They may be a reputable business but they just called my unpubbed new number and that usually means they're guilty of entering a block of numbers to call and block calls should be illegal. They are aggravating. Plus they do not allow their names to come up on the Caller ID. Doesn't that mean they want to fool people into answering their phones so they can get their spiels in before you hang up. Shame on them. They put themselves in the same category as all the other scammers and spammers who drive us all nuts with their persistent ringing of our phones until we can have no peace in our own homes for it.

I didn't answer. I won't answer. But they won't give up until a law is made and enforced against block calling.

Jim and James, you say?  According to "Charity Navigator", Jim and James are very well compensated - a nice little family business, to the tune of over $350,000:

    Leadership      (FYE 12/2007)
    Name                Title           Compensation
    James Reynolds Sr.  President       $186,453
James Reynolds Jr.  Vice President  $114,920
    Joshua Loveless     Fundraiser      $79,120
    Michael Reynolds    Hospice Center  $55,810

Don't believe any BS about these people doing good, there are real charities out there that help a lot of people.  What these people do is vile, and people like ZEKE are in their employ.  check out this link...

    http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=content.view&cpid=674

Here is an quote, "According to their most recently filed Forms 990, both the Cancer Fund of America Support Services and the Children's Cancer Fund of America spent at least 85% of their budgets on fundraising and just 11% on programs and services."

This is information that THEY reported.  11 cents per dollar goes to help people the rest is pocketed by the greedy [***] who run this organization.

Why not file a complaint?  I filed one for abandoned calls, as every time I pick up the phone, there is nobody there.

They have been calling me non stop - I was finally suckered into actually answering the phone to see who this was.  When I heard their spiel I asked nicely to be removed from their list - the man on the phone got real pissy with me and would not acknowledge my request - very high pressure and very rude!  Don't care if they are doing good things or not - because of this call I will never, ever, donate to that group!  Tried to call the number back to complain but there was not way to get past the pre-recorded massage to contact a real live person - very fishy!!!!

Cancer Fund of America uses a major portion of its collections for "administrative costs" (salaries office space, marketing expenses, etc.) but does provide some direct assistance and services to cancer patients.  As a patient, in 2007 I and other cancer patients in the radiology waiting area of a major MD caner treatment hospital received a good quality, stuffed plush animal as a gift.  While not personally thrilled, many of the other patients, mostly middle-aged and older ladies, expressed GREAT appreciation for this gesture.  IMHO, they were genuinely cheered by it.  I gave mine to a lady who arrived in the waiting are well after the "gift cart" had departed. It made us both feel good.  My personal suspicions are that trustee-employee salaries  are major portion of this tax-exempt fund's expenses.  I suspect the law permits it to identify itself as a non-profit.

Cancer Fund of America Support Services
& Children's Cancer Fund of America
Both of these organizations are affiliated with the 0-star Cancer Fund of America. All three are run by one family-
    James Reynolds Sr.,
James Reynolds Jr. (son of James Reynolds Sr.),
Joshua Loveless (son-in-law to James Reynolds Sr.),
Claudette Perkins (sister-in-law to James Reynolds Sr. and sister to Rose Perkins) and
Michael Reynolds (son of James Reynolds Sr.). According to their most recently filed Forms 990, both the Cancer Fund of America Support Services and the Children's Cancer Fund of America spent at least 85% of their budgets on fundraising and just 11% on programs and services.

While I am sure the stuffed animals might have been a nice gesture, it didn't help cure cancer, did it?

These non-profits ought to be policed and the monies collected be 85% for the charity and 15% for the people that OWN it.

I have asked these folks to remove my name. They stop calling and then start up again after about 3-4 months.  This is getting tiring.

Here is a link to the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Report.

Note, BBB has not received a response From Cancer Fund of America (Nashville, TN).  This organization has a different website (http://www.cfoa.org/home.htm) from the Cancer Fund Support Services (Dearborn, MI) site indicated in as previous entry (http://www.cfasupportservices.org/home.htm).

Caller ID listed TollFree Number and the 888-276-2971.  My son answered and I had forgotten to tell him that I was no longer answering such calls.  I have recently contacted the FCC and the FTC (1-888-225-5322) and reported several of the 35+ numbers I have collected in the last 3 months.

Maybe there is hope for a true DNC list that would permit you to allow only calls from people who have been given permission to call.  I tell each caller--when I do answer--that I no longer give to charities, answer survey questions, or am interested in political calls due to the questionable callers.  Legitimate organizations will remove your number and others will give up eventually.

According to the FTC, one of the problems is that scam artists are not afraid of being caught and/or fined.  They just get another set of numbers to call from.  Rudeness must be a quality of telecallers.

Repeated phone calls from (888) 276-2971 and will not leave message.  Apparently a questionable charity (see Better Business Bureau report) or a scam organization.

These people have called at least three times this week. The first time they asked for a family member who was not home. When I asked who was calling and if I could take a message they refused to identify themselves. They also refused to put my number on a do not call list.

I've filed a complaint with the National Do Not Call List. I urge everyone to do likewise.

They sound like scumbags. The Better Business Bureau reports:

Despite written BBB Wise Giving Alliance requests in the past year, this organization either has not responded to Alliance requests for information or has declined to be evaluated in relation to the Alliance’s Standards for Charity Accountability. While participation in the Alliance’s charity review efforts is voluntary, the Alliance believes that failure to participate may demonstrate a lack of commitment to transparency. Without the requested information, the Alliance cannot determine if this charity adheres to the Standards for Charity Accountability. A charity's willing disclosure of information beyond that typically included in its financial statements and government filings is, in the Alliance's view, an expression of openness that strengthens public trust in the charitable sector.

If they won't let them see the financial, SCREW EM!!!
