Thank you Steve for your info.  I called this number back ya put on here.  She said she would take me off their list.  I guess I'll have to wait and see.  They were calling for someone who used to have our number.  I told her I've sued one company before because they kept calling for the other people, I don't want to do it again, but if I have to I will.

Even if you owe them money you can send them a request in writing to stop calling you and they are legally obligated to stop calling. If they continue to call they are breaking the law and are subject to penalties, which include paying YOU 250-1000 per time they call.

I got a call from this number saying that they were a company trying to collect a debt from me. I do not have much just in my name and all our bills are up to date or paid off. I looked up the number in the phone book and it came up a home land line. Also if a company was trying to get payment for an actual debt they send you something in writing. The person said their name was Sydney and they were going to assume since I was listening to this message  they were talking to me...it was my machine duh! She said ,from what I could understand that she was from OOC trying to collect a debt for her client. Guess they will have to garnish my wages...LOL I'm a stay at home mom and do not get paid for anything...that should be pretty interesting.
    • Caller: Supposedly OOC/ Julia Pryor was the name on the phone number in the phone book.

I just got a call from this company. (Kathy) She refused to provide their name and demanded that I provide a number for my daughter, which she does not have. Then she demanded that I have her phone them; the funny thing is I know the bill is a bad debt. We had insurance and she was a minor. Methodist did not bill the insurance because she was 18 years old.   Some uneducated accountant erred. They said she was responsible for it. Now six years later they are asking for payment. I was paying over $500 a month in insurance premiums for the kids. One handicap son and the daughter. Now they want to hassel her and are me due to the hospitals screw up.  They are not getting a dime from me and my daughter does not have it. She is married and supporting a family now. She was working three jobs and just got a 35 hour one. I need to vent...Stupid woman who called me needs to slip on a banana and have some bills of her own. I am over 70 years old and she is phoning me. Crazy broad!     I feel better now. As a widow I have no one to vent on.

I answered because it is local for me.  She asked for my birthdate without even telling me why she was calling or anything.  I hung up.  I do not trust callers and would NEVER give them money.  It can be anybody under the sun calling.

They asked for Richard Cole and I asked them who they represent and they got evasive, at which point I told them to move on and hung up. They were trying to get me to divulge my personal information. I have been informed by the Fed's that there is several other people using my SSN which makes me very uneasy. Stolen Identity, I,m not telling anyone anything on the phone or online. I tell anyone I don't recognize to keep the correspondence limited to writing and keep a notebook by the phone and if they keep calling you, write down the number date and time, then sue them.

Not true. That is only true if it is someone soliciting or selling something.  If it is to collect a debt they are allowed to call all they want.

In the absence of knowledge of circumstances to the contrary, a debt collector shall assume that the convenient time for communicating with a consumer is after 8 o'clock antimeridian and before 9 o'clock postmeridian, local time at the consumer's location...

I have done collections for over 25 years and you are allowed to request that the collector stop calling you and there are restrictions and laws that protect the debtor.  If you make a formal request then the collector has to stop calling but they will also view that as a refusal to pay and can proceed with legal actions against the debtor.

Sorry Josh.  Not true!  Even debt collectors can be sued for harassment.
If a debt collector is asked to stop calling they have to.  Also, note that more than one call per day is considered harassment as well.
