- PB| 2 repliesMany LEGITEMATE companies use: Auto Diallers, or VOIP technology now to reach their clients. In Canada, CRTC rules state that any company using this technology must identify the source of the caller either in Alpha or Numeric value, and generally must only contact customer that have an existing business relationship with them.
Some companies do set the detection of answering machine at “ON” to leave you a message if it detects an answering machine but its not a 100% efficient and sometimes you get the garbled effect of this on your voice mail.
So any calls you receive from 1-000-000-0000 are probably from an un-reputable source for limitless scenarios…simply do not pick up the call if you don’t want to be bothered...or, if you pick up, it might take up to 20 seconds for the call to be connected to a live agent or even for a pre-recorded message to run...it all depends on the type of phone you have and noise interference that might be present at the time you pick up the call...cell phones are somewhat harder for these systems to detect and tend to have a higher failure rate of delivery.
Adding your number to the National DO NOT CALL registry is a good bet to deter Telemarketing but it won’t deter the un-reputable attempts or the existing relationship calls with companies that you do have dealings with. You might ask them directly to have your number removed from any future initiatives they might have to offer you, but just might miss out on a service that might ACTUALLY be beneficial for you : )- Caller: Just about anyone
- Call type: Unwanted
- bforceI received the cruise message...
I played the game (any number you press will register, all the ywant is for you to give your information) when the Operator picked up I breathed heavily and pretended I was enjoying myself to his voice...
He simply started to play along and then started swearing and getting pretty pissed off... I do hope they call again, its too much fun! - Bob8810Ever since I signed up with the Do Not Call List my telemarketing calls have increased significantly including that moron of a Captain calling for a cruise.
I get calls from Credit Card management, vehicle warranties, Superior energy trying to sell me Hydro at 8.5 a Kilowatt when I am getting it at 5.5 cents from Veridian.
I know people have to work even in Telemarketing but do they have to be so darn rude and forceful.Take my advice and stay away from the Do Not Call List.- Call type: Telemarketer
- Sara replies to the cruise folksLets also include the government, They're the ones who passed bad legislation and dumped it on the laps of the CRTC (not that the CRTC is doing anything). If you get the benefit of the photo op then take the lumps when its not working.
- Ginny replies to PBI would be happy to miss that one call that is beneficial to get rid of the hundreds of other calls that are a waste of time. You are going to have to do a better job of defending the telemarketing business.
- Legitimize THIS... replies to PBWhen you start paying the bill for my phone service, then you can tell me whats beneficial and whats not. Until then, EAT STATIC!

- 000-000-0000 replies to Gracie MitchellWhat do you think? How could anyone, any company give you a "FREE" cruise. Even a cheapy cost more than $5000. Is it legit? Figure it out. You just gave vital private info about yourself to an unknown person, in some third world country. Then you told them you are naive. Congratulations! You truly are a winner.
- Mary Dorna replies to aI would like a follow-up on my cruise tickets to Bahamas.
- LP replies to BlondieI'm getting the same calls!! From both of those numbers! I finally picked up each today and got a fog horn on the 000-000-0000 number. On the 2nd number they asked for my husband who was not home. They refused to tell me who was calling, just that it was personal business.
- walrus| 1 replymaybe everyone should answer the phone when 000-000-0000 calls if someone is there ask them who they are, address, phone # ect. if they are stupid enouph to give it to you report them; if the don't tell them to f-Off

- AlexI received a several calls from this number daily and never answered until today (12/26/08) and found out it was a collection call from a credit card company (I owe money but that is a long story for another day). From scanning the previous posts, it looks as if any company wanting to hide their caller ID uses all zeros.
I would just ignore any calls from an unknown number or all zeros.- Caller: Applied Card Bank

- slywe have gotten several calls from this number, we never answer it........why would i want too talk too someone if i don't know whose calling. toll free numbers are a constant nag, there's a website that lets u put your name on a national do not call list and these numbers have 1 month to comply with your wishes, the only calls that you may get would probably be from the occassional charity or something like that and you can ask them specifically to be taken off their list:
https://www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/insnum-regnum-eng - kaytee| 1 replySomeone has been calling me from 000-000-0000 everyday for the last 2 weeks. Finally I answered it this morning, only to find an automated survery, and I was informed that if I completed the survery I would get "free boarding passes" to an all inclusive cruise to Nassau. I was curious to find out who wanted this information form me, so I answered the quesions, including "Are you a homeowner?" and "Are you a smoker?". They also asked if I regularily use a credit card. Once I answered all 10 questions, I was told I was being transferred to an operator who wanted my first and last name to verify that I answered the questions. Instead of giving this guy my name, I started asking him questions, which he was not able to answer, and seemed quite offended that I was even asking. I asked, "what is the name of your company and what are you selling?" The man informed me that he was just a service hired to take my name and wasn't selling anything, but if I gave him my name a travel agent would contact me within 3 days to give me my free cruise. I asked him how is it possible that I was called from a non exsistant number, and he very rudely repeated his claim that he was just hired to take my name. He also refused to tell me the name of the company who hired him. After I repeatedly demanded he answer my questions, he hung up on me, and I was again transferred to an automated service which told me my phone number has been taken out of their system since I refused to cooperate. Never once did I hear the name of the company or anything helpful to identify who is behind this harrassment. Since they didn't ask me for a redit card number or anything I can't say it wasn't a scam, but who knows what would ahve happened if I gave them my name?
- bensonWell , there seems to be 43 pages of comments on this number to date.
Now that we all know its bogus, don't answer or hang up.- Caller: bell
- work there| 1 replyIt's a call center who hired by a number of collection agency....Locating people.....
The 10 questions you got is to identify whether you are a possible match....
Then a Live person will ask you for your name....If this also match...
The third step is to make sure you are "the one".....
Ask for your credit card......evry single cards you got is list in your credit report..... just match it then if you are "the one"...you know who will call you next.....
By law, collection angency can not directly do the above work...or make such call....so the third party is hired to do the work.....- Call type: Valid
- AlRec'd another junk marketing ph call from 000-000-0000. (I'm wondering if this tied in to the previous call from Commercial Relocation Services moments ago. Did not answer. No msg left. - Call #16.
They never leave a message, but call incessantly. We never answer. We let it dump into voice jail—but surprise, surprise, they never leave a message. Clearly their intentions are sinister and devious.
That’s ok, for many of these dirtbags, we have their caller ID’s programmed to dump right into voice jail – much like spam filters for emails.
By the way for all of you Obama-supporters, and those of you who have no life, and believe in holding all night vigils, because you have NO life, how come you dredges of society, aren’t performing a truly worthwhile, and PRODUCTIVE service, like boycotting places and people like this?
Any dope can jump on the “greenie” bandwagon and promote wind and solar and ice-cap melting. Any [***] person can believe in global warming! How about those of you same, stupid people combating annoying calls of this sort?
I know, I know… that means work, which of course is the antithesis and contrary to your entitlement mentality!
It’s easier to go code-pink and promote [***]—that’s right, I said it—[***], rather than do the hard work an ethical and moral society demands. And that’s why to the end of time, dirt bags like these telemarketing firms will lurk in corners, and dark areas, hiding their true intentions much like the incestuous nature of strip clubs—all the very scum of society. If any of this offends you, good! That means I’m right on target.- Call type: Telemarketer
