penalunatage
penalunatage - csgThese people call at 8:01am and after 8pm. At least 4 times a day, never leaving a message. Finally I got aggravated enough that I called them back. I told them to remove my number from their list and all future correspondence was to be done through the mail. She was rude and kept saying she said things that she didnt. I finally told her to remove my number and if they called again I would report them to the FTC. She hung up on me. According to the FTC if they are told not to contact you by phone, only by mail, that they are required to do so. They have to respect your privacy.

- --Got this call at 8:17 am but wasn't able to pick up the phone in time. Searched the number and came up with tons of complaints about it. I have never had direct tv and never never never ever will have it either. A couple of days ago someone in India was calling me on behalf of the Dish Network trying to sell a subscription--I wonder if there is a connection between the two and now this CBE number is being used as a bounce forwarder for salespeople in India to bug everyone? A few months ago I was being bombarded multiple times a week with people using sleazy switchboard numbers such as this one trying to sell Dish Network subscriptions. Looks like they are coming back again. BTW I am in the do not call registry but that does not stop any of these pushy people from calling me to sell subscriptions even though they are meant to use the do not call registry.
- annoyedThis number called me several times a day for a few days in a row and never left a message. Finally, I decided to call back and they were looking for Raymond which isn't my name (nor do I know anyone named Raymond) ... they took me off their list. They could have listened to my voicemail and very easily would have realized that I am not the dude they are looking for.

I could I stop this stupid people from calling my number? - HerreraThey wanted to know if we can receive a package at our po box? I told them it depends on who they are and what they are sending?

- DonnaThese people call me all the time. I have told them I don't owe any money and asked them to stop calling. Direct TV is my current supplier and am not in default with them and never have been, but they keep calling anyway. When I do answer the phone at all hours of the day, they hang up on me. It feels like harassment to me.
- CBE is a monsterIt took me a while to read through all the posts but I got some really good info. I really liked the one from 16 Jan 09...I think that I will use that!!! Also I agree that NO ONE should give out ANY personal info. to someone who won't answer general questions(i.e. what company are you calling from, what is YOUR FULL name) I have a restraining order against someone and I don't know if this could be them trying to find me...I'd rather be safe that DEAD!! When I moved I gave DTV my forwarding address so if this really is them they know how to contact me by mail and email..I told my lawyer about the calls and he said that I SHOULD NEVER CONFIRM ANY INFO. I also gave him the info that I got for Mr. Scott West on this site. I guess DTV doesn't care about their reputation if they are linked with the company..Word of mouth is a powerful thing so spread the word about CBE and DTV

This pales in comparison to the MILLIONS of jobs which were outsourced by the Bush administation.
Iowa Based CBE Group to Lose Jobs as Obama, Braley, and Boswell Cave to Union Pressure
Friday, March 6, 2009 Iowa-based CBE Group is a privately owned accounts-receivable management company. One of its clients is the federal government, who uses the CBE Group and two other similar companies to collect delinquent taxes.
These companies were awarded government contracts in 2006, which allowed them to attempt to collect back-taxes that the IRS was not actively pursuing. CBE and the other firms are compensated by keeping 22 to 24 percent of the delinquent tax money they collect.
While the contracts were awarded in 2006, full implementation of the program was to occur in 2008. With a new, union-friendly administration in place, the National Treasury Employees Union has successfully lobbied Congress to include language in the Omnibus Appropriations Act that would do away with this program.
If the bill is passed, at least 60 jobs will be lost. When CBE was awarded the contracts, company president Tom Peneluna said that the program would need to employ 200 people once fully operational.
Last week, Congressman Braley and Congressman Boswell, who represent areas where CBE Group has offices in the state, failed to convince their collogues to remove the provision from the bill that would eliminate the program. Both Braley and Boswell then voted for the bill. As the bill made its way to the Senate, Senator Grassley and Senator Harkin asked Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner to spare the program and allow it to be fully implemented.
Last night, Grassley sent out a memo saying that Geithner told him that the program would be eliminated.
Grassley released the following statement, “The administration has decided that after spending nearly a trillion dollars in the stimulus bill to keep people working across the country, they are going to cut a program that provides jobs to hundreds of people during the middle of a recession, including 60 in Iowa. It’s hard to believe that after worrying so much about keeping people employed, the administration has chosen this route. I told the Secretary that they could hire all the people they wanted for the NTEU, but the IRS was never going to get the money that was owed to the federal treasury because IRS policy is to not go after debts under a certain amount.”
The National Treasury Employees Union has been opposed to the program since its conception. They argued since these companies are paid based on the money they collect, they will use much more aggressive tactics than IRS employees. However, as Grassley pointed out, the IRS was never even going to attempt to collect these types of back taxes. The NTEU is the largest federal-sector union in the country.

Looking To Save, IRS Stops Outsourcing Collections

IRS Chief: Agency Works With Taxpayers In Trouble. Obama Cracks Down On Government Contractors
All Things Considered, March 6, 2009 · The Internal Revenue Service will stop using private contractors to collect delinquent taxes. Instead, the government plans to hire more of its own collection agents.
That's one small reversal of a trend toward government outsourcing that accelerated during the Bush administration. Last year, the government spent almost $500 billion on contractors.
For the past couple of years, the IRS has been using private bill collectors to go after delinquent taxpayers. The contractors work on commission and keep up to $1 for every $4 they bring in.
IRS employees have long argued they could do the same job more cheaply in-house, and independent observers agree. But Colleen Kelley, who heads the IRS workers' union, says that during the Bush administration, saving money wasn't the point.
"This was an initiative by the previous administration to privatize federal jobs," Kelley says. "It was never about how the work could be done at the least cost and most efficiently for taxpayers. If that had been the criteria from the beginning, this program would never have gotten started."
As government contracts go, the IRS project was small potatoes: in the tens of millions of dollars. But this week, President Obama ordered government-wide changes in contracting, saying that could save taxpayers some $40 billion a year.
"We will stop outsourcing services that should be performed by the government and open up the contracting process to small businesses," Obama said. "We will end unnecessary and no-bid and cost-plus contracts that run up a bill that is paid by the American people."
Contracts with the two IRS bill collection companies expire Friday, and the government says they won't be renewed. The IRS says keeping the collection function in-house will not only be more cost-effective, but it also will provide more flexibility for cash-strapped taxpayers, because IRS employees can offer more payment options than the private contractors could.
This year, the agency is planning to hire more than 1,000 additional agents to beef up its collection effort. The contract employees who have been doing the work will be invited to apply for the jobs.
