Just got a call too. From EKOS web site (http://ekos.com/privacy/default.asp):

"Anyone who wants to opt out of receiving survey research calls from our company may do so by contacting us directly at optout@ekos.com. We will also respect opt-out requests from a third party, on behalf of individuals, if we are satisfied that the third party has the authority to act on their behalf."

These people have called every night this week around 8 pm on my work cell phone, which is unlisted. So annoying. I have yet to pick up so I expect they will keep calling. How did they get my number?

Got a call from this number at 8:38 pm. Fortunately, have a habit not to pick up calls from unknown numbers, didn't pick up and of course, no message. What will they get by doing this meaningless thing.

Thier damn machine has called my cell 3 times this week. Because they are not a telemarketer they are exempt. All we can do is to not answer.

    https://www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/cofi-fico-eng
(Calls from organizations conducting market research, surveys, or public opinion polls are also exempt from the National Do Not Call List Rules and are not required to keep an internal do not call list. These types of calls are not telemarketing calls because the caller is not asking you to purchase, lease or rent products or services.)

    Pull their plug!
I received 3 calls (so far) on my cell from this number. I did not answer any of the calls and do not have voice mail. I went online and checked my "Pay 'n Talk" account & it showed that I phoned myself on precisely the same dates and times as the 1 888 number called. The 1 888 number does not show up on my account statement. Has anyone checked their statement to see what is shown when the 1 888 number called if they answered?

I get a call from them every day at 5:50. I put their number into my contacts and downloaded a silent ring tone so whenever they call my phone just rings silently until they hang up.

    Pay Back
I got a call from these idiots but didn't answer it.  I right away called back, using *67 so they couldn't see my phone number.  I patiently waited while their recording babbled on in both English and French then left them my message.  I screamed at the top of my lungs!!  Someone is in for a real treat when they listen to my message.

This is a polling company that's been around for decades. Used to be called "Opinion Search". They are totally harmless and dial numbers randomly. Sometimes they get hired for important polls by Gallup but most often by companies for simple market research.
If you answer the call you'll be politely asked if you would like to take part in a survey, if you say yes you will be asked how you feel about certain issues or things. You get instructed to say strongly agree, somewhat agree, neutral, somewhat disagree, strongly disagree or don't know for each question.
They have absolutely no interest in you, they only want you to do an anonymous survey. All they want is answers to a poll.
If you ask not to be called again they will flag your number as DNC to their computer and will never call again. If you refuse to participate or if you do the poll, your number will not be flagged. But it's improbable you will get phoned again since they dial randomly for every job anyhow.

Totally harmless. The worst thing these guys will ever do to you is ask your opinion and take 5 - 15 minutes.

They don't know or care that Geer (above) is a delinquent debtor. Only deadbeats are paranoid about phonecalls. Opinion Search/Ekos has no way of knowing anything about that since they call at random.

If you don't want to take part in a survey, simply answer the call and ask to never be called again.

Pollers and telemarketers must comply with Do Not Call lists. Collection agencies, Bounty Hunters, Police, PI, Skip Tracers, Bailiffs, Repo-men and agents of the Court are immune to "Do Not Call".

Also received a call on my cell from this number.  First time on my cell!  I really think the telephone service providers like Bell, Rodgers, Telus, MTS, etc  should take some responsibilities in blocking these numbers if we ask them to do .... and without any cost to the customers.

I am assuming that only reasons the providers would object is because they are making $$$ on these unwanted calls as well as the customers are using up minutes on their cells.

CRTC should definitely get involved in this problem!
