- TammyI got the same message several times over the past week. Funny thing is this also happened to me last December, and they declined to provide any info, etc. I filed a complaint with the Colorado Attorney General's office on that scam, and will be filing another shortly for this one. Just be careful. Be sure if you do get through to ask for the license number they operate under in your state. They cannot perform collections (even if it were a legitimate debt) without being licensed by the state. Let them know if you will be contacting your attorney general about them. That will stop the calls.

- ChrisJust got the EXACT same message folks! No need to panic. First, it's a total scam. Second, they cannot issue a summons to have you arrested for debt. That is against the law. I like the comment on here talking about a Bank 1 debt from 1994....hahaha! It's 2014! I know here in Texas, the statute on limitations is 5 years. Don't fall for the scam folks!

- tmI called my bank and put a fraud alert on my account. They suggested thati put a fraud alert wih eqifax. Their number is 18005256285. These people left a message and said they had my file attached with my social security number.they don't give up. Also file a complaint with your attorneygenerals office.
- distressed replies to Daniyes, this is a hoax, I am pretty sure. we have had many calls like this and called the FBI. they will be glad to assist you if you want to fill a complaint. you can go to your attorney general website as well.
- IdahoGirl replies to JosephSame thing happened to me. It's unsettling! Very belligerent and said they'd have the Sheriff's office serve me. Good luck! My husband works there and they don't do that! Glad there is this website to inform us, because they are aggressive!
- IdahoGirl replies to Nichole| 1 replyVery same name & scenario happened to me! My husband works for the Sheriff's office and I told her they wouldn't do what she just tried to scare me with. She said the same thing to me when she hung up on me! Block the number!
- AmyJust got a call saying there was a complaint filed with my SS#. Call came from 575-449-8141 and said to press 8 to speak to a representative. Pressed 8, got hung up on. Message also said I could call 888-283-5647 to discuss my complaint. This is a total scam. Do not give them any information. Won't be long until they use another spoof # and start the same thing all over again!

- LMAOReport any and all calls. I filed a report with the FBI already. These people say they are from Standard Mediations trying to get a statement because there was a complaint filed against me by the IRS they call from different numbers. 702-757-2052 was the last one they called from. The rep that answers is using Jackie London as a name. She is very rude and ghetto. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she hung up on me many times. They also use 1888-283-5647.
- Caller: Standard Mediations
- Ann| 4 repliesI have received the same phone call for the 3 weeks now. They told me the first week that if I didn't pay that my license will be suspended for a payday loan from a company that is 3 hours away I said I live close enough to all of they why would I go to another city. So acted like I need time for that day and call the police and they said no you don't have a warrant and to not answer any of their calls. They said they would not be able to suspend my license they don't have the authority. They use a third party to collect the money they said you can pay by credit card but they would rather you go to CVS or Wal-mart and make a money gram payment after I heard that I totally ignored them. Now they are calling from another number. It's like if it doesn't work on the first number they use they move to another one well now I just ignore them all. PLEASE BEWARE THIS IS A SCAM.....
- Call type: Prank
- Mad replies to Ann| 3 repliesI have been getting calls from a 415 area code number to call 888-283-5647. How they got my cell phone number, I don't know. I called the number . It rang nine times and then an answering machine came on. These people say they have a case and my SSN number. I am sure the debt is at least 7 years old. Id sure like to get the name of these people and their address so I can turn them into the state attorney generals office. Seems like they are breaking all collection laws- yes they will take money from you so they are collectors of sorts. Does anyone have the name of the place and address?

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010 FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691
The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers. - DCGOT SAME MESSAGE AS REST, Called and left an auto message saying I had a complaint filed against me. They stated they had my social security number and left a case number. If I wanted to know the nature of the complaint I had to dial 8, or call them back. Only they used a previous married name and not even current last name and same as previous post i had similar calls in july and august from another number stating legal case against me. These companies need to be stopped. It is someone just trying to scam you out of money!!!!!

- Susan| 1 replyI got this call today and it freaked me out due to my debit card having been hacked earlier in the week by someone over 800 miles from where I live. With me I am not use to getting these kinds of calls so when they called and told me I owed 1200 for payday loan from 2007 I was confused, then he proceeded to tell me that the reason they were after me is because "someone" was paying the "debt" up until 2012--I proceeded to ask if it was being paid for then who was making the payments and could I get a ledger of this. I was told I cant give you that information you will have to ask the judge. I was told if I paid today they would drop the courts if I said no all he had to do was push one button an the papers would be filed and they would freeze my bank account, suspend my license ect ect. Needless to say I flat out said well I am sorry your not getting money from me I am broke file the papers-He then proceeded to tell me you mean you cant pay nothing I see you have xxx.00 in your bank account right now gave me the exact dollar an cents amount. Needless to say I freaked out an took ALL my money out of my account until we can figure out how he knew the amount. After reading this I do feel like I freaked for nothing however when someone tells you exactly whats in your account there is reason to be worried. I hope they catch these crooks
- Tamianth replies to SusanOne important thing to remember if these losers have any of your personal information such as your social security number, date of birth or drivers license make sure you register with identity protection notify the credit agencies as well as your banks!!

Don't know where they are located. Keep wondering if they might be Indian debt scammers.
- Danny| 2 repliesMy mother was sick for days she is over 60 with health conditions and these [***] from 888-283-5647 called her number with my information, my correct SSN and other info about me told her I would be jailed and beaten in jail if I don't pay a past due loan with Americash loans and opsloan.com. The US Government wont due anything about this people. They don't care! Its time the Banks shut payday loans out of business, close all payday, installment loans, title loans out of business. If you want to deal with these types of personal issues go to your credit union or bank. Until these business stay open more and more Americans who are not smart will be scammed out of their life savings.
- Resident47 replies to DaniThat's debt collection, the bogus kind, and not "telemarketing". Only sales calls are covered by the DNCR, which makes your complaint misdirected. The CFPB, FTC, and attorneys general are some of the proper complaint channels.
Neither of the described calls reflect how debt is collected legally in the US. Those false threats are pretty common among thugs chasing phantom debt. - Resident47 replies to MsKittierrrm ... It's been illegal for 36 years and the FTC has already busted a few similar crooks.
FTC alert: "Fake Debt Collectors"
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors - Resident47 replies to CWG40The phrases and tactics used by the call center drones certainly smack of South Asian thugs.
