I got a call today saying that I owed them money. When I called him out and said that the US Treasure Dept wouldn't contact someone by phone and that if this was legit he would have my address and he could mail his request to me. He wasn't very happy about that and tried to scare me by saying "this is a very important and serious offense, you could go to jail". When I said he was lying he called me a bimbo several times and when I laughed at him he hung up.

He told me I'm going to jail for the tax fraud and they are going to get me today... He was very good at it... and almost believable...

They left voice mail msg which I received voice to text. Garbled so person leaving msg must have poor pronunciation skills.  Msg said he was calling from legal for US Court regarding a law enforcement action. Call back number was completely different from "Dept of Treasury"number that called me.

they said his name was officer roy Jackson calling from united states treasury dept, he said he trying to reach me on a important matter, this guy had a foreign accent.

Recd call from 202 622 3000 saying I'm being charged with fraud by the treasury dept about $2000 plus I owe from a2002 to 2010 audit and I face significant time in jail.  An arrest warrant was being issued immediately. I asked for the number he was calling from plus his name and gov I'd number.  He said  347 518 1890  Gerald Cohen. Au7884.  After I played along showing some reluctance.  He said he transfer me persecution.  I demanded  he give me that number - 347 578 1501.  Some male voice came on (sounding exactly like the original caller - heavy accent and identifying as Daniel sailor) saying the same thing as well as advising I contact a good criminal lawyer. I told him, "do what you have to do."  And I hung up.   I called the no. That came up on caller I'd.  Intercept said disconnected treasury number.  Also called 347 578 1501. Rang once, then nothing.  Hung up and almost immediately my phone rang and the same voice asked if they could help.  I said wrong number and hung up.    Note:  it is now 0900 and I haven't been arrested yet!

Just got a call about case # 000425634892.  Said I was in violation of federal tax regulations, IRS 6331H, and deception.  I didn't file on time or pay on time.  They knew my work number and home address!!  Said the police were coming to my house if I hung up.......  :(

At about 6:30 p.m. this idiot with a thick accent (thick enough to cut with a knife) called me claiming I had committed tax fraud between 2002 and 2007 and my immediate reaction was that this was some scammer. I said I didn't believe him and that he should stop harassing me. I got the B.S. question about the "notice," too. I reported the call to the IRS on their complaint page. Maybe he was Indian, maybe Arab, but it doesn't matter: stupid is as stupid does across borders.

I got a call today from this number (202) 622-3000 claiming to be the US Treasury Department today at 1 PM and claiming that I owed about $4000 from the year 2003 to 2007. Dummy me fell for the scam. When it comes to doing taxes, I usually go to H&R Block or a company similar to them. The speaker called me up and told me that I either did not go to H&R Block or I lied about the whole thing. The speaker (with a foreign accent) said that if I don't pay $2000 someone will be waiting at my door to arrest me and that I could spend 180 days in jail. I was also told that after the $2000, it was interest accumulated and they will forgo the interest if I pay the $2000 now. Unfortunately, I fell for it. They wanted $500 increments from iTunes cards. But I only had enough in my bank account, which was not enough, and I ended up giving them $1500. I told them I will give them the rest tomorrow after I borrow some money from my bank. My neighbors told me I was scammed. You see, they have TV, I don't. And they told me that was the latest scam that was on the news. Well, tomorrow, when they open up for business, I plan on calling the police and the IRS and talk to them about my incident. Because of the scam and I lost $1500, I actually now have to borrow $2000 from my bank so I can make rent payment and pay my bills. I pray to God that others will not fall into the scam as I did.

IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.  IRS has enough administrative authority under the IRS Code and related regulations to collect all taxes lawfully due the federal government.     Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes.  IRS has no powers of arrest as related to ordinary tax disputes.  Having a deficiency in taxes owed by way of audit is NOT a crime.  IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of  money.  IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone.   IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.    All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

Some Indian or Middle Eastern accented bum id'd himself as Officer Lloyd Jackson with the US Treasury Dept and said there were liens filed against us. We needed to call 559 or 549 (garbled) 203-7078 immediately to resolve our tax issue. Sorry...I have to wash my hair.

Just got the same call, ID says "DEPT OF TREASURY"  202-622-3000.  Threatened me with 180 days unbondable jail time, and I needed to hire a criminal lawyer for my defense.  "I could settle out of court, or  opt to go to court."  His name supposedly is Gerald Cohen, and his supervisor's name is  David Lebryk.  This continued on for about 25 minutes, then he said have a good day and hung up.

Received several calls from this number and when I answer they don't reply they just hang up.. I called back disconnect US Dept of Treasury number that's what the machine says.

The supervisor's name, David Lebryk, was the same name in my incident. I wish I had a tape recorder so I can record these calls and posted somewhere online so others can hear it. Yes, they too threaten to put me in jail for 180 plus days and in addition to closing my banking account.

Read what TerryHC said. It is very IMPORTANT!!! I am his friend and I helped him out on the situation. He does not have a computer. He either uses mine or goes to the public library. When he told me about this issue, I was the one that advised him what to do. I was a little late at first in helping him with this IRS scam but afterwards I was there for him. These IRS scammers WILL read what you post online. And they will threatened to crash your computer when they say that they read what you wrote. They cannot do that. We contacted the REAL IRS and the police and they told us it WAS a scam. I told my friend that if they want to play games with you, you play games with them. A week after they did the scam on my friend, they tried it again. They wanted the codes on the back of the iTunes cards. I told him give them a fake code (write the fake code on a piece of paper because they will ask you several times for the code and they will repeat it back to you). Well, they tried several times to access the code on the iTunes card; it did not work for them. At that point, they told my friend that in two hours a police officer will be at his house to arrest him. Well, more than two hours had passed and nobody came by to arrest him. Fortunately for us I was around when the last incident happened to him. We recorded the whole thing. We called up his phone company and asked if they could post to anyone with caller ID that if they get a call from that number to have it read as: IRS phone scam. The phone company said they will work on that good advice and see what they can do about it.

Actually, depending on where Timothy lives, he could get in trouble for recording-same with you if your state is one of those that has two-party, meaning the person that CALLS YOU has to give PERMISSION for you to record them.

Unfortunately these IRS telemaggoters are based overseas and that makes it next to impossible to do much of anything unless the country of origin is willing to get involved. A friend of mine went through one of these calls and actually recorded the whole thing. My mother received two of these calls and I saved one of the voicemail message they left. I tend not to answer calls from unknown numbers, but if I knew it was an IRS telemaggoter I just might answer the call in order to record it myself.
