- ididntdoit| 3 replieshave been getting msgs stating that "I was a person of interest". I called them today and a Mr. Williams told me I owed a debt to someone I've never heard of. When I said that I didn't owe this and had no idea what it was he hung up on me. They have since called 5 different people, 3 who I haven't talked to in 10 + years. Had someone call and say were my counsel and got the folllowing information
Cornerstone Resolution Group
247 Cayuga Box 10
Buffalo or Williamsville, NY 14425
Fax # 716-631-7614
They buy old accounts for pennies on the dollar. It doesn't matter if you owe it or not, they will try to scare it out of you.
Be very aware of what's going on with them...- Caller: Cornerstone Resolution Group

- JOHNI got a call from same number calling for a person that I do know. It was the same message that others have reported. I am not sure of my friends finances, but I know that I am debt free.
- Rachael| 1 replyI use to do collections myself, until i had learned how rude those type of people are.. I knew as soon as they said a complaint had been placed against my social that it was a collector.. Everything they are doing is illegal and i suggest you get an attorney and report them. they are stating that they are atty.and if any of you get the same thing ask them for their Bar #. The pull up your account then say they are going to transfer you to the legal department. Everything about what they are doing is illegal, the place can get sued, you can sue the individual collector, and you can sue the company that retained them (gave them your information for the debt). ******They state the name of their company is Cornerstone Resolution Group but i have not been able to find anything about them online..
- JedeyeCall saying I was a "person of interest" and that it could escalate without my knowledge. Caller ID was from a Cincinnati-based phone number (Sharonville). I never answer phone numbers I do not recognize anyways. Reporting to FTC and will call back after hours to leave them a message as well. Sounds like they opertae under a variety of names/areas.

- pattyjoReceived the same call, same variation today--"person of interest" and "decision will be made". As I have excellent credit I know this is baloney. It is a shame how these "collectors" prey on the naive.Lamet from Aug. 2009 gives great advice about these idiots and others that are out there. Federal Trade Commission and your State Attorney Generals Office are 2 good places. Also do not forget to get your free annual credit reports from the 3 major Credit Reporting Agencies.

- stopscamI received a computerized voicemail from this number, 1-888-762-5195, and mentioned a person that's not me. Telling me to contact them or actions would be taken without my input. Sounds like they are just trying to get people tricked into giving sensitve personal information.
- babe65My husband received a call at work on his cell phone from this number yesterday, with the same message as stated by others. Except when they said who they were looking for, he said it was "muffled", but didn't sound like anything close to his name or anyone he knew. They told him to call back at (713) 521-4385, ext. 1, which is a local number. He did call the (713) number and they answered "Channel 11 News" (one of our local news channels!!). And he told them that someone had called him on his cell phone and told him to call the number. They said it must have been a mis-dial or something because no-one had called him. Very strange. I told him not to call the (888) number because someone from that number had been calling the house about a month ago and left messages for "muffled name" and being suspicious, I had looked the number up on the internet and found this page with all the complaints. It's strange enough that they were calling the home number, but how in the heck did they get my husband's cell phone number??!!

- JJGot a message from this number 888-762-5195, stating the name of an individual that I knew was a person of interest. So, I called the number and spoke first with a young lady (who informed me that the company name was CRG, Inc.) who transferred me to Brian Mayer. Brian told me I owed a debt which was originally $876.00, but I needed to pay $1500.00 with no exceptions. When I told him I didn't have the money but, would be willing to make payment arrangements he transferred me to Donnell White, who in term, stated that I owed a debt of $1400.00 dollars (at that point a red flag was raised). I told Donnell, that I did not have $1400.00 dollars, so he asked for my checking account information and/or a debit/credit card. When I told him I had neither he transferred me to Frank Lewis, who stated that I should not have received a call from them and if I hadn't been served with a court summons, I would be served within 7 to 10 business days. He stated that they were affiliated with a National team of attorney's and I would be served at my place of employment. When I asked him if there was a supervisor over him that I could speak with he told me no. Then I informed him that I had an attorney, that would be getting in touch with them on my behalf, he stated he nor his staff could discuss the debt with me any further and due to this debt, I would be arrested and lose my job.

I pressed 7 to delete - DavisThis # also called for a "person of interest" who used to work for us. The guy took out a bunch of payday loans and never paid them back, I can only guess that's what it is for. We are also a collection agency, but their message when you call the # says they work with a group of national attorneys, which sounds like total garbage as collection attorneys themselves don't work at call centers, nor do they have [***] automated messages like that. The most I can tell you is to call the # back and tell them to remove your #. Like I told that guy just a minute ago, then wait and see if they do or not. If they don't file a complaint with the FTC, I think all you need is the phone #, then call your local DA's office and notify them as well. We're a legit collections agency and these are the type of people that give the whole industry a bad name, the majority of fraudulent agencies are in Buffalo, NY from what I understand, mainly having ties to organized crime of all things. Hope this helps anyone out.

- Davis replies to Wade S.The guy probably listed you as a reference on the contract he signed, probably for payday loans. Which is also probably is as old if not older than the last time you saw the guy. If they keep calling, tell them you're recording the call, documenting everything, notify them one last time you don't speak to the individual and if you receive anymore calls you're going to bring the holy fire upon them with the many violations of FDCPA rules.
- Davis replies to rn rThe thing most people don't realize, but in this case it does hold water... Statute of Limitations only applies to the time frame a creditor has to go legal on you. While there is no statute of limitations on collections, meaning they could call you for $100 they say you owe for eternity, they can't claim they will go legal on you after the SOL expires, which is usually 7 years, but check your local laws for that. Short of them calling you until you die, you could always get a fax # for them and claim you've got a receipt for the bill due, then just send them a cease and desist letter in place of the "receipt", copy the letter and document the date and time you faxed it, then call them back to make sure they got the letter, if they say they haven't go ahead and contact your local DA's office, AG's office & the FTC and notify them about their nonsense.
- NicoleMy step-dad ( has a way different lasy name) is getting phone calls from this company about me but the recording is saying my last name wrong. I am glad I stumbled across this web site. I think I got scammed a year and a half ago from one company ( that sounded legit) and had all the right info about a past debt. I payed it off but every time I called for the letter of payment I never got it. Ordering my credit report now and taking care of everything directly with the companies themselves, if they tell me they sold it I will get the new company from the old. I know I screwed up in the past but it sucks not knowing what is real and what isn't. The things people do these days is sick.

- StewartThe sad part is, people actually fall for this. I just got a call from a family member...in a different state...of which I've never lived...and they received a call from this number for me. The same "important decision" b.s. was spewed. Has anyone ever called and harassed them back? I was thinking about blocking my number and calling them just for fun, let them see what it's like to have someone throw things in their face that make no sense LOL
