I just received a call from 888 742 7649 claiming to be a representative of Sagamore on behalf of a debt. The address given hadn't been lived at in a long time at the time of the "debt" nor was the employer correct. When I asked to what bank and account this debt was accrued to, they gave me a completely fictitious number. I have had only 1 account in which I conduct all business through since my divorce in '09. When he asked me how I want to handle it, I informed him to take me to court.
I had a call like this just today. Do you have points of contact to help me with this. I am in California. They had information about my military bank and I am a federal employee. If you have information please let me know. Thank you.
You need to collect as much info as you can about them. Remain calm when speaking with them. DO NOT say Yes, I understand, OK, or anything else they could edit a recording into making sound like you are agreeing with anything. Do not tell them you are going to report them or anything to that effect.
At a minimum you need their phone number, business name, postal mailing address (not only their street address). Get as much detail as you can about the supposed debt. Ask that they put the demand in writing and mail it to you.
Contact your state's attorney general's office, or local district attorney, and report the fraud.
If they send you anything by mail, contact your local Postal Inspector.
Your state/local government attorney may not do very much. However, the Postal Inspectors are insanely rabid about mail fraud. They can often get crooks far more easily than any other agency.
Do not expect anything to happen immediately.
If the calls or postal mail keep coming, do not answer them. Keep a log of them. If they leave emails, preserve them. Scan any letters to PDFs and keep them safe on a cloud drive. That evidence will undoubtedly come in very handy at some point.
Had you looked up the whois registration information you would have found out it is registered to someone/something in the country of Cyprus, by ENOM, the registrar that never verifies their customers are legitimate, and uses an IP address owned by GoDaddy, which also has a reputation for not verifying the legitimacy of their customers. The Cyprus banking system also has a bad reputation for not verifying the legitimacy of their customers, many of whom are Russians. http://whois.domaintools.com/24pays.com

Also, the site is only 122 days old! Add to that what BigA and William have said, ask yourself: are you REALLY that surprised it was a scam? There's a reason people call Enom 'the choice of scammers' ya know.

Has anyone ever give a name of the debt collectors company like DeVille asset management or greenfield or gateway holdings. I am getting calls from different states and numbers
The best place to find out is to put the numbers that call you into the search box, go to the proper number thread and see what is posted there. You should also post your experience so that others might learn from it.

So, being that my husband works for the Sheriff Dept it was really hard for them to get one over me..especially them not knowing the correct way of serving someone in Texas, so here's how you handle them..tell them you would like for them to stop the harassment effective immediately and that it's their verbal warning and that you have filed a harassment complaint with your local PD, and also with the Sheriff dept (which will cover you locally and your county)..and now reporting them to the Attorney General..tell them that you've also obtained an attorney to begin the process of bringing litigation for Harassment, Defamation, and Mental Anguish..you MUST say it in my exact words for it to be effective...I promise on the resting soul of Harambe the Silverback Gorilla that you won't have anymore problems or calls out of them! From an actual lawyer to a wannabe lawyer, you aren't even in the ballpark of accurate with this so-called legal advice. Watching Law & Order doesn't make you an attorney, nor does being married to a member of law enforcement. I used to find these kinds of "helpful" posts amusing but lately find them to be just annoying.
