    I received a call from 011 a few moments ago and at first I heard a recording of a young woman congratulating me for winning and then prompted me to press 1 on my phone. I was then connected to a man named"Michael" with a very heavy accent informing me I won a $500.00 Walmart Gift Card. During the course of his scripted pitch he stated the card could be used anywhere I wanted. He proceeded to tell me that he knew I used a debit card to purchase groceries (I responded with, even if I did why would that matter) and that I could use the card to receive 80% off (he never responded to my response he only repeated himself twice). The whole time he was talking I was holding an airhorn hoping he would ask me for my personal info. Of course he mentioned that there is a shipping and handling fee of $4.95 and was I going to use my Visa or Mastercard. HOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!

    I received a call from a "John" with a thick accent saying I won a $400.00 Walmart gift card, I was randomly selected out of a list of loyal customers. He said the card would be mailed to me by UPS but I would need to pay $1.95 for shipping. He then asked for my credit card info. He mentioned I was not going to be charged for the shipping now but he needed my cc # to verify it was me. I disconnected the call and he called back three times, leaving me aggressive voice mails. The number he called from is (999)910-0300.

    Yup.  Received a call today from someone with a 234 area code.  I answered because my phone number starts with a 234 so I figured it had to be a lcoal call.  YEAH RIGHT!  An automated machine came on stating that I have one alot of walmart gift cards and all I had to do was stay on the line and participate with a 3 minute survey.  They went on to say after that all I would have to do is pay a 2 dollar shipping and handling fee.  SCAMMMMM!  I told my brother about it and he immediately said his friend was just scammed by the same people.  Only he DID give them is crediti card number, and you can best believe they didn't just take 2 dollars out of his account.  They wiped it clean (even the cents).  Left with a zero balance.  Oh well, we live and learn.

    I just got a call for $100 Walmart Gift Card and all I had to pay for was shipping and handling...$2.95. I said I would pay for it when I got the card and they said O.K. no problem..I would just have to talk to the manager. The manager asked me how I would be paying and I said CASH...He said they couldn't accept cash and I told them to go ahead and keep the card for himself. He chuckled and I hung up the phone...haven't received any more calls in about an hour! ; )

    My father has been getting these calls at his home.... And just today I recieved a call from 302.394.9576 they have called several times claiming to be be from a company called US Protection. Said that because I shop with some of there marketing partners that I have won a 100.00 gift card. Stated that I don't have to pay anything just verify information. The orginal caller gave the name Kevin Jones and Employee # 92556 he verified my name and address. Verified Visa or Mastercard. Then asked my experation date" for verification that the card is not expired" (what does it matter if I already purchased from a marketing partner and won a gift card). Said that he was done with verification and needed to transfer me to his "package confirmation supervisor" that is when Keith Calvin(yeah right!) employee # 92544 got on the line repeated everything that the first guy stated and then said ' to verify that I am me that he needs my Customer Identification Number (which came to be my 16 digit CC number) When I questioned he explained that the first four validate my first name. the second four is my last name. the third four is my address and the last group is my zip code. and that the actual CC # is 19 digits (the 3 digit CVC #) and that he is not requesting that. When I asked to verify just the first or last group of number he would start his whole explanation all over again. I then asked for the Address of the company since they stated they were in Phoenix, AZ, he was not allowed to give... I asked for a manager that was able to give it then. Transfer to yet another thick accent named just Chris. Who gave the address of 1117 Handsler Lake, 85033 - can't be found by google or yahoo maps...Hmmm. Name, address w/ zip, CC #, and expiration date? and who knows the other info they have already? too much for comfort I would have gave the 1 group of my CC# but not buying that they don't know which partner I shopped at that made me elgible for this free gift card. Will be reporting as fraud. People work to hard for their Money, Name, and Credit for it to be abused by be sucked in to these scams. If it's a eral reward that I have ALREADY won.... Verify name and address and drop it in the mail... no other info required.

    Just so everyone knows:

    From: http://www.fivecentnickel.com/2010/02/26/maki ... it-card-number/

    Have you ever wondered what those numbers embossed on the front of your credit card mean? Commonly referred to as your “credit card number,” there is a lot more information packed into that number than meets the eye… If you have a credit or debit card, you might want to pull it out so you can follow along.

    For starters, the first digit in the number indicates what type of card you’re dealing with. This number is always a 3, 4, 5, or 6, and can be interpreted as follows:

    3 = Travel or entertainment card (e.g., Amex or Diner’s Club)
    4 = Visa Card
    5 = MasterCard
    6 = Discover Card

    Visa credit card numbers

    For Visa cards, the numbers are 16 digits long. Visa has used to have 13 digit numbers, as well, but those have been mostly (completely?) migrated over to the 16 digit format.

    When looking at the balance of the numbers, the 2nd through 6th digits are the bank number, and the 7th-15th numbers are your account number. The remaining digit is known as the “check digit,” which is used to help determine whether or not the overall number is legitimate.

    MasterCard credit card numbers

    For MasterCard cards, the number is also 16 digits long. The first digit is always a 5 and the second digit is always between 1-5. The 2nd-3rd, 2nd-4th, 2nd-5th, or 2nd-6th digits correspond to the bank number, and the remaining digits up through the 15th are the account number. As above, the 16th digit is the check digit.

    American Express card numbers

    For American Express cards, the number is always 15 digits long and it always starts with 34 or 37. The 3rd and 4th digits indicate the card type (business vs. personal) and the currency. The 5th-11th digits are the account number, the 12th-14th digits are the card number associated with the account, and the 15th digit is, once again, the check digit.

    Did you give them your credit card number, debit card number, or bank account number?  If so call your bank RIGHT NOW and close the account.

    If you didn't give them any of that information you don't have to do anything.  They can't scam you without your information.  They don't live near you because that would make it easier for law enforcement to find them.  They can't come to your house.

    They will call again.  Hang up on them.  Or blow an air horn in their ear.  Or insult them.

    I Just got a call about a $100.00 gift card from Walmart. The guy had a really thick accent. He said all I had to do was pay on Friday to activate my card. The charge was only going to be $2.95. I told him that if the card was free then I should have to pay nothing. He said it's only a small charge. I told him then it was a lose win situation and he should feel privileged that I am giving him my $100 gift card and that all he had to pay was $2.95 to activate it. I then proceeded to hang up on him. Really I hope people are not falling for this. Nothing is ever FREE people and if it sounds to good to be true then It always is.

    I agree with this. That is exactly what I told them. If  I "am" such a good customer and Walmart is rewarding me- a gift card of ONLY $100 is an insult! Why would I pay nearly $3 in SH for you to give me a gift. This is soooo crazy! Has got to be the biggest scam I've ever heard of! And why would I give you my credit card information?
