Strange number on caller ID +011

Received a phone call on the business line with caller ID:  "011 92 52 9".  I had not intended to answer it, however it stopped after 2 rings ... not enough to go to the voice mail.  Seems like this is a Pakistan exchange or someone using a false Caller ID generator.  This guise is usually used by phantom cold call sales or solicitation persons / companies or collection agencies.  Best thing to do is NOT answer, I think.

The 011 numbers are the first 3 numbers you dial when calling Mexico. It is NOT the country code.

If the number looks like 011+52-5-1234567, then 011 is the code to get an outside (international) line from most of North America, +52 is the country code for México, 5 is the area code for México City and 1234567 (or whatever) is the local number.

If the country code for Russia is +7 and the area code for Moscow is 95, 011+7-95-whatever... calls Moscow.

No country codes begin with +0, +10 or +11.

They call me every hour with all zeros in the number. Some guy called a few minutes ago and I heard his voice and hung up. Then the same guy called on the 222-011-011 number and claimed he had never called before. I hung up and they will keep calling. Usually I ignore it, but sometimes answer saying nothing and they hang up when there is no voice. They claim to be giving away money through government whatever and are really obvious. What they want is your bank information or anything else they can use in their fraud.

It's actually those jerks with the recording "You have been selected to receive a free cruise to the Bahamas. . . . . " (that's as far as the recording got before I hung up)

The call came from 1 (514) 392-9121 (caller ID as Quebec, Canada) which started with the free cruise BS so I hung up.

Then later, I got another call (which I missed) from caller ID 011 51 43 929 121 - same number, they're just jerking around with the caller ID (probably to make people think it's a call from overseas so they'll answer it)

I can back this up. I email somebody that lives there and that Nigeria is a known hotbed for scams and to be super cautious.

+011 used to call my cell phone, and the callers had distinctly Indian or Pakistani accents and were selling a scam program near Fresno that is discussed in an earlier thread. The most recent "+011" came from a telemarketer w/ an Indian/Pakistani accent.

Whatever you do, do not attempt to call the number back. In fact I would ignore the call and see if your provider provides a call blocking option.

We have been getting these for two years and have discussed this with the FBI. We were informed to be prepared to get calls, emails wanting specific info, and for various reasons. One thing you can do is have your service or you can do it is place call anonymous block on your phones. That way anyone that tries to call you using block on their phone ID and blocks your caller ID will not ring thru. Plus, we all need to call Washington Senators and House to pass laws to haver mandatory Caller ID block outlawed for many reasons - scams, domestic violence, stalkers, etc.
