    Scammers
Folks, telemarketing scams are the new email spams. They aren't going to stop and they come in many many forms.

The caller ID is always a dead giveaway that the caller on the other end is a scammer. It is always an unsuspecting caller calling from an unknown number. Caller Id is generally wireless caller or Unknown caller or unknown name-or some other random unsuspecting caller id.
The number is ALWAYS out of area code. Always! And more than likely it is a recording (telemarketing is illegal if you are in the DNC list) or someone with a foreign accent. Always.

Know the signs!!! Once you get a scam call you will get many many many many more. Just ignore the calls and report them to the appropriate authorities. Please report. Also and more importantly please warn others.

Criminals look for gullible people to steal personal information. There is no service, no reward, nothing. Nothing but theft. Never ever give out personal information over the phone. Please repeat. Especially to callers that call you!

Criminals do not care about the law and yes they are trained to steal. That is their only purpose. Be smart folks, know the signs, do not provide personal information over the phone, warn others and report the calls!!!

learning from all of you.  Thank you.  212 Scammers.  I answered it because I have a few more minutes from the old geezer Verizon plan with 200 minutes of prime time allowed each month.  It was probably a "robocall" because there was no one to talk to.  and from NY ( or maybe Bangalore)

I think you and MTMT are talking past one another. Charities can legally call you. They are NOT required to pre-screen or look to see if you are on the DNC list first. Yes, if they do call, you can tell them to stop calling and put you on their internal do not call list. They are supposed to do so but that restriction is only good for a year. They can try again after a year.  As far as I know, no one monitors their compliance. Solicitation calls are required to check your number against the do not call list BEFORE they call. As we know most of them don't. I think the DNC list is a joke. If it works at all the fines are too small. To the big spammers, it's just a business tax. Sorry I gave up complaining years ago. I just block the numbers and worry about something I can control. You are correct in every aspect about the criminality of what's going on. The phone companies are as culpable as the spammers and robo callers. They could bring great pressure but they make too much money on the sales call lines and services. I use a DigiTone in line call blocker. The fools get 8 seconds of silence then a hangup. They end up at least paying for a connection if calling from an 800 number.

When I typed this number into my search engine it came up as:

    225 W 110th St #4
    New York, NY, 10026
    212 662 1393

I assume this person is either a middleman for someone's auto-dialer or works for whatever company is trying to sell
something.  I never pick up calls like this............besides I know no one in New York!

Sad to say we no longer answer the phone unless it is a caller id we recognize. In addition we through out all mail with less than 1st class postage.
Our charities is all local now. If I were the big charities I would pressure our useless government to somehow stop all of this.
Charities will take a big hit.

    Very sad.

Second call this week from NEW YORK. Different numbers. Both selling medical alerts.
Today I had finished my first wine, so pressed one to speak with agent. Too much fun.
He tells all about this BS system, I am very polite and ask questions and pretend to care.
    Sip a second wine.
We get to the part about paying $10 for shipping. My favorite part, heh heh. The usual ship it and I will write a check.
Not, he must have a credit card number. After several minutes of my not understanding, I have had enough fun.
Ask him what kind of stup*d fu**ing moron idiot is he? Before I finish I get a dial tone. I guess he didn't like my attitude.
A fun 5 or 10 minutes. I wonder when the next call will arrive.

If enough of us tied up enough of their time each time they called (without giving tem any useful information), it would make thrir scams too inefficient to br profitable for them.  Since we don't know their real phone numbers or anything about them, we can;t use the legal system.  Let;s fight back by stealing their time.

I rec'd a call from Pre-Trial Processing numbers so many times that I finally decided to talk to one of them.  The woman gave me her name, Marion J. Young, and even told me where she was calling from (Manhatton New York, and she stated that I needed to pay the deceased family members bill today, or there would be a Police Officer here tomorrow with a warrant.  I told her "That's fine, I will meet him at the door with a 35 or a 357, you choose"  She immediately hung up.  I rec'd so many of these calls from Pre-Trial Processing for a deceased member of my family that I finally bought an AIR HORN and let them have it every time they called, that they finally stopped calling.

You are one smart cookie.  I never thought of that.  Now I have forwarded a number of bill collectors and other unmentionables to Citi Bank.  Here's to hoping they get a taste of their own doo doo.
