I have found this( 9999999999) on my husband's cell phone  and it was listed as Incoming and the calls lasted more than 15 minutes.  Have you heard of SKYPE, I wonder if it is that and the caller uses this so you cannot identify them????

Our carrier is Verizon and when I asked them, they replied they did not know.

When I go onto verizon website then google a phone number from my cell phone it shows me a link to a file.  When I choose the option to click cache the file opens up to show my deleted files.  How can this be.  One of the numbers listed in my online directory is 999-999-9999.

I think this is funny, nobody is going to answer a call from a number like that.  There are a lot of scammers out there so they get nothing from our business.  Yeah, like they are legitimate...doubtful.

Not sure of the legality, but was finally able to trace the "999-999-9999" number back to Nuance Software (www.nuance.com). Its their sales dept - and I was getting these mysterious calls for the past 2-3 weeks. No messages, no one online. Finally got a message today and was able to ID them. They have some great products (PaperPort, OmniPage, Dragon Naturally Speaking, etc.) but I told them they just lost a sale using this tactic to conceal their phone number. I own some of their software, so I am probably considered someone with an "established relationship" and therefore legal

I've been getting some weird phone calls the last few weeks.  12-digit numbers.  573 area code.  They also call my home phone.  When they call my home phone it doesn't register in the call log for whatever reason, although I can see the number when they call.  I haven't picked up ever.  Once I was really curious though and I called back blocking my number.  All I got was a creepy sound that sounded like a broken answering machine.  Like remember tape players when you would rewind and press play at the same time and it would sound screechy, like that.  Anyway the numbers that I have logged on my cell are as follows, 573-204-966243, 573-112-291986.  The first one being more recent. BTW, I'm a verizon customer if that matters.  I've read online that a lot of verizon people seem to have similar complaints.

I have Verizon too and have found these are usually linked to monthly renewals link mobile email, ESPN MVP, and other Verizon services that have monthly charges if not on the Premium plan.  999-999-9999 listed as an INCOMING instead of the numbers on your bill is a spoofed number.

How do you know that this 999-999-9999 number was actually Verizon? I have just activated an new phone and number and I keep getting these calls and they are charging me precious minutes! (175 minutes in one week alone)!I have called Verizon and they told me that this was a computer generated call ans they do not know if they can block them even though it accepted the number to block.

Got the 999-999-9999 on daughter's cell phone at 3am in the morning with the following 0001357082 as the description. Computer generated, no doubt and used up one minute of air time. This is nuts, considering her phone is off at that time that call comes through.

I got a couple of calls from this number within the last week.   I picked up the second one and whoever it was hung up after about 5-10 seconds.   I read that this was a spoof of some urban legend, some movie where if you pick up the phone you die.
    Creepy!

Our office got a call from this number but of course it was screened out as a "nuisance call".  People have equipment where they can "make up" a number usually through an internet connection and make it show up on caller id anyway they want it to.  My recommendation is to sceen your calls and never answer any call that is suspicious or block it, this one stands out as trouble with a capital T.

Is the first time I get this call on my cell phone. It was at 10:05 am, din't pick up but they left a message. It said  the caller was Dr. Anthony Whim from Anthem Blue Cross reminding me to call my doctor for a check up. If I had any health questions to call the Net Call center at the number located on the back of my insurance car. Now I am insure with Anthem, but there is no Net call center phone number on the back. WTH is this doctor. I called my insurance and they never heard of this doctor either. I hope i dont get anymore of this calls and i am a verizon wireless user.

On Monday February 23, 2009 around 5:29 my boyfriend received a call from a certain person who did not identify himself was looking for myself. My boyfriend said for this person to call me back around 6 or 7 pm. Anyways my phone number is unlisted and I would appreciate this person not to call me back or I will seek further action to the police.

This number has been used by collections telemarketers as a ruse to get you to pick up

They are able to present whatever number they want, via a device or software bought or rented by the collection outfit for which they work

The law requires them to show SOMETHING

Before they get bored silly, they will use a phone number and a state name, for example

After the same company has had an account for awhile and they can see that the notes show that the intended recipient is not picking up, even, or the same person has called, themselves, and so they know this, from personal experience, they will begin to imput other information into the device or into the software

As I type, "MISSOURI," 816-428-4003, is coming up on caller ID, but, the next call could just as well be this 999 number, "unavailable," for # or company name, or anything else

Just pick up the callers you know

Fortunately, the collectors aren't likely to know which of those to ruse you with...and your friends do leave msg.'s, when there's any doubt
