the recorded message spoke only in spanish when i picked up...I know a limited amount of spanish and it was saying some numbers and kept saying something about hours and that it was from a NY correctional facility but thats all i can figure out. Its annoying and i wish it would stop especially since last time it called at 9:30 at night. I've seen this number listed as collect calling number for prisons but I don't know any prisoners.

yeah im in michigan too! i was actually at a police station trying to bail my boyfriend out i thought it was him at first, but then i read this stuff, so it couldn't of been him and i was on the other line with the police station asking why the freakin' doors were locked so i couldn't answer.

yeah the number just called me and told me i needed some payment set up? i just hung up. the person who said the name said it so soft i was like uhhh.

972 is an area code in Texas. I got a collect call from this # but it was silent and no name was said. It's not a prison in Michigan or WA. I'm in WA and the area code here in 206, 253 or 426.

I just got a call from the same # and the only1 I know is in pasco county jail in washington but its the same thing when I call back as ever1 else its busy....

Have been receiving calls from this number for a couple days.

I got a call from the Oak Park (near Detroit, MI) jail ... several, in fact. All of my friends and even all but one of the "iffy's" are accounted for. If it's him, he's not 'blood', we're not close and the problem would be drugs. So, even if I had the money to bail him out, I probably wouldn't.

This is a phone service run under contract. The jails don't care how much it costs you, only how much it makes them (after all, from a phone that hasn't been mucked with, you can place a collect call simply by dialing "0" and telling the operator that you'd like to make a collect call ... which will be charged to the account you are dialing on a minute-by-minute basis -- no need to make an advance deposit.)

When I check voice mail, I get the start of a message that cuts off after the "1-800" part of the number. I got called at 3:39 pm yesterday, 4:38 pm and 5:59 pm (x2) today.

I think that it's a scam using a robot dialer to call every kind-hearted person in the country (most folks are) and give them just enough information to make them think that a friend has ended up in the pokey and is in need of help.

We need another 'Call Type' ... "Scam / Fraud"

NO IT IS NOT A SCAM. I have friends and a brother and a brother by soul and they're in Airway Heights washington.    It's Prison Telephone.  Just depends on which Connection they chose when calling out as to whether or not it comes up with that 972 number. My brother is in the SAME EXACT PRISON, yet when HE calls it is a 509 area code and a normal Spokane telephone number........ NO NEED TO FRET.
