The caller (who had a thick accent) said he was "Paul, calling from the Windows department?", sounding like he was asking me a question. I told him that what he said didn't make sense, and he hung up.

That's awesome! Today I told him we don't have a computer. He said, "How is that possible?" But, next time, I'm going with your strategy. Awesome.

A man called me from this number saying he was from "Windows Technical Department", I asked him to hold on for a second and started my recorder.  I told him that the conversation was being recorded and that he may start again at any time.  He then explained to me that my "Windows machine" was infected with many viruses and would show me how bad it was infected.  I again told him that the phone call was being recorded and asked him for the phone number he was calling from.  He gave me (315) 665-5113 as the number he called from, but he called from (315) 675-5111.  After trying to get me to allow him access to my computer I asked him what IP address was showing that reported the problems to him.  Of course he couldn't give me any answer but continued to say that my "Windows Machine" was infected and that he could "Fix it" right away if I let him have access.  I am a computer tech and knew when I answered that this was a scam so I told him I was a computer tech and that a copy of my recording was being forwarded to my attorney generals office as soon as he hung up.  Silence from his end (except for the background noise of others trying this scam on different people) and then he hung up.  Never let anyone have remote control of your computer unless you know them and you called them for help.  Microsoft doesn't waste their time trying to alert anyone of viruses they may have on their computer.

You need to get a call blocker like this one:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JG02ZEY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00
Or, alternatively add a tone like this to your answering machine message at the front of it.  It tells computer generated calls that it's a disconnected number.  But, keep in mind, it will tell ALL computer generated calls that it's a disconnected number, including your bank, etc.  However, it is said to be effective at ending robo calls.

I have used the SIT tone on my answering machine for two years now and and it does work. I get very few calls from these idiots. Simple to get and even simpler to use. Just google "SIT wav" and download it. Then add it to your answering machine greeting. Make sure to play it before your greeting. Sure it confuses your family and friends but once you explain it they get it.  I am not really worried about my bank calling me. Really cannot remember a time when they have.

This number just called my landline. He said "Hello" and I said "Hi who are you calling for" he paused for a moment and said "I'm William calling from *mumbled*" and I said "No, WHO are you calling for?" and he said he was calling because my computer is having problems. I told him I do not have a computer and he hung up on me.

Second call from these people claiming to be Windows representatives.  Didn't listen to the entire pitch, just told him to F**k off and stop calling me.
