https://800notes.com/forum/ta-9413b3202bc8b6c ... net%27s-tactics - AnnaIt was a call from a debt collector threatening to go to court if I didn't call by the end of business today, and that they were going to call my employer to verify my employment status. It is a scam,
- Stay aware of these devilsOnce we are all on the same page; ye what race you are, lets thank god that we are not afraid to speak on these crooks who will get caught in their own web of deceit
- Caller: 214-504-2986
- Call type: Debt collector
- PamReceived this message on my home phone that they were calling about check or bank fraud that has been alleged agains me. They indicated they have mandated to contact my employer to verify my employment. To stop action I should call back. I called back and got a voice mail but it did not say the organization or individual's name. This is bogus
- Call type: Debt collector
- Robin123Received recording that I was "named" in an investigation into bank/check fraud & that my employer would be contacted to verify employment & serve me with papers. If I didn't want them contacted, I should press 9 to stop it or call this 214 number. Call came in as "99999992114" on caller ID.
I was recently told if you speak to a person when you receive calls like this to advise them you are recording the call. This normally ends the calls because they hang up as they don't want to get recorded using their illegal collection tactics.- Call type: Debt collector
- Colleen| 1 replyReceived the same message that bank fraud was commited and they were contacting my employer. What can be done to stop this?

- CVT| 2 repliesI just got the same check/bank fraud call that others have referenced above. Came through my cell phone (so what good is the Do Not Call registry I signed up on???) I never write checks so I know this is bogus. 214-504-2986 Contacted my company's HR department to put them on notice. So, how do you report this to the FTC or FBI and would they even do anything?
- Elspeth replies to CVTThe DNC list only works for legitimate, law-abiding companies and businesses - scammers and spammers have no problem breaking the law. Good for you, that you wend ahead and notified your HR Dept about your callers. Your place of employment may be able to have their telecom provider block the number(s) these people are calling from. You can report the callers here:

- emerald46| 1 replyI received (2) messages from an "outside caller" stating to call 214-504-2986 by the end of business day. They stated the following:
"I was being charged with bank fraud and they will be contacting my employer to verify my employment status. It was important for me to call 214-504-2986 by the end of business day to resolve this issue."
I have received calls like this before and checked the # online to find that many people have been reporting about them. When I contacted them, I was informed the company name was "Global Acquisitions" and their address is "8411 Preston Rd, Suite 238, Dallas, TX 75225". She stated her name was Lisa and put me on hold, I was disconnected after 29 seconds. The second time I called, I stated my name and they immediately put me on hold where I was disconnected shortly after. The third time I called, I was hung up on immediately. The fourth time I called, I went right to a voicemail box for "Lucas Johns". I decided to wait a little while to call back again, this time I spoke with Cassandra who was trying to make light of the situation. She tried to get some information from me which I wouldn't provide (i.e. my state, confirm SS#, etc). Since I couldn't verify this information, she stated she would have to terminate this call because she couldn't bring up my file.
I am now filing this information with the FTC and other fraud report sites. I should mention that I informed them on each call, from the start of the conversation, that I was recording the phone call (they didn't seem to like that too much).
Please don't let these people scare you, they have to much time on their hands and they are trying to get money from hardworking people. REPORT THEM, that's the best way to stop future harassments.- Caller: Global Acquisitions (Caller ID: Out of Area)

- emerald46 replies to ColleenFile a complaint with the FTC, FBI, etc. (see me previous note with the company details). The more people filing complaints will help in putting an end to these vile cretins.

- Natalia and RomanMy dad and I were victims of that scam too. They called us on Tuesday 6/4/14. I received a message stating that I have been involved in a case of bank fraud and they needed to verify employment as ordered by the court, they also told me that I had until the end of the business day to return the call. When I call the 214 number I get a voicemail of a Lucos Johns and some other times I get a fax or I just hear music.
In my dad's case, they called other family members asking for him, finally on Tuesday 6/4/14 he spoke to a lady "named" Mrs. Barroso which was asking for his social security # and other personal information, since he refused to give her this information she said she was going to transfer him to the "attorney" he was on hold for 10 min and then she disconnected the call.
Those people have to be reported and they should be punished, they cause a huge distress specially on older people, in my dad's case he was so afraid by the way that lady threated him with the court and a judge that he took all his savings from the bank (although he has never done anything illegal).- Caller: 214-504-2986
- FrustratedLike many others, I received a call stating that I had committed bank/check fraud and I needed to contact them by COB today. They also stated that they would be contacting my employer and taking me to court. They also used my maiden name like many others.
- HeynowJust received a message from these guys this morning about using me for check fraud, same as the others. However, when I called back, the woman said the company's name was Global Acquisitions. She said it looked like my file had just been sent to the Georgia office and someone from there would be calling me within 24 hrs. I asked what kind of company they are, and she said they were a litigation company. She said she couldn't tell anything else from the file except that it had been moved because I live in Georgia. I told her I didn't live in GA, and she immediately said they would remove my name and number from their computer and won't be calling back. She said it must be another person w my name that lives in GA w a different phone number. It totally is a scam. I can't believe she gave me as much info as she did.

- Dawn| 1 replyI got the same people calling me but their number comes out on my caller id as "Unknown". They claim I am going to get served with papers for check fraud and that I need to call them at 214-504-2986 by the end of the day or they will contact my employer. These idiots are nuts! I am DEBT FREE so I know THIS IS A SCAM! BEWARE! Do not call these idiots back and DO NOT give them any information. We as Citizens of the US should contact our Congressmen to create a LAW for these idiots to stop their ILLEGAL and SCAMMING SCHEMES!

- Alfalfa replies to DawnConsumer protection laws are already in place. Unfortunately, rogue debt collectors (such as these) don't give a flying fig about them. All we can do is keep reporting their illegal activities in hopes that one day they will have their day in court and be permanently enjoined from victimizing anyone else.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
