- STOP CALLING ME!Got a call with dead air. Waited a full 10 seconds, because if it is a person, they will either say something, or make some kind of noise. Dead air usually means a robot waiting for someone to say "Hello". I always say "Yes" to these things. I repeated myself 3 times and it hung up. I called the # back & got a lengthy advertisement for their "Service", then a prompt to leave a message. I left one telling them NEVER to call me again, and not to sell or share my number with ANYONE.
I tried calling back again, trying various numbers for extensions, an operator, anything. It's set up to hang up on you for an invalid input, there is NO operator & no extensions I tried worked.
They clearly do not want anyone to call them back.
I'm sure they erase all messages without listening so they can claim no
one is on their no call list.
They called a few months ago & I seem to remember telling them never to call then as well.
I'm sick of all the junk calls I get.
Filed another complaint on the do not call website, for all the good that
won't do.
Their website at http://www.cfoa.org/email.htm lists an office number
of 1-800-578-5284. I called it & got a machine saying they were closed.- Caller: Cancer Fund of America SCAM

If they do good, that's one thing. But i have hears of Telemarketing and Customer Service, as well as SUCCESSFUL Retail Management experience. Their people are useless, rude, and completely without intelligence.
They need better practices and that includes how they market and who they hire if the can't follow good practices.- Caller: They never get that far/wrong names
- JoeThese guys call several times a day, never leave a message. They've called me 15 times in the past week (I have one of those phones that can keep track.) Cancer Fund of America. Yep, I sent them them money before I did a little research on them. Since there does not seem to be any way to be rid of them, I thought that sharing this information was the least I could do........
from "MSN Money" article....
"Its easy to get confused by sound-alike names. For years, I thought Save the Children was the sponsorship charity that flunked watchdog standards, when, in reality, its Feed the Children that ran afoul of the AIP. You wouldnt want to confuse the Cancer Fund of America, which recently settled a fraud lawsuit with the state of Vermont, and the Cancer Research Institute, which gets high marks from charity monitors"

Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs Settles with Cancer Fund of America, Inc.
Thursday, April 12, 2007 Contact: Bill Cloud
Joe Doyle, Administrator of the Governor’s Office of Consumer Affairs, announced today that Georgia has entered into a settlement with Cancer Fund of America, Inc. (CFA) over allegations that the charitable organization misrepresented its services and disseminated deceptive and misleading solicitations to Georgia consumers.
Cancer Fund of America purports to raise money to aid cancer patients directly, unlike other cancer charities, whose funds are used to further cancer research. This is the second time that the Governor’s Office of Consumer Affairs has investigated CFA concerning alleged misrepresentations. This latest investigation revealed that CFA’s direct mail solicitations contained false and misleading claims, including assertions that it provided cancer patients with transportation to chemotherapy treatments and supplied medication to patients. Other allegations against CFA are that it misrepresented the number of cancer patients for whom it provided services and made false statements concerning how much of its proceeds went towards fundraising efforts.
As part of the settlement, CFA has agreed to eliminate any false or misleading statements from its web site and from future direct mail solicitations. In addition, CFA is required to pay $50,000 for the benefit of the Georgia Cancer Coalition, an independent non-profit organization dedicated to cancer prevention, research and treatment in Georgia. The money will be used expressly to benefit cancer patients.

From Cleveland.com
In 2006, according to its filings with the state, Cancer Fund of America spent a little over $20 million: A quarter of that - $5 million - went to its core program, while $15 million went to fund-raising, salaries and other expenses.
That's not a ratio that charity watchdogs like to see.
The nonprofit has had a number of run-ins over the years with state attorneys general. In 1998, it finished paying off a $137,500 settlement with the state of Pennsylvania, whose attorney general accused it of concealing from donors the amount of money that went to fundraising.
In 2001, it settled with the state of Vermont, which said the charity's telemarketers misled donors by telling them Cancer Fund of America provided "urgent pain medication" to critically ill cancer victims when it provided only over-the-counter medicine like Ibuprofen.
In 2005, the nonprofit settled charges by the Massachusetts attorney general that its telemarketers made false and misleading statements to donors. Cancer Fund agreed to pay $75,000 to two charities in that case.
Earlier this year, Cancer Fund of America agreed to pay $50,000 after the Georgia Office of Consumer Affairs accused it of sending mailers that falsely claimed the Cancer Fund provided cancer patients with transportation to their chemotherapy treatments. The nonprofit also agreed to remove misleading statements from its Web site and direct mail solicitations.
It has a one-star rating, out of a possible four, with Charity Navigator (since updated to "zero" stars, indicative of an overall performance "far below industry standards". Cancer Fund of America Support Services, run by the same bunch, also received zero stars.)

When call was connected to live operator and I answered they hung up with no communication - AnnoyedCalled and started to leave message and then hung up when answering machine picked up. According to a very reliable website, http://www.charitynavigator.org/, they have one of the worst expense vs. program costs for a so called "non-profit of this type. For every $2 they spend on fundraising, they use $1 for programming:

- MargoTelemarketer called me on 2/11/09 at approximately 2:40 p.m. California time. I mentioned to her that I have asked to have me removed when she interrupted me to say, "no maam, that was not us, we haven't contacted you since 2006, so don't start cussing at me!" I told her she had no right to talk to me like that as she was calling me unsolicitied. At that point our conversation was ended by me.

- NinaCall repeatedly even after I informed them they have a wrong number. When I got nasty about reporting them, they stopped calling for two months but just started their incessant pestering all over again. This evening I decided to freak out the caller in the hopes that would finally end their harassment. I saw the number pop up, the same woman's voice asked for this person, and I screamed loudly into the phone like I was being attacked, dropped the phone and left it dangling there for about ten minutes. When I came back to hang it up, line was dead.
That's going to be my new approach with all these intrusive creeps. That'll learn 'em.- Caller: Bogus "Cancer" Scam Outfit

- Ben| 1 replyWhile I'm well aware that charity VIPs often make big bucks, a check of Cancer Fund of America indicates that Pres. James Reynolds, Sr. had a salary of $186,453 in 2007 and Vice-Pres. James Reynolds, Jr. pulled down $114,920. Not bad family income considering how questionable their efficiency is in using funds. I wonder if they are as generous as they expect their telemarketer targets to be.
