I have also been getting these calls. The same guy calls everytime and has an East Indian accent - so, I asked him where he was calling from - and he said India! I asked him to have a Canadian rep. call me about this problem and he hung up. We also had notification in out local newspaper about this calling scam. It is really annoying and I now longer answer my phone when I see "Unknown Caller".

I've had numerous calls from "Computer(s) Canada" and "Canada Computer(s)", but all male callers, all with thick East Indian accents. I ask lots of questions and began last week to ask for their names and phone numbers. The last two calls were from "Justin Beiber" (yes, that's what he said and that's how he spells it!) and "David O'Brien" (as in DAVID Letterman and Conan O'BRIEN). They babble on and on about malicious files, viruses, error messages being sent by my computer, etc. When I asked how they were able to get my home phone number a couple of them have said it's attached to my IP Address along with my name and address. I call [***]. The only way they could get ths info would be through my ISP and I KNOW they're not giving out that information without good reason.
The way I look at it is that if I keep these guys on the phone for an extra five or ten minutes, then that's at least one or two people who are spared their annoying BS.
I typically don't answer calls from unknown or private numbers, but do if my husband is on-call, just in case it's work related.

I have gotten this call twice the first time I asked them for a number they gave me an alberta number but said they were in BC. The second time I told them not to call me back because I reported them to the police. Recently one of the girls I would with got the call and she asked me about it and had asked them for a number and she got a number from washington state 253-802-0308.

I have received this type of call twice now. I am actually involved in IT Security which made this call rather amusing and scary at the same time. The first time I got the call I argued with them on all their mistakes, that Microsoft would never contact a person directly etc. I finally got frustrated and told them off and hung up. The second time I had some fun asking them all sorts of questions what my computer was running, who my ISP was. Then I claimed to also work for Microsoft and asked which office and department they worked out of that all their information they just told me was wrong and I need to inform their department there is a software issue there and then they hung up on me.

It Is A Scam. Dont Over Worry. We All Know As Well Its Fun To Tease Them But I May Warn You Heavily That If You 1.Call It's A Spam On Them 2.Make Fun Of Their Accent/Race 3.Cuss They Get Extremely Mad And The Threats And Harassment WILL Get Worse. I Have Learned The Hard Way. Although Teasing Is Fun, There Is A Limit To Were You Will Be Cursed Out. ~Love You♥

Windows MTCE Scam
For those that don’t know, this scam involves fraudsters cold calling people, claiming to be a Windows support tech and getting the victim to give them remote access to their PCs in the guise of helping them ‘cleanse’ their systems for a fee ($$$).
NOTE: The issue to remember here is that Microsoft does not monitor all the PC’s in the World looking for ones generating signs of infection so if someone rings up suggesting that they are from or work on behalf of Microsoft, you can rely on it being a hoax.
Be on guard ...

Got the call today and I'm so glad I had read this forum. He spoke with some sort of accent but had an American name. He proceeded to tell me that he was from Microsoft and that there were reports of errors coming from my pc. I laughed out loud and told him that he had reached a company that had an IT department that would take care of this and that we weren't falling for their scam. I also told him to never call this number again and to remove it from their list and hug up on him. The caller ID showed 999-910-0219 which tells me it was a bogus number in the first place.

I just reported the number 718-783-8996. He didn't speak english, said he was from microsoft, and the area code is in the new york bronx area. He hung up on me when I told him I was leery of the call and asked to speak to someone that spoke better english.

I love getting these calls. I spent 5 years working in the trenches of phone-support for an ISP, and I know all the annoying things one can do to frustrate a phone-tech. A favorite is to let them go through their whole spiel (not actually doing anything that they tell you) and then tell them you're on dial-up. Bonus points if you actually have an old phone-modem and make it dial on the line with you.
Just got a call from them ( global tech) kept him on for 15 min. He was a little upset when I told him I would never give anybody info about my computer over the phone. Dont think he will call back. I dont have caller ID. Just called the number you listed and Im sure it was the same guy who I talked to. I will try and get more info on them.

Got the call from Phillip all about my computer and the errors and warnings too. I flat out told him I needed proof of who he was and he gave me a phone number from Utah so he said stating he was from microsoft service center with 801 area code but called here with a 999 area code. RED FLAG there.I let him go on and on while my daughter was on her way here because she is my computer programer and I wanted to google the number he gave me plus the number on my Id and continued to tell him I would discuss the situation with my daughter and call them back with my decision. he really wanted to get me to register with the technical guy, so there is something there that they can use for their scam. I told him I thought he was a scammer and I have had these calls before and he said do I sound like a scammer? Heavy accent Hell yeah you do and I have gotten a call from a phillip before on some other scam and sounds like the same man. So just take it that any odd area codes with a heavy indian accent person on the other end is a scam just google the numbers.
I just received this same call and the man said he was in Calgary. I asked how they got my number and he said from "their" database. They are called "Repair Zone". I have had many calls and asked that he remove my number from the database. He asked me my age and when I refused to answer he said I was rude. I told him not to call again and hung up. This is very frustrating! L Russell

just received a call from a man with broken English and deep Indian accent trying (I think?) to let me know that my computer was infected. Used the word Windows repeatedly, when I questioned him, he was unable to answer the simplest of questions, secondary, I suppose, to a language barrier. red flag-999 area code
Wow....if you're going to scam me... at least try harder to sound authentic!
