Yep, got the same scam tonight after showing interest in a "Relaxation Apt" in St. Louis that was posted on craigslist.  http://stlouis.craigslist.org/vac/1758338499.html

    -------------------

Thank you for showing interest. The apartment is available for the dates chosen. I am sure that this is one of the best apartment you can get around at this reasonable rate. But I cannot guarantee the hold of the apartment until you book for it. You are required to pay 50% of the total rental fee and a Refundable security fee of $100  to enable me hold the apartment for you,as there is rush for the apartment at this time. The apartment is $50  per night. Check the below quotes for the cost of nights you intent to stay in the apartment.
Address: 4398 W Pine Blvd St Louis, MO 63108
    6      NIGHTS =   $300
    %50 DEPOSIT   =   $150
    SECURITY FEE  =   $100

All you have to do to hold the apartment is to pay a 50% of the total rental fee, plus the Refundable Security Fee which is $100.  which will be given back to you on the day you departing from the apartment,  Once you have made the payment I will issue you a receipt confirming your payments. There are also door men and cleaners who would come at intervals under your request to clean and attend to your needs. This also does not attract any extra charges. You get to notify me of the exact time you will be arriving in MO to make arrangement to pick you up. There is no extra charges for this also. I will render this service for free.I will send you our booking form and agreement as soon I have your reply to know you are interested in the apartment.

    Regards
    Mrs. Briliant.

    -------------------

After asking for a way to contact her, she provided the following:

    -------------------

    Phone: 206-339-0186

The line maybe busy due to a lot of calls we receive from other clients.
    Brie.

    -------------------

Fortunately this one was easy to detect with the poor phrasing and grammar, but this website helped me debunk it completely.

We fell victim to the same scam. We had to send money to a Mr. Raymond Belcher in New York. He sent us a contract for for an apartment in Boston. Property records show no listing of of a Raymond Belcher owning that address. Stay away!

OMG! I just got the same message from Briliant Sparman. Condo/apartment 2 bd 2 ba in Honolulu with exact message you got. Mine was for 14 nights with a quote of $700 for the stay, $350 50% down with $100 refundable deposit. Im getting quick response from this brilliant con person with the same email you got. I have just found the ad on craigslist about an hour ago, emailing from Seattle and within 3-5 min, get these responses on the property. I even got an address to Chateau Waikiki. On the Condo info it only has 2 units with 2 bed 2 bath. I kept asking if the property is on VRBO and this person keeps telling me that he/she has sent me the address to look at and it only has 4 photos. So I usually do my homework and investigate on these type of cases. I had a friend in Honolulu go and check the place out (she is a real estate agent) and found out the units with 2 bd 2 ba are occupied and was able to get a hold of resident manager and confirmed that this is not the first time someone came by or called to confirm rental property. This Briliant person is a scam and people has lost money through this. People, be careful and don't send money until you are sure someone has checked it out or it's through the hotel itself.

I just saw a posting indicating that there is a scam concerning these cheap vacation rentals in new york. Here is a craiglsit post that just came up today. Is this one real or just another scam?

    URGENT PLEASE READ!!!!!]

We at Metro Apartments DO NOT advertise our vacation property on Craigslist. We DO NOT accept payment for bookings via Western Union or MoneyGram. We only accept payments via credit card or Pay Pal. There are persons on this website who have stolen photos of our property and are advertising rentals for 1 bedroom apartments for $50.00 a night. THIS IS A SCAM YOU WILL LOSE YOUR MONEY AND HAVE NOWHERE TO GO WHEN YOU ARRIVE TO NEW YORK.

The contact names for these dishonest crooks are Dawn Morris, Travis Parker, and Herbert Mouscardy
    They use the email addresses, ( hmouscardy@ymail.com, trental023@gmail.com, & vrental039@gmail.com)
DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!

Once again the following contact names and e-mails are a scam and have NOTHING to do with Metro Apartments (Dawn Morris, Travis Parker, Herbert Mouscardy, hmouscardy@ymail.com, trental023@gmail.com, & vrental039@gmail.com)

Thank goodness is right I was just about to send nearly 800.00 for a 2br 2b apartment until i started feeling uneasy about the lack of information and his insistence to go ahead and send the money via western union.  Thank goodness I was unable to send that much through western union online.  I am thankful for sites such as this one to help figure out scams.

I almost bought into the same as all above.  4 br 2 bath apt. Ocean Beach, NY (FireIsland). $250 per night on Craigslist.  Email contact Jeremy Ronald.  Thankfully I thought a little too good to be true.  Did a little googling using the address Jeremy provided me with and found info & pictures of the real property.  Too bad the picutres Jeremy sent and the ones on web of the actual property were close but not exact.  Then I googled the name Lawrence Schollenberger which is the alleged owner listed in the rental agreement they wanted me to sign and found this site.  How these guys can get away with this is unreal.  BEWARE ALL!!!  SCAM!!!!
