Got two calls, according to phone ID, and the woman asked for me by name and left the message "this call is not sales pitch or (something else)" That was on 8/13. Since then, no calls. From what I have seen on these postings and other web sites, the caller is a scam.

Has called me 4 times in past 3 days. I finally answered and all I got was "Hello, we are trying to reach ---------------, if this is -----------, please press 1, if this is not ----------, please press 2. "  I pressed 2 and then "if this is the correct number for -----------, and you need time to hand them the phone, please press 1, if this is not the right number for --------------, please press 2 and stay on the line to update your information."
    VERY ANNOYING.

Got a call, the call was breaking up so I hung up.  I called back and they asked for my SSN,  I told them I will not talk to them until I find out more about them,  I asked the company's name, the told me they didn't have to get me that until the get my information.  I told them by law you are a business, You are required to give me that information.  She informed me that federal law states that they don't have to give me the information.  I then told her I know that isn't true, and told her this is a scam and you are a scammer.  She hung up.

I just received a call from this number asking if I could get a message to a neighbor in my apt building. The callers' name was karen and she gave me another # to call 800-927-7667  x7018. It really concerned me that she knew who MY neighbor was and that she would prevail upon me to deliver a message to someone else. She avoided my questions about the nature of her call.

they are dbt collectors who collect on bad dbt or dbt that has already been paid off.
they use tools like TLO acurant and other sites. they put in your ssn or family or friends they pull up
every piece of info on you and on these sites are all your neighbors, friends, relatives and they call every number on the list to get ahold of someone to pass along the message and meet their daily call count. Some of the debt is legit and is owed other debt is either paid off and resold to re collect on.
I use to work for a collection agency but for pay day loans. I love when I get calls from collections now. I mess around with them and basically get them to hang up and then they don't ever call me again.

I called back and they said they were Performant, They knew my name and said I had an account with them. Woman on line asked for my DOB and SSN.  I said that I would not give that information until I knew who I was talking to.  She said that I was on a recorded call and it was Performant.  I said I had no idea what that was, so I asked if it was a collection agency, she said no, I asked if she was a telemarketer, she said no, asked if she was doing a political survey, she said no.  I then stated that I would not give any information until I knew who I was taking to.  I said to remove my number and do not call and she said it wasn't a call list.  Sounds fishy!

***A company must be licensed in their state as well as the one they are trying to collect in if two different states are involved.

    Some Tips:
    *Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time, date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.
