- Joshua replies to miranda| 14 repliesI just received the call as well from the number a guy named zach, he said i had a warrant out for my arrest in harris country and i freaked out. He then transferred me to the attorney over my case????? sounded like an old lady who smoked a lot. I was stupid and gave in to clear my name with any warrants. Little did i know i paid a different collection company for the same thing and got documentation stating it was paid along with payment receipts. My bill was being recycled and different collection agencies were buying it. My previous collector told me straight up to call my CC company and dispute the charge that it was a scam and that my account was paid in full. Why can't these people get real jobs?????
- ChrisI just went through the same thing as most of you. However, after giving my name and asking for the purpose of their call the operator yelled that I just answer the F$$$!^@ question. I then said I answered question and who are you to talk to me that F*@&!^@ way. He then hung up and now they will not answer.

- REMReceived a call at my home for my deceased son's girlfriend of several years ago stating they need to serve her papers. After looking up the number I concluded it is a scam. And since I have had not contact with the lady in question for at least 10 years I think that they might have a problem with any paperwork they supposedly have to serve.

- RobertI have been receiving calls for the past few days in regards to this scam. That's what it is, nothing more then a scam. If you try to call them out on it they get angry, yell at you, tell you they have the authority to do what they are doing, etc. Contrary to their belief, they do not. I have been in contact with the FTC and the CPBF in which they both have told me that what they are doing is a scam and illegal. DO NOT give these persons any information and DO NOT confirm your date of birth or your last four digits of your social security number. They will hang up after you refuse.

This company always makes up "check fraud" phrases in order to scare people into sending them money. If there is check fraud the bank notifies the writer of the check. Usually it's just an oversight and it is corrected by the bank. Only in cases of intentional bad check writing will the matter go to the police. Debt collectors cannot get warrants or make the police do anything. It's all a fraud. Check fraud is a crime and only public prosecutors can file charges. Debt collectors have no power of prosecution. - CWG40 replies to Nina| 1 replyIf you used a CC# or debit card, go to the bank and see if they can reverse the charges due to fraud.
Go to the police and make a complaint of fraud. Also contact your local attorney general.

Report them: https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection - CWG40 replies to carolineDebt is civil in nature. You can't be arrested for an ordinary civil debt. These people toss around legal terms such as "jail", "warrants " and the rest of it, but they are just trying to scare you. Only public prosecutors and police can charge anybody with a crime. Being in debt is not a crime.
Report them: https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection - GBI received the call from the Charles Dixon (Dickson?) guy about being served papers. So I called the 888-431-9131 number to see what this was about. The guy on the phone claimed I owed $1300 on a loan I took out in 2007 (I never took out a loan in 2007). I also asked about the amount and of course he chalked it up to interest. When I asked if I could receive a validation letter stating all this, he got angry and hung up. I called back and again requested written info on this so-called debt and he angrily said he would just put me down for refusal to pay. What???? How is asking for more information translated into "refusal to pay"? I told him I had a right to receive more information and he flat-out told me he didn't give "two s**ts" (actual quote) and yelled "See you in court!" before hanging up. This guy was a jerk.

- CWG40 replies to disgustedTotal scam. If you had committed check fraud, the bank would have notified you and if serious would have been turned over to police and a representative of the police deportment would have interviewed you. Only public prosecutors and police can file criminal charges. Debt collection is a civil mater and police are not involved. They always try to tell you that an ordinary civil debt has somehow been magically transformed into check fraud. Total scam. Don't fall for it.
They're just trying to scare you. Ignore them.

- B GoodSame here. Just received a call at work and at home and on my cell. These rats have called my 83 yr. old mother leaving a recorded message as well. I finally call the number back and got a live idiot. She wouldn't let me get a word in edgewise. She hung up on me and then I got a phone call from someone that stated he was a deputy with my local sheriff's dept. and was going to pursue the arrest. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? How can these terrible scammers get away with this?

- Nicole replies to Lisa CI have had this same problem off and on for a couple of years. Every time they call its a different company or a different person. They threaten to have me arrested and have threatened to have me served by the Sheriff. Problem with these threats are that they are ILLEGAL. IF you do owe a pay day loan it is a CIVIL matter not a CRIMINAL matter UNLESS they can show malicious intent to defraud the companies with NO INTENT to repay. If that were the case I am quite sure your real information would not have been used. What I have done is EVERYTIME they call me I file a complaint online with my State Attorney's Office, the Federal Trade Commissioner, BBB, and anyone else that can help. Either one or two things will eventually happen. Either they will stop harassing me, about something I paid YEARS ago, or they will have to answer to someone who has more power than me. Do not let them get to you they only want to bully you into giving in.
