- D. Shks replies to nickHi. I just tryed to add money to a number 888-294-6804 that I was given to call for pre paid phone cards with verizon. In doing so. 2 x after you press amount, it says I am sorry failed, however, I called my bank, and it did not fail, these type run a 1.00 first to see if card is ligit, then take out after what ever they want. The best way to avoid this is cancel your card right then with the bank and have them send you a new one. This way from that point on before they can take out It is stopped. The company unknown which says it is a verizon system for adding minutes will not be able to...This is better than waiting and having a lot more taken out. Beware. Hope this helps.......
- joanno call but repeated charges to my credit card.....going back to January! Also have used Amazon. Contacted credit card company and will be filing for fraud.
- S Godin replies to ReallyANGRYI'm having the same problem. There are 44 charges on my checking account from Verizon, all in one day! I don't have, nor have I ever had, Verizon services. And I've never put minutes on anyone's card, ever. SCAM, SCAM, SCAM!!!!!
- BI live in Texas and they just spent 650 dollars on my account. This is CRAZY! I see posts on here from years ago......why do this many people have to become victims before something can be done. Are the crooks are smarter than the FBI? As of now.....I guess so...and my card was never stolen. They must have gotten the card number somehow.
- Angry replies to ReallyANGRY| 1 replyI do not have verizon and I was just taken for almost 1100.00 from someone using the # 888-294-6804 .VZWRLSS prepaid out of CA, and I am in Houston, TX These funds were taken directly from my account and I too am obtaining a lawyer and filing a police report with both the FBI and my local police dept. I find it absurd that banking institutions these days even allow such charges to go through, obviously knowing that fraud is being committed. If anyone else has had this happen to them pls let us know so we can all come together and stop this from happening to anyone else.
- Charlie| 1 replyI never received any phone call, but I just noticed a fraudulent charge on my credit card today with VZWRLSS as the description. I do have Verizon Wireless as my cell phone carrier and am a faithful customer for many years, but never charged anything to them during this time period so naturally I was very confused. At first I thought it was an ex-girlfriend or someone stole my credit card number, but then I found this website.
I spoke with Verizon Wireless and my credit card company and they are currently investigating this, but they both thought these charges were very strange. Even stranger, neither Verizon or my credit card company could give me any details about these charges. I did some research, and I can say with the utmost confidence that this is a scam and has absolutely nothing to do with Verizon Wireless.
Somehow I didn't notice it on my last billing statement, but on May 24 I was charged $301.00 to "VZWRLSS-IVR VN" from Folsom, CA. Today I got a new billing statement and on June 26 I was charged $256.00 to "VZWRLSS*WALCCRVN".
Even though my credit card company and Verizon are investigating this, I'm being issued a new credit card with a new number, and those charges are going to be refunded, I still didn't have peace of mind since I wanted to know who did this and how it happened. I looked through some old credit card statements because I know I had used my card for Verizon purchases before and that was when I found further evidence this is a scam. Verizon Wireless uses the abbreviation "VERIZON WRLS" on billing statements, not "VZWRLSS". If you don't believe me, type "VZWRLSS" into a search engine.. All you will find are websites like this with complaints of fraudulent charges. If that abbreviation were in fact Verizon, their official website would be at the top of the search engine's results.
This would simply be an example of cyber crime or some type of fraud/scam to steal people's money. Judging by all of the documentation on this website and elsewhere, I would say it is a widespread scam by professionals who steal credit card numbers and make charges to a fake company. It's sad, but do some research and you will see this is not uncommon. Scammers make fake companies and websites named something extremely close to a real company and make off with tons of money in the process. Just look at it this way.. How many of us on here saw "VZWRLSS" on our billing statements and immediately assumed it was Verizon Wireless? It's genius, really; evil genius.
I feel sorry that Verizon Wireless is getting their great name slandered by criminals who made a scam with a purposely similar abbreviation. I really hope that the word of this gets out so everyone is aware of it, including the credit card companies and Verizon. It seems as if customer service doesn't know anything about this, only their security/fraud departments. I would recommend that anyone who has these fraudulent charges on their billing statements to dispute them so you can be refunded or credited immediately. And also make sure to let them know that this is a widespread scam so their security departments can keep a look out for this to prevent this happening to anyone in the future. Good luck to everyone in getting this resolved! - LauraOn 6/16/2010 I had an unauthorized charge of $21.20 from this # 888-294-6804 - called it and it's Verizon Wireless. I don't have a Verizon cell phone or Verizon anything. It was charged to my Bank of America Debit card. I have since cancelled my card and closed my BofA account. Unbelievable that this has been going on this long and neither Verizon nor BofA will put in security measures.
- MonicaOn 11 Aug 2010 I see a charge of $213.98, description VZWRLSS ETM. Immediately I think it is Verizon Wireless. I have AT&T, after reading some comments I am starting to believe it is a fake company. I called my credit card and they cancelled my card. I really hope they can catch those criminals. They will give me a credit but it still bothers me that they used my name to buy fraudulent charges.
- Randy in Little RockI have an unauthorized charge also with VZWRLSS*PREPAID OT (not ECARS). Has anyone else seen this "PREPAID" version? Also, ironically this unauthorized charge happened within 48 hours of using this debit card at an ATM. I wonder if somehow somebody has figured out a way to "capture" the card number and PIN of these debit cards (Mine is WALMART MONEYCARD) thru the ATM? Has anyone else had problem with this on a WALMART MONEYCARD?
- Randy in Little Rock Arkansas replies to CharlieWas this activity shortly after an ATM transaction? The reason I am asking is I have the same problem within 48 hours of an ATM transaction in New Mexico which wa a legit transaction. But I am beginning to think that somehow the data needed is being stolen through ATM usage.
- Randy from Little Rock replies to LaydogVerizon's FRAUD dept WIIL notify your bank the phone number the money was assigned to if in fact the funds were placed on a prepaid phone or something. I just spoke with VERIZON customer service regarding the same issue with my debit card. Verizon# (800) 256-4646

What a PAIN! Am seriously thinking of going to cash only for fast food purchases. Get your money out of your home ATM and refrain from using debit card for causal purchases.- Caller: VZWRLSS

- Al KatzI happened to be reviewing my cc statements for the year and noticed two charges from VZWRLSS-IVR VN FOLSOM CA. They totaled about $450. No one in my family has recollection of making such purchases or phone calls or anything that would entail such costs. I phoned my cc company and they are investigating and in the meantime have credited my account.

I called the bank as well as Verizon Wireless Prepaid. The bank is investigating and will know more tomorrow. We are customers of Verizon Wireless and they are also working with us and the bank. The police have been informed as well and a report filed.
I received NO call from the number what so ever.
