I didn't do any survey and I didn't ask to be called and they call day and night, before I get out of bed and sundays.

Mine was someone calling from a medical school for a study on media and advertising. Some woman left me a voicemail saying they'd keep calling me back. I'm on the no call list too.

I was receiving too many calls from this number daily and I have filed a complaint with the FCC.  Just google Federal Communications Commission and follow prompts to file a complaint.  Took less than 5 minutes.  If we all do this, hopefully it will stop.  Unless anyone else has a solution...

They keep calling our cell phone number.  My husband finally answered last week after them calling 2-3 times a day.  The lady said she was doing a survey for Dartmouth Medical on teen's health and wanted to speak to a child 14-18 years of age.  He told them they were not talking to our child and asked them to stop calling.  They stopped for almost a week and then started again yesterday.  I answered it this morning and quite frankly the lady was very RUDE!  She actually argued with me.  I told her to take me off the list and she said there was not a list.  So maybe it is a random number calling system but I told her I was going to report her and she said "to who?"  I couldn't believe it!  She asked me again...."Who are you going to report me to?"  I told her the law and hung up.  I will try a complaint to the FCC.

I think if you've asked the company to stop calling you multiple times and they continue calling, it's considered harassment, no matter their reason. It's OUR right to decline to take the survey and ask them to stop calling. Legitimate or not, we have a right to not be harassed.

Said they were doing a survey to see if anyone in the household was eligible for a medical trial. She said it was for Tufts -- which seemed weird to me, especially medical information gathered blindly - how desperate is that - I thought doctors recommended people for trials. I thought they might be one of those Extendz (or whatever) men's "aides" sellers.

If this is legitimate, I don't understand them making blind calls. It doesn't make sense. They asked me for my name and if I was over 18 years old, but asking for my name off the top seems really invasive and they should know who I am if they are calling me, right?

I don't think anyone who doesn't already know my name has the right to invade my home with a phone call, and anyone who thinks that pollsters and surveys have that right have no sense of a person's right to privacy.

I see a google of their name indicates that they are in the research business, but that doesn't mean they have good business practices, nope, doesn't mean that one bit.

Answer and try it the old school way! There must be enough "Baby Boomers" getting harassed to remember when people spoke up and some back bone..... We didn't lay down and let young people go off to war without a peace demonstration or get taken to the cleaners by high taxes, gas prices, and corrupt politicians. Never mind one company like WESTAT!

COME ON PEOPLE.... ENOUGH SITTING BACK AND TAKING ANOTHER KICK.....ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! TAKE A STAND NOW!

It's a phone system and like any system can be overloaded by incoming calls. If we get our family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and colleagues involved we can at least send a message
that enough is enough.. We all have the right to our privacy and if we don't take a stand then you can bet your last dollar that the bureacrats in our goverment won't do thing.

LET'S HELP OURSELVES NOW..... ON TUESDAY, MARCH 1ST 2011, CALL THE SAME NUMBERS AND SHUTDOWN THERE SYSTEM OF GOV'T AUTHORIZED HARASSMENT!!

    Everyone take note:

    1) This company uses computer aided technology to dispatch their outgoing calls. Once your phone number connects the first time (they get a ring on your line), they know your number is a working number and they've pretty much got you.
    2) Don't waste your time at www.donotcall.gov trying to report them.
    3) If you want to keep these people from calling you must do one of the following:

-- if they are calling your mobile phone, contact your mobile carrier and have the number blocked. Per FCC regulations they are required to do so at no charge. Sprint, for example, makes it's incredibly easy to block incoming and outgoing numbers. Just sign in to your account, go to preferences, limits and permissions and then it's pretty obvious from there.

    - if it's your home phone, call your local phone service provider (which may not be same company as your long distance provider) and have the number blocked. As long as you're using a real phone company (i.e. not VOIP), I'm pretty sure the same FCC regulations apply as above.

Sure, I went to college, nor do I think the world is after me.  Furthermore, I worked for the government for ten years.  However, I'm going to get a tad perturbed when they call at nearly 9 pm over the course of several days.  I know... how ignorant of me.

They hae called several times a day for the last month or so. I've answered twice and they said they are doing a survey for some University. I told them I was not interested and asked them not to call back. They will "politely" argue with you and then will call back even though you've asked them not to.

Westat buys lists of phone numbers from list brokers, who usually compile them from other companies you do business with.  Some of you people need to wake up, seriously!  Whenever you enter your name in a drawing at your local mall, sign up for information about a product you may be interested in, etc, you are putting your name and number out there to be sold.  Be angry with the ones who sell your number, not the company who uses it to conduct valuable statistical research.  Westat's research spans from pressing NIH issues like cancer and obesity to NHTSA safety issues to childrens' welfare studies.  They are the good guys, people.  Many of their surveys ACTUALLY DO PAY a small incentive.  They respect your time.
THIS IS NOT SOME COMPANY ASKING YOU QUESTIONS TO FIND OUT HOW TO SELL MORE THINGS TO YOU.  They are trying to make all of our lives better.  Do yourself a favor and answer the phone.

If they are so "legit" why do they ignore the do not call list and why do they keep harassing me on my cell phone wasting my minutes?

They have called me numerous time about "our country and the Health Care system"  When I finally had a few min to talk they said it would take 30 min!  I didn't have that kind of time and asked them to just not call me any more but thank you.  The calles stopped until today when i got this obviously older woman who knew that they had called before and asked If I had any questions about the study.  I said no.  So then she asked if I would to the survey now.  I said I work from home, which I do medical transcribing, and could not.  She asked when she could call back, in the evening?  I said my schedule was different from day to day depending on my work load.  she got very rude when I asked her to just take my name off the list and said "oh so you would rather work than take our survey?"  I said yes and hung up.  That was being nice, the next time they call, they will get the rude me as I got from her!
    Frustrating.
