Hi.  Thank God I looked at this website before trusting Briliant Sparman.... Was looking for a condo in Nashville, TN....  She said that it was available.... it was so cheap (2 bedroom for $50/day in downtown near Vanderbilt Hospital) and that is why I was curious if it was a scam... and it is....

Thank goodness I found this website BEFORE booking! I had the same thing happen as all these other people. Found a great looking apartment for rent for $150 a night in San Antonio. Asked her if it was available and of course it was! I got suspicious after the Dea Lazo asked for me to send her money through Western Union, so I googled her name and found my way here.  Thanks everyone!

My friends and I were taken advantage of during this same scam.  Once funds were received communication ceased.  Requested a receipt repeatedly and didn't receive one.  Wired $400 to a "Wanda Burts" in New York.  Please be careful and trust your instincts.

It seems as though these people do this for a living. I wish I had done more research prior to sending $400 to Lawrence Schollenberger for an apartment in San Antonio, TX, but I got caught up in the excitment and the low rate. I have filed a police report hopefully these people have to pay.

Didn't do my homework to check "her" out and lost big time !!!.

The apartment building is a "Storage Place" of some sort.

I wish I had checked this site earlier and before sending any money !!!.

They tried to scam me too. Unbelievable as it is, I was trying the vacation rental section of Craigslist New York and I got around 30 replies - ALL WERE SCAMS.
Please DO NOT rent vacation apartments through Crailgslist and DO NOT wire money through Moneygram, PayPal or Western Union - YOU WILL LOSE THEM. Yes, even PayPal will not refund them.
I cannot stress this enough - do not send any money for craigslist vacation rentals.
I live in New York and I wanted to see the apartments before I gave the money. All of the "posters" either outright refused or came up with lame unbelievable excuses.
After I did some research, it turned out that short term vacation rental in New York is not legitimate in most cases. It is NOT like Europe where I have rented apartments in Spain, Italy and France. Your best choice for accommodation would be a hotel (now with the state of the economy you could get deals, especially in Queens around Queens Plaza), a bed-and-breakfast or a hostel. I would strongly warn against vacation rentals through Craigslist.
Do not fall for their scams! They would even promise to pick you up from the airport at no cost and would even give you references of people who supposedly stayed at their apartments. I emailed one such reference and I got a "raving" reply that was very vague - the person didn't mention at which apartment she had stayed and for how many days.

i was scammed by one Sheila, i wired the money to Bette Lamb

This same person has a scam in New Orleans  vacation rentals, several actually, Kate Owen is the name she goes by.  The name in the other ad with the same crap was James Bonnell.  After a few e mails the english becomes more broken and the stories become more vague.  She gave the above # when I asked for one.

Wow - how is this for lucky: I went to do the money gram transfer today and the guy at the exchange counter advised me NOT to do this and instead ask Wanda Burts and Anthony Mark Bishop (two different places that I was hoping to rent in New York off craigslist) the so-called agents to provide their bank account details instead of wiring the money directly by money gram transfer. A quick google linked my straight to this page where my blood went cold realising that I was 'this close' to getting scammed. Anyway, I am super worried now because when we were trying to figure out the dates I sent my half completed booking form back to them to double check the amounts and in it was my address and telephone number. Is this bad? Will they be able to do anything with my address/number (it is an overseas location) please advise!!!
