- elfngirl replies to Purple2010I got the same one for a sofa I listed on Craigslist. It didn't sit well with me so I did a search for the email: janetcole@wikizplc and found this site. I am so grateful to those of you who have posted concerning this. It wasn't sitting well with me and all of your postings verified my instincts.
It was the same story... she is deaf and preferred to communicate via email. She is fine with the condition of the "item" and is having a delivery company pick up it up from my house. She will send a check to cover the costs of the delivers via UPS overnight and needs me to provide my address, cell phone, land line number, and full name. Yeah...
Big thanks to those of you who have posted before me. There are lots of people out there that really prey on the Good Samaritans. - EGo| 4 repliesI just received the same email in response to a furniture for sale add on craigslist. I knew something was off.... why would I pay the movers, AND more importantly, if the person was deaf, what would they do with my telephone number?
I hope these people are eventually held accountable for their actions.
In the meantime, I am still looking to sell my dresser and nighttable to a legitimate buyer.......
THANKS FOR THE POSTS! - George replies to EGo| 3 repliesI, too, have heard from the infamous "Janet Cole". Got my check right here for $2465 written on a credit union in Brownwood, TX. Just for giggles, I called them and confirmed it fraudelent.
Got the exact same email, right after I made my first post on Craig's List.
Called the local authorities. They said they didn't have the budget to deal with all the complaints like this that come in . . . said it would take two or three investigators full time.
Is there any one at the FBI who will take a phone call that I could send the check and FedEx package to? - George replies to George| 2 repliesOh . . . forgot to mention in the previous post . . . the asking price was $200 . . . .
- LD replies to JCI received the exact same letter as the one you posted!!! Thank goodness I checked her out online!
- Fred replies to George| 1 replyWow, received all the same exact emails from Janet Cole in response to Craiglist posting for furniture. Asked me to send check to same Tammy Bell in FL.
I received the check, made out for an amount significantly higher than asking price. I started having second thoughts as story was not making sense, along w/ the return address on delivery package, payor names on check, etc.
did a google search for deaf janet cole, found this website - TOTALLY SURPRISED. Saw the references to filing complaint on FTC, FBI looking into (went to website, can file complaint for internet fraud), also called local police.
Local police will be getting the check w/in next 24 hours and all relevant info - - Fred replies to FredJust to clarify, not the local police in TX / KS / FL that Janet Cole is associated w/.
Local police in my hometown. - Alexis Baker replies to skipI just got a note from the same "Janet." I replied telling them to f*** off. What jerks! Thanks for your help!
- jmYou can add these names to the list. Though when I give them the address to the local police station to send the check to, for some reason the email addresses are no longer valid. Wonder why.

John Alan <alwaysme0404@gmail.com> - DJ replies to Toddre: Serian Gift; I received exactly the same message:
I'm glad you still have it for sale,i would have love to come and see it,but my scheduled is very tight.I will mail out your payment once you provide your full name.phone number and address.I can only pay via money order as am on a business trip now,pls let me know where to send your payment to because i wouldn't want to lose it to some else.I don't mind adding ($20) dollars so you can keep it in my favor, you should get your payment in 7-9 working days i will appreciate if you can get the ad off craigslist so i can be sure you are keeping it in my favor. Please let me know as soon as you receive it so i can start making arrangement for the pick-up.
Thanks
Sounds like a scam to me, I replied that I only accept cash. Have not had a reply yet. - Eric| 2 repliesYep, my wife was the victim of this scam on Craigslist. Did anyone actually have the check cashed or did it bounce? If you merely deposited it, just go back and tell them that you have detected a scam and they will stop the check processing. Unfortunately, my wife didn't detect the scam and deposited the check. We're going in Monday to stop the check from being processed. We'll probably be assessed a fee but at least it stops there.
Did anyone pay for pickup of the item you were selling?
This is our first scam and I'm pretty upset that they almost got away with it. Luckily, my wife told me about it and started picking up on the oddness of the emails she was getting. Contact the FTC, and maybe we can help others to avoid this scam. - Eric replies to EricJust to clarify, the bank might be dupped into thinking the check was genuine, cash it, you then turn the money over to the scammer, then the bank comes back asfter finding the check is indeed fraudulent and then finds you liable. Thank goodness we caught it in time.
We have a deaf daughter, so the scammers claim of deafness made us sympathetic.....what a lesson we have learned! - kim4458 replies to Heart RN| 2 repliesHey all, thanks for posting. I just got the same scam email from Janet Cole. Something about the reply just didn't sound right so I decided to do a google search and found this.
Two different email addresses were used, said they'd send a check and then send movers and asked me to delete the posting. Also asked for my phone number and said they were deaf.
Not falling for that scam - Peter replies to Sabina| 1 replyWe were selling dining chairs on Craigslist and "Janet" responded to our ad.
Every once in a while you get that SCAM SIGNAL that goes off in your head....so I googled her name @ opera.com and found this thread.
People posting like this, for the sake of the good of others, is priceless. They can save each other at the very least a lot of wasted time or being ripped off by a low life.
The email she sent was exactly the same M/O as listed in a few of these threads so I'll post it below for others to be wary of.....
Hello,
Thanks for the response... I'm okay with the condition and price of the item and ready for its purchase. My form of payment will be by sending you Check via UPS next day air delivery.
I'll be responsible for the pick-up and the movers fee will be included in your payment to avoid delay and to enable pick up company to schedule an appropriate time for the pick-up at your location after check has been cashed as I have other properties to be moved alongside the item.
And secondly , Kindly delete the posting as am definitely buying it from you and it would be sad for me to have the payment in the mail only to be informed of the its sale.I will also wait for you to cash the check before i have my mover come for pick up.
Would have love to come over for viewing but I'm afraid that might not be possible due to my work frame. If you have more pics please send so I can have a good look. Do get back to me with your full name and address (not p.o box) including your cell and land number so I can make out payment. Also am deaf and will like to be contacted via email
Regards
Thanks
Thanks to all concerned posters here, bless you and keep looking out for your fellow men and women!!

enter this email at all the porn sites to spam back - Julie replies to peterWell, Janet has hit again. This time she wants a tv entertainment center. Where the hell is she gonna find a house for all this furniture? That poor moving man will be working straight for many years traveling the country to make pick ups. This one is in Virginia.
Wonder if the Post Office can do anything since it is a federal offense to send fraudulant checks in the mail.
Hope these scums are caught. Wish there was some way of us finding out. Thanks to the originater of this blog. You have saved many people from loosing money. God Bless. - OddThanks for posting about this scam...I just got a reply after posting an ad for furniture...it was from janeticole@wikizplc.com

- Kimberly replies to kloHey - I unfortunately fell for this scam. How did the police report work? How did you get your bank to get the money back? I have made all the necessary calls, but it's not looking promising so I am just wondering what your experience was and if you have any advice. Thanks.
