hours of additional training for those we do hire to teach them professional “people skills”.  We hope to be able to completely avoid this type of treatment of any potential supporter, such as yourself, ever again.

Again, I apologize for the behavior you received and will do all I can to have the matter corrected to your complete satisfaction.

    Kindest regards,

    James T. Reynolds, II

    Tired of the Calls
CFA calls every night.  I do not answer the phone anymore.  Made a donation back in 2006 because I thought they were an organization helping cancer patients.  They called a few months after that donation, asking for more support.  So, I did some research and did not like what I found.  The last time they called, I answered the phone.  I told them that I am no longer donating to their organization and have decided to support Susan G. Komen.  I was told I would be taken off the call list, but apparently I have not.

    Telemarketing charities are bogus
Thanks to Do-not-call loopholes, charities are exempt as are for-profit telemarketers with contracts with them. Dont fall for this scam. The charity gets 15 percent or less of your donation. Dont let these [***] harass you into giving them most of your money when you think it is going to charity. Use the TCPA law, 47 USC 227, to request that you be placed on their Internal do-not-call list and demand a written copy of their do-not-call policy. Send it in writing with certified proof. If they call again or dont send their written policy then sue them. Also no one can call your cell without an established business relationship. If you gave to the charity before they can argue you have a prior relationship...but do you have a prior relationship with the telemarketer trying to get money from you? I think not but that is a legal issue for the courts. The more people who get involved and sue these companies the faster they will go away. Doing nothing or complaining to the govt will accomplish nothing.

this is a real charity. These are not telemarketers but regular people who are hired by the charity, not contracted professionals.  Word to the wise, we all hate calls asking for money.  To get some real results, realize these are real people doing their job.  They have the ability to call you at unflattering times if you are rude to them, just a fact.  Let them state their charity full name before u hang up on them and try to be polite as u can if u speak with them.  The do not call list does not apply to them no matter what state or circumstance.  Checked into it, over 30% goes to help patients, no more no less, hope this helps

in response to the above writer, I have done this work before as a hired worker, not part of a professional marketing company though.  If u tell them that you will hold while they place u on thier do not call list, they will do so.  When people say place me on your do not call list and then rudely hang up, your number/name goes right back into the pot to get called again and their is nothing a  rep can do about it cause it's like a needle in a hay stack to find u again.  This information works if u use it.

Called at 2:45pm in California. I am on the Do Not Call list but regularly get calls from these people, along with others from fake credit card companies and scammers trying to get my details pretending to sell me extended car warranties.

This number calls all the time, usually asking specifically for my husband or just hanging up when answered.  Today they asked for me and I said to remove me from their call list.  The caller (Silvia) said I needed to hold while she got my number manually from her computer.  Giving her about 20 seconds, I said "are you done?".  She actually said no, this type of request takes time!!!!!  Its sooooo manual.  I asked if she had something to write with and paper she said..that's what I am doing...I said to her you better not call this number again and you have had plenty of time to "manually" figure this out and hung up...now I am reporting AGAIN!!!
