Microsoft: There is something wrong with your computer...
- Kristin| 1 replyI keep getting calls about every day from numbers like 123-456-7890 and 000-000-0000 saying there's something wrong with my computer. I tell them I know it's a scam and that it's been in the paper, but they keep pushing so I then tell them to [***] off because I'm not letting them access my computer, but they keep asking my why I think it's a scam. I mean I'm getting angry now they call all the time and it's annoying and always they same thing. I've even told them that I know microsoft of whoever they're claiming to be does not make house calls about your computer having a virus but they still insist on helping me. I either have to hang up or tell them my brother studies mechatronics and that usually gets them to hang up. Either way it's a scam so they can get total control of your computer and empty any accounts you have linked to that computer.
- R scammed replies to Annoyed| 8 repliesI fell for the logmein.com, got takin for $350.00. Since then I got rid of them, Got $70.00 of that money back. It was the 510-943-3040 number
- TaaI got the Asian fellow twice this week. I figured a scam, I asked for his name and number and told HIM I would call him back as didn't believe him and wanted to check him out! He said his name was John Wheeler at 403-456-3966. I have junk files in my harddrive he said. I told him I will just bring my computer to where I bought it and he said they won't know where to find it on the hard drive!!! I asked where he was from as if it was Microsoft it would have should up on my phone, not LONG DISTANCE, he said he as part of Microsoft and was a windows service provider. I spoke to my internet provider and he said SCAM and that the store I bought it could fix anything.
- passin thru replies to MrOzBarrySo he had the bad judgment to target a Linux Penguin, eh? Pretty funny. It would be a lot funnier if I didn't know so many folks who would fall for that. Fortunately I've got most of them to the point that they call me first.
Maybe I'll get lucky, I'd love to talk to this guy. I'll go all the way through the process with him, and when we get done, I'll be in touch with the Secret Service. We have a Windows machine where we initiate wire transfers, and trying to compromise it will get you all sorts of special attention.
Hiding behind a VOIP number or a throwaway cell phone isn't nearly as effective as you think it is Mr. Pretender. There is a simple way to tie a throwaway cell phone to a person, and crooks using them get caught all the time. VOIP numbers are very traceable for people with badges and subpoenas.
So, call me, Mr. Microsoft Pretender, I'm looking forward to it. If it isn't me, you will eventually make another big mistake - you've already made one.
Call me, just pick up the phone, and just call me.... you can do it.... - DanielJust got the same call from 'Peter' with an east indian accent he gave me a call back # of 281 317 1272 anyone in houston area call that number back track it to an address and ness them up :-)
- Kamikaze.ZombieI've had 2 calls in less than 24 hours. My husband answered both times. The first time I came home about 15 minutes into the call and my husband who assumed it was legitimate was doing as they asked. I then began asking him to ask them questions and they began to get rude and angry when the questions were asked and could not give any answers to what my computer was running, how they got my number, who they worked for, etc.. We then hung up on them about 40 minutes into the frustrating conversation. I then went to the canadian fraud website and saw what i had just experienced had gone to the bulletin. Today when they called we knew that it was a scam and my husband messed with them for nearly 40 minutes again before they threw in some rude comments and mentioned they may do some unthinkable things to our family and that they were from the taliban and that we would be murdered. Its one thing to scam (which is bad enough) but death threats was a little too much. I hope these people are stopped soon.
Here are the two phone numbers we have gotten calls from so far and the website that they sent us to in order to get us to punch in a code and allow them control of our computer. Also the 905 phone number I traced to India. there is actually a +91 area code for the 905 number.. It is not a Toronto phone number for those of you who believe it is.

LogMeIn123.com - OscarI just had the same call. It was funny, I kept asking him questions about viruses and software. He got pissed and gave me to the supervisor. He was just as asinine as the first guy and even dumber. He said I was over-whelming the server. I go " No I am not". he was getting frazzeld. He was from India, but not sure if he was actually in India. I was bored so I kept it up for a few minutes. (Maybe he won't call anyone else) I told him I had an Apple, which floored him. Then he started talking in HIndi or whatever. I eventually just hung up. An obvious scam from the get go. If it happens to you hang-up or ask as thousand questions. sorry for the one paragraph, it's been a long day.
He goes on to say "Every Microsoft computer has this problem" I go Yeah and you are calling me.. Yes I wish I could pick the Lotto numbers like that. I told him it was scam,,,
Next time I tell him to fix his server. - Jaafar| 1 replyFrom: Dr Collins Brian [collinsbrianonline@att.net]

After rcv this EMail - I receive call from 01112325457, +447745335276, Unknown caller and +9900007530 - asked for 1500 Ringgit Malaysia if I want to collec the £850,000.00 british pounds - not Michael replies to JaafarThe message did not come from Microsoft. It came from a thief. He will trick you into giving him money. He will not give you any money.
Delete the message. Do not reply to it. - Nat, replies to MrOzBarrywe had the same thing the other day only when i pressed the end call button they still were on the line, I had to disconnect the phone from the wall.
- Alison replies to MrOzBarryI got a call last night. Same thing. Pushy guy who wanted me to turn my computer on so he could help me remove some malicious spyware that was downloaded to my computer. I told him there was nothing bad downloaded to my computer he kept pushing it and I actually said, "Do you get people to buy into this? You get idiots to turn their computers on and let you lead them through some sort of malicious downloads?
he then hung up. I *69 the number and it was 210-824-0171.
Do not believe anybody who wants you to do anything. How do people fall for this stuff.
I am also in Toronto. 210 is a Texas area code, but is also listed as an 800 type code.
He better not call again. - Alison replies to R scammed| 7 repliesHow did they get money from you?
- CatherineJust received a call from "James Smith" with a very obvious foreign accent saying that he was from Microsoft and that my computer was sending error reports and that if he could have access to it, he would go over what viruses I had. I said "which computer?" He said the one with Windows 7. I told him it was not convenient right now (and immediately shut down my computer) but if he would give me his name and telephone number I could call him back when it was convenient (and when I had checked out his story). This is when he said his name was "James" and when pressed for a last name, "Smith" but declined to give his phone number. I hung up. The number was blocked from my call display. I am beginning to wish I had bought a Mac!
- not Michael replies to AlisonThe way the scam works, they run a "free" scan. They find lots of problems, which they fix for a fee. But there are no problems except for the ones they installed.
- ajyagiyul replies to MrOzBarrya guy with very heavy Indian kind of accent called and insited he can fix the computer problem.
He tried not to give me a chance for questions and kept talking.
I hang up on him telling that my computer has no problems and plus I have some technician looking after.
He told me that he is calling from New York, which is the total lie.
My telephone has call ID and the number was from Colorado. 303-442-9287
Soon after there came another call with the number 630-653-9660.
This number is already reported and from Illinoi.
I read through the thread and guess that they are the big scam group and they have various phone numbers.
The caller ID does not give you the company name but shows like 13034429287.
