- ConcernedCaller-GMI Enterprises,
This is a scam! Thank goodness for this website! They almost got me. Thank you to all of you and the person who built this site. You may be saving innocent people thousands of dollars everyday! It dawned on me to call them and do some investigating and the operator actually told me she was just an answering service for GMI! What government agency has a person who doesn't speak good english answer calls regarding a legitimate business??? If you can recommend a legit site to earn extra bucks please send it to tcb0330@yahoo.com- Caller: GMI
- JackThe company never identified themselves. The recording described a work-at-home opportunity processing home mortgage refunds for a government program. Supposedly they can take your name, address and CREDIT/DEBIT CARD INFO over the phone -- there's a "refundable" one-time fee of $69 for the package of information that includes everything you need to get started -- and once you get the package in the mail "you can start the same day" and earn $400-800 for every refund you process.
I could tell it was a scam (here are the giveaways: one, legitimate work-at-home jobs don't charge a start-up fee; two, there was no information given as to what agency supposedly runs this mortgage-refund program or even the name of the program, just the vague reference to "government"; three, if there really were some government mortgage-refund program, people eligible for it wouldn't be waiting around for some third-party contractor to call them and get all their personal info including banking information in order to process things, the homeowners would fill out the forms themselves; four, the government would never hire anyone, even through a third-party company, to handle people's private information without doing basic background checks to see whether the people doing the processing had prior fraud/identity theft convictions, were eligible to work in the U.S., etc. -- and that's just off the top of my head!) so instead of giving the operator ANY personal information I said I was house-sitting for the person who lived here but was sure they would want to take advantage of the opportunity and asked if there was a number they could call once they got home. The number the operator gave me was 971-285-3130 (another giveaway: a legitimate business that can cold-call long-distance to find customers almost always has a toll-free number for customers to find them).
IF YOU GAVE THESE SCAMMERS YOUR CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD INFO, CALL YOUR BANK IMMEDIATELY AND TELL THEM YOU THINK YOU WERE THE VICTIM OF A "PHISHING" SCAM. They may be able to stop the $69 payment, and should also flag your account for unauthorized activity in case the scammers try to sneak additional charges on, or just sell your info to some other crooks. Your best option is for them to treat the card as stolen and re-issue a replacement card with a new number (or just a new expiration date and verification number) but you may have to wait until any legitimate transactions pending on the card go through before they can cancel it.
Now I'm going to go look for which federal agency to report these crooks to, especially since they're claiming to be government-authorized.- Call type: Telemarketer

They were asking me for $69.00 for a package to get started. phone is 971-285-3130. Operator #204 Gino. They said they are selling a list of names. This so sounds like a scam.

- AMANDAI got a call to work from home. The operator 199 or Latrelle told me he was a third-party affiliate for the government doing mortgage refunds to people from the government. I was told I could make $400.00-800.00 each refund. Then at the end of the week I would receive a check from the U.S. Treasury in the mail. If I wanted to quit just send the names back and they would refund my 69.00 for the orientation packet that I bought from them. I told him I was interested and asked the company name and also if they were backed by the Better Business Bureau. Then I heard a click and he had hung up.
