How could you be garnished on a 20 year old bill?  That's well past the SOL for any state so far as I'm aware.  Did you simply default out on the original court action?  Just seems odd, that's all.

I got a call from someone named Joy today at 11:04 am. She was trying to verify information on a family member for an "account" but refused to tell me what account. She got very irate when she would ask me a question and I told her I wouldn't give her any information until she told me what this was regarding. She said she would lose her job if she told me. Really? I work for a bank, her questions were public information but I don't have to verify anything (especially when she won't tell me what account she's calling about). She ended her phone call by yelling at me and telling me that she will tell "them" I refused to give her any information. Whomever "them" may be...

They must have contacted them and acknowledged the debt. There is a lot of companies buying old debt for pennies on the dollar and taking advantage of people who don't know there is a SOL on debt.

Person called and asked for me. Said it was a Personal Matter that would take 10-15 minutes. Told "John" I was on my way out the door and what did this concern? He said if I gave him my birthdate he could tell me. I just said Absolutely Not and hung up. He called both my cell and my home phone numbers.

I just received a call and the lady said her name and said it was about personal business. She kept trying to get me to verify personal info but I refused because every time I tried to find out what company she was calling from she would only give me the collection company name and not the company she was collecting for. I told here all she had do was tell me and I would verify but all she did was say have nice day and hang up.

Hospitals have 1 year to bill you.  No more.  I would contact the Attorney General in your state to verify and submit them for attempting to collect "junk debt"  Debt that was paid or written off near the 7 year mark...many unscrupulous companies attempt to collect thinking you will have lost the records or not remember.

Thank you for the very interesting and informed reply. However, one time I was told when I agreed to a payment plan for my hospital bill (-My husband and I are both on SS Disability and Medicare and supplemental Advantage insurance and will still be paying the hospital $50.00 per month until we die-) that I agreed to any attempt on their part to collect the debt. (Not the exact wording but close) Have you ever heard that?

You're incorrect.  Due to FDCPA law, if you tell a collection agency to stop calling you, they have to stop calling you.

This is a debt collection agency attempting to collect unpaid medical debt.  They, at first, seemed somewhat polite and professional.  They asked me for the date of birth,  to confirm that I am really me, then explained my situation, why and how much...

Once I told them that I was paying the hospital directly for my unpaid debt, and not them, they then attempted to intimidate me into paying my debt directly to IMC immediately.  They first claimed that if I paid the hospital directly the hospital would just refer me back to IMC (not true).

15 minutes later, after which I DID paid the hospital directly, I called them back to notify them that the dept has been paid in full.  They told me that I should not have done that because it can take up to 30 days for their client (the hospital) to notify IMC that the debt has been paid in full.  They claimed that this may potentially impact my credit report (Don't they have to send me a letter first?).  They are careful with the words they choose, like "may" and "up-to", and potentially.  They then got somewhat combative and started requesting personal information, employer name, home address, etc.. I refused and they claimed that they are required, by law, to ask these questions. They kept saying this phrase... 'required by law'.  They may be required to ask, but WE ARE NOT REQUIRED TO ANSWER.  Just another tool used for intimidation.  She then asked me if they can setup auto-dial (who in their right mind would ok auto-dial?), after which I hung up.

I could not imagine what it would be like to work at a place like this.  Do these employees really make that much money to make this job worth it?  Or do these people just have black souls?

They are not allowed to call if you have instructed them to stop.  Once they have been instructed to stop calling they MUST stop. They can send all the mail they want but cannot call after being told to stop.

    Annoying callers
I was getting calls from multiple collectors after having my income interrupted. It started only 7 days after being late.  I installed an app on my android phone called true caller. It automatically refuses the call and logs the number.  You never hear it ring. So right now they can call me all day and it doesn't bother me.  They'll get paid as soon as I can resume paying.

    SCAM!!!!
These people called me over a disputed medical bill from 2012. I thought we had finaly worked it out in 2013 that I was NOT liable.  I get a letter from them Oct 2015 with all of those same charges brought up again from 2012 after not hearing a word for two years.  The first rep I spoke to LIED and said I signed a form saying I was liable, her boss then admitted that was false yet, tried to to say that I was still responsible.  I called where the bill originated from and they said it was taken care of and I was at a zero balance and they dont even use IMC Credit anymore and havent for years!!!! WATCH OUT for this!!!!  CROOKS!!!!!
