It's a telemarketer from The Long Beach, CA PressTelegram offering a subscription to the paper.

Not sure who is calling from this number. How to stop the calls.

I get phone calls from this number and when I answer, they always hang up.

Anytime you sign up for ANYTHING that you put your number on, magazine subscription forms anything that you are buying and any contest you enter that involves putting your phone number on means that company and ANY of it's affiliates can contact you, legally, this is why you have to continuously update you information on the do not call list. Every time you give you number out anywhere from 1-100 companies get to legally put you back on their list of number they are allowed to call. This is the loophole. This list has devastated the telemarketing industry resulting in lost jobs and can be linked to the economic recession. Think about letting people call you, some of the products and services are worth it and you will be helping all of America with recovering from this horrific economic downturn.

This seems to be the right response in ending this issue.  I made the call and they said they would remove my number within 24 hours.  How does our government let this stuff happen?  (Oh, yea, they simply don't care!)

Mary...Bless you!  I called The Pisa Group and they actually owned up to making the annoying calls.  The gentleman who helped me was very apologetic and friendly.  My number will be removed from all of their databases within 24 hours and I will no longer receive calls from them.  Thank you for posting this information.

I was also receiving daily calls from 314-963-8895.

I called the Pisa Group 314-845-2825 as sugggested by Mary 223.  The man acknowledged that his organization was indeed calling from 314-963-8895 and agreed to take me off the "list".  We'll see what happens...

I got 3 calls from this number today, they left no messages and the 314 area code is from MO? I live in CA!? HOW CAN I GET THEM TO STOP CALLING ME!!!!

Check with your wireless carrier. Verizon lets you instantly block up to 5 telephone numbers immediately. However, you will need to update your block call list every 90 days. It's all very simple.

This company and your local newspaper are behind this - all of these people live locally to either this company or the newspaper company. Look them up on the "property appraiser" page for both this company and your local newspaper company and "conduct a poll" at about 6 pm (dinner time) on their home phone. I like to use one of those cheap virgin wireless cell phones to call them and ask them "how they feel about the telemarketing industry" and if they feel about the "do not call list" I know this does not do any good; but it feels REALLY good after you have fielded a few of these calls.

Why am I getting calls from this number?  I live in rural Pennsylvania (Amish country).  I certainly have no interest in subscribing to a newspaper in Texas.  I can't believe that the newspaper to which I subscribe (The Reading Eagle - a local, very small paper) would sell my name to some marketing group in Texas.  Weird.

Come on knowstuff, telemarketers are the bane of the 21st century, why do you think the federal government got off their seats and started a list to prevent these annoying calls?  I guess people actually buy stuff from these pests, but I know of several elderly who were swindled out of money due to not knowing better and through these callers taking advantage of their naivete.

Good riddance to them.  Perhaps you own a telemarketing firm, but this will cause these people, who in and of themselves are probably not bad people, to find real work.  I seriously doubt that laying off telemarketers hurts anyone other than the callers and the people making money from their actions.

They also call me several time a day. I am going to call my phone company and have the number blocked.  It's easy to say ignore, I do not answer un-known numbers, but the constant calling is irritating when you're at work.

I am getting two to three calls a day from these idiots. Has anyone been successful in getting them to stop?

314-963-8895 shows in Caller Id as "News" but is NOT! Collection Agency Scammers that dig up Paid Off and Closed Accounts from 5-7+ years ago.  They then claim that the account is still delinquent and try to collect the money AGAIN from unsuspecting people. If you give them a credit card number or bank information for a check draft, they will continue to max out your credit card and/or drain your bank account.  The only solution will then be to close out your accounts.  Do NOT fall for this SCAM!!  Do NOT pay Collection Agencies!! Instead ask for PROOF of the debt and then contact the original lender. IF you owe any money, ONLY pay it DIRECTLY to the original lender and save yourself problems from these SCAMMERS!!

Who cares if they keep calling if you don't intend to answer?  It's not difficult for me to hit the ignore button if it's not someone I don't want to talk to.  It's not being a coward; it's just ignoring an annoyance.

Thanks for the information. I called 314-963-8895. It always states the mailbox is full. So I called 314-845-2825. I got a nice person that stated they would take my number off the list in 24 hours. I advised since I was on the Do Not Call list for the last year I refused to get one more call from them. Advised I would report them. As you stated the threat of filing a complaint with the Do Not Call Registry is a joke. I do not believe they do anything at all to these people. The majority of businesses follow the guidelines but there are always others. If we all start flooding the Do Not Call Registry and the BBB we might get these few companies to stop calling. I have not had a new paper delivered to my home in almost 10 years. The phone number has also changed since then. So these people are not telling the truth and yes they are selling it to another company. Please file...please file maybe we can get something done.
