- LizaThey are calling every day, leaving strange messages or hanging up when you try to talk; they are trying to reach someone else even though my voicemail clearly states MY name, not the person they are looking for. Called them to fix it, got a rude person stating they are CBE who help with financial matters, and they don't know how they got my number. They promised to never call again, we'll see.
- LizCalling everyday multiple times and the person they want to speak to is not living with me and they will not leavce a message but call constantly.

- Hounded by 319-274-1904I have received approxmently 15 calls or more from this number since June 24, 2009. Today is July 22, 2009. They never leave a message. This past weekend my husband answered my phone and the person on the other end of the call told him she was a friend of mine, Colleen, that I had worked with her in the past.She just wanted to catch up with me since she hasn't seen me in a long time and to have me call her. My husband did give me the message, I thought it was strange as I have never worked with anyone with the name Colleen. When I checked the number it was this same number that has been hounding me. Isan't there a rule about this? DO they have the right to say they are an old friend? They never leave a message, how do I know that they are not someone attempting to obtain my personal infromation for thier personal gain.

- 319-274-1904 calling dailyI have not received a final bill from Direct TV and I have a collection company calling 2 or more times a day? Send me a paper bill because I will never answer my phone for you I do not give out my info especially on an incoming call. I find it ludicrous that I have not even received a bill from Direct TV yet I have been sent to a collection agency, Direct TV will never have me as a customer again. YOU HEAR THAT DIRECT TV...YOU ARE LOSING FUTURE CUSTOMERS.

- Patcalling 6 to 7 times a day starting at 8am until 9pm
started about a month ago, no one there when I answer.
never had direct tv so don't know whey they are bothering me. - KellieI am in the process of going through arbitration with DirectTV for charges that were supposedly incurred on my DVR box in Sept. and Oct. 2007. They have FORCED 2 charges out of my account and I had to file a fraudulent charge with my bank so they could no longer force any more charges through. I have gotten my attorney involved in this whole mess, all b/c they want to try and charge me for movies over a year and a half later. I've also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau - I suggest all of you do the same so they can't continue to get away with their lousy business practice.

- mme replies to bond19822001Ask for their mailing address. Write a letter stating that they are no longer to call you and that this is not your bill as you did not sign a contract w/ them.
If they call again, tape the phone call and then report them to the state attorney general for violation of the fair debt collection act.
Yes, people w/bills have rights, too. - Brian replies to bond19822001There was very recently an article in the NY Times about how collection agencies are going after debts left behind by the recently deceased, and I understand it no one is under any obligation to pay a deceased person's debt. You might be able to find the article on the Times' website ... it was within the last couple of months.
- Nowe what? replies to DennisJust started getting calls from them today. Canceled DTV when they renigged on an agreement. Calling me cell phone no less.
Best way to stop ANY unwanted calls is to get their mailing address and send them a certified letter stating that you are to be contacted by mail only. When they fail to comply... (and they will) you have gr4ounds for a claim with the FTC. - MelissaI soon as I answer it disconnects, I call back and I can't get through. So I don't know who is calling me, although I have an open dispute with Direct TV, which I agree is a very unscrupulous company.
- trina replies to Dennisi got a call from this number at 1:52 thanks for letting me know its DTV lol. now im glad i didnt answer it
- Donna319-274-1904 have been calling me for a month at 3-4 times a day.
It is a recording and harrassing.
I have no idea what this is about. I want it stopped. - Justin Z replies to EdWow good info. Thanks. They just tried to call at 9pm on Tuesday.
- Just another Idot of Direct TVThese people call every 3-4 days and refuse to co-operate with explaining who they are BEFORE I say who I am. This website gave me all the info I needed and for that I say God bless!
Direct TV is trying to collect for something that they assured me was taken care of at the time I pulled their plug. Seems as though times are tough and they don't mind alienating previous customers. My promise is that having no TV is better than re-signing with unscruplious corporations as I have found (and it looks as though many others have as well) with Direct TV. Shoot me if I do re-sign! Dear {insert name of collector or company},
I am writing in response to your (letter or phone call) dated {insert date}, (copy enclosed) because I do not believe I owe what you say I owe.
This is the first I've heard from you, or any other company on this matter therefore, in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Section 809(b): Validating Debts:
(b) If the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period described in subsection (a) that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, or that the consumer requests the name and address of the original creditor, the debt collector shall cease collection of the debt, or any disputed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of the debt or any copy of a judgment, or the name and address of the original creditor, and a copy of such verification or judgment, or name and address of the original creditor, is mailed to the consumer by the debt collector.
I respectfully request that you provide me with the following information:
(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) Provide a verification or copy of any judgment (if applicable);
(4) Proof that you are licensed to collect debts in (insert name of your state).
Be advised that I am fully aware of my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. For instance, I know that:
Because I have disputed this debt in writing within 30 days of receipt of your dunning notice, you must obtain verification of the debt or a copy of the judgment against me and mail these items to me at your expense;
you cannot add interest or fees except those allowed by the original contract or state law.
You do not have to respond to this dispute but if you do, any attempt to collect this debt without validating it, violates the FDCPA.
Also be advised that I am keeping very accurate records of all correspondence from you and your company including recording all phone calls and I will not hesitate to report violations of the law to my State Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau.
I have disputed this debt; therefore, until validated you know your information concerning this debt is inaccurate. Thus, if you have already reported this debt to any credit-reporting agency (CRA) or Credit Bureau (CB) then, you must immediately inform them of my dispute with this debt. Reporting information that you know to be inaccurate or failing to report information correctly violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act § 1681s-2. Should you pursue a judgment without validating this debt, I will inform the judge and request the case be dismissed based on your failure to comply with the FDCPA.
Finally, if you do not own this debt, I demand that you immediately send a copy of this dispute letter to the original creditor so they are also aware of my dispute with this debt.

Please, send a certified letter to CBE Group at:
Corporate Office and Operational Center
131 Tower Park Drive, Suite 100
Waterloo, IA 50701.
Explain your financial situation and ask they do not attempt to contact you again regarding the debt (also send to the company that hired them). Site the federal laws that prevent creditors from making harassing phone calls. Then, once you get the certified mail return, answer the phone from CBE and log the phone call. Tell them you sent a certified letter citing federal harassment laws. keep logging the calls and keep telling them they are violiting federal harassment laws. if enough people file law suits, this company will have to start compling with federal law. I would like to start a class-action lawsuit. If you would like to be apart of a group lawsuit, please post here.- Caller: collection company
- Edward V Riley,JRTheir call tactics are reprehensible. They are collecting, they say, for a delinquent student loan. First, I paid it off 10 years ago, and second they're already taking money out of my disability check. Yes, I'm on disability and they're taking $76 a month out of my check. I never authorized this and Disability services just tacked it on without any questions.
If that isn't enough, they call me daily to harass me about paying it off. They call the money taken from the disability check as involuntary payment and doesn't count....What?
The callers are usually very rude and obnoxious. You can't find out what their group stands for(I had to look it up myself). They sound very unprofessional and remind me of a criminal shake down.- Caller: CBE
