Same thing here.  Got the call two minutes ago (approximately) and they left no message (I screen all of my calls).  Google searches return Washington, DC as the general area the calls are coming from.  Reeks of Scam all the way.

I just received  a call from Muria with phone number 202-621-5429 and told me the same story that I won $ 7000 grant from the US Gov. and gave a cod (aproval number) and another phone number to call Carol(202-738-4217). When I search it on google I found that both numbers are cell numbers to the same person.
Then I called her back and I told her this is a fraud and I will call the FBI, she hung up the phone.

i received the same call and so i let her talk and then i asked, how did the government pick me to receive money i don't have to pay back?  she says, Ma'm you are one of several people chosen to receive this money and you don't ever have to pay it back to which i replied.....Ma'm if "a government' is willing to give me money and i dont have to pay it back it must certainly be NOT the US goverment.  She says, yes ma'm it is the us government, i am calling from DC and you have been seletected...etc. etc. etc.  i then asked which branch of the government she was referring to.....hung up!  reallly????  how stupid can THEY be?????

I got this twice in three days.  The first time I said this was bs like one of the people up above and the lady said "youre bs" and hung up.  So it was funny that another call came today- this time a guy.  They had an obscure address of mine I used at a UPS store a fee years back. Anyway the guy said I got $7000 from the government and I played along but then I just could not understand his thick Indian accent and told him I was rich so he could keep my 7000 haha.

Same MO with the $7,000 and gave me the same ID#. Told me to call another number to verify who I am. I looked up grants but did not apply for anything. They want me to believe the Government has nothing to do all day but call people to tell them they get a grant they don't have to pay back? Yea, right! They more to do than that! Those telemarketers are driving me crazy!

These calls have been going on for some time, and with all these submissions on record.  Why hasn't it been stopped?  The last time I questioned one of these callers, the man interrupted me, raised his voice and called me a name, like I had no right to question his motives. Then he told me to "Listen to me before you start acting like you have no sense!"  Why hasn't this been stopped?!

Company called me.  Had a feeling it was a scam.  Since I didn't want to give them my card number, they wanted to give me cash.  Why not a check?  Duh.

PLEASE  NOTE !!!   THESE  SCAMMERS  ARE ALSO IMPERSONATING   THE  US  GOV'T /  SEVERAL  GOV'T  OFFICES AND   PERSONS....BEWARE !!!

-  they  are   also  impersonating  DEA  officials  /  IRS  /  FAKE  LAW  FIRMS   etc....  with  threats  to  arrest you  unless  you  immediately  send money  via  wire   transfer /  western  union   to some   offshore  country  !!!!!   obvious  scam  !!!

some  are landlines...many  are  cell phones...some  are  spoofed  and  linked  to  offshore foreign call centers  /  countries !!!!
we've  traced  back  most  of  these  numbers  to  offshore  foreign    call centers mostly  in   INDIA /  THAILAND / AFRICA  /  JAMAICA  ETC....

here's a  few  other  numbers  posted  from  the   same  area  code  offering a  wide  variety  of  scams  /  fake  emails and  scams  after  posting  something  on   craigslist   (  old  scam  )  ...... collecting  for  non  existant  "  payday  loans "....free  money / scam  giveaways /  calling  on  behalf  of  a  humane  society..... $1,000's  in  free  gov't  money.........  etc  etc.....stories  change  out  all the  time......and  the  usual  nonsense!!!

**   mysteriously  call to  claim  they  have  several  thousand  of  dollars  to  send  you / give ....just  provide  your  bank  account and  credit  card   right  away   etc etc.........scam scam

Caller: "202" area  code  fake  calls ,  bogus / fraud  scam

i just got a call 5 minutes ok

A male caller called with an Indian accent and said the owner of this phone number had been chosen to receive a $7,000 federal grant... sounded just like other calls that I have been getting from an unlisted number.  I hung up.

Past week this phone number calls. I never answer. I assume its a scam because no message was left. So I decided to look up the number. And found this forum.
Thank you for the reports. I definitely will not fall victim to this scam.

Just got the same call $7,000 no pay back. I said "Sure I did and hung up"

I have received numerous calls from the number (202) 621-5429 and finally answered today. Usually I do not answer calls but because I am a military wife and we have conducted business in Washington, D.C., I figured I would answer. It was the same thing as listed above. They said I was being awarded a grant from the Federal government from Health and Human Services in the amount of $7000.00. They said I was chosen because I paid my bills on time, have not filed bankruptcy, paid my taxes, and do not have a criminal past. I was then instructed to call (202) 738-1068 and speak with Max Williams. These are fake names and it is obvious. I spoke to "Max" and he instructed me to go to the nearest Western Union and make a deposit for $320 for verification, he also said this was refunded upon verification. Of course I did not do this and instead researched it further. They made it sound legitimate but it is a scam. Please do not do what they ask you to because this is only a scam and they want your money. Always be a smart consumer and remember nothing is free!!

This number has been calling me for weeks now, so I answered to see what it was about. I had already googled it & this website popped up so I knew what to expect. The number called me again, today and so I decided to answer. It was a woman with a middle eastern accent and said I qualified for a $18,000 grant from the government that I would not have to pay back. She then explained how I got chosen and that qualified for this grant. She asked how I wanted to receive the money, by checking or savings account deposit or in cash. I told her that I wasn't interested and she just hung up on me.

I received a call from this number and was told that I was chosen to receive a $10, 000 dollar cash grant that will never have to be repaid. I told them I was not in the habit of giving out my private information and hung up.

same with me I even told them I do no believe a word they r saying

Keeps calling and when i answer they hang up. So frustrating.

NEVER answer a phone call (mobile or land line) from a number you do not recognize- if it's important- the CALLER will leave a message. These SCAMMER/SCUMBAGS WILL NEVER LEAVE A MESSAGE    

Received call from foreign gentleman claiming he is with the US Government "Claims" office and that I qualified for a $10K grant to use at my discretion and that I would never have to pay it back.  I insisted that I would call him back to verify the legitimacy of the call (especially since the Government is shut down at this time).  Did not bother to call him back after reading the other posts on this website.
