    Thank you for your response.

I completely understand your concern. Please accept my apology for not anticipating that problem.  You can email me at teriabc@gmail.com. I would love to hear the tapes and see your excel sheet of calls.  My goal is to help produce a story that will shine a light on this problem.  It needs to be stopped.  Thanks again for responding.

I look forward to hearing from you and other victims of this scam - particularly those who have been threatened and frightened into paying off a debt they did not owe.  I'd love to find out where in India these calls are coming from!

    Thanks again, Teri

    Thanks Julia -
Crookbusta - i'm happy to give you my credentials and contact info  - but would prefer to connect first offline.  If you email me at teriabc@gmail.com we talk there more openly.

I can assure you that I am legit, but just don't want the scammers who read this board to have all of my information. I hope you understand.

    Thanks, Teri

I am getting the same calls. I have had three in the last month. One for $350 and two for $8200 payday loans that I never took out. Same situation I looked into a payday loan and now get these demanding phone calls. They even wanted to talk to my boss as to garnish my wages. I am so sick of it!!!!!!

I just started getting phone calls from these people and today they actually told me that within 24 hours a police officer would come to my home or to my place of work and pick me up taking me to holding and only way to get out would be by bail. It really did scare me as I am only 18 years old.... I have no reason to take out a loan and they keep saying that I did. It seems odd that they have all of my info, but they have my bank account info wrong.. I guess I'm kind of lucky about that one. I just want to know if I should really go to the police to check on a warrant or anything, or if they should be reported with harassment. I have no idea where to begin. I'm scared out of my mind. If I got taken into holding there's NO HOPE of bail for me. Are you guys COMPLETELY SURE that this is a scam? I just want to be sure... The numbers that they usually call from are 305-514-0441, 619-478-6153, 702-249-9756, 360-529-6177, 310-734-0372, and a few more that I can't find on my call logs right now. They're saying I owe around $8,200.. I just want some advice on what my next step should be....

ABC News is working on an investigative story about this scam and we need your help.

If you have been victimized and/or have audiotapes of the threatening calls, or if you know how the scam works with the call centers in India, PLEASE reach out to me on teriabc@gmail.com

I will get back to you with my work email and phone.  I can assure you I'm legit, and I'm working with an investigative reporter on this story to expose the scammers.

Julia and others on this forum have vouched for my credibility.  I am not a scammer. I   I look forward to hearing from you if you've been harmed or threatened or have info that will help us expose this scam.

    Thanks very much,
    Teri

If Julia says you are legit, that's good enough for me.  As I said, scammers love to (ab)use Gmail.

There is no such thing as debt jail! If you have pending charges, you would know. The bank would call or contact you by mail or the prosecutors office would do the same. This is a Capitalist country. They would ask for restitution before just putting you in jail unless in fact you are a bad check writer. These payday loan scams have been getting more and more attention as they act as financial terrorist.

DO NOT GET SCARED AND DO NOT GIVE OR VERIFY YOUR INFORMATION. ASK THEM TO SEND YOU PROOF OF THE DEBT BY FAX OR MAIL. ALSO, BY LAW, IF YOU TELL THEM TO STOP CALLING, LEGIT DEBT COLLECTION AGENCIES ACTUALLY STOP AND ONLY CORRESPOND BY MAIL. IT'S THE LAW....KNOW YOUR RIGHTS!
