    Someone needs to stop this phone abuse. The person they are calling about is not at this number and is an EX. Very upsetting for the child that hears this!
    I did not write down the callers name. it could have been Civil Investion Group? I have since earsed this message.
     They had a restraining order and gave a case #.
    Im glad everyone is putting their comments on this site so maybe something will be done.

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
    Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

    Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

    Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

    Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

    Got a recorded call telling me I was part of court case where I needed to show up, there is restraining order, blah, blah, blah.  I tried to call back twice and both times I got another recording stating that my call cannot be processed at this time.  There are a lot of complaints about this particular phone number.

    Scam, I'm contacting Veteran Affairs and the FBI. Between one of those two organizations, results have to occur. I haven't done anything illegal, but thought  why not see what was behind this. I'm bookmarking this page to see what information emerges. If I come up with something, I will do the same. Thank you

    I just got the same message on my voice mail this afternoon from 336-283-0327. Said my name, that I was named in a court action suit, gave their number, and an affidavit and claim number stating I was being named in a litigation with a restraining order. I had to listen to the message several times as I could not believe it. I work with children so I thought maybe some parent is going after another one and dragging me into it. Googled around and found this website. Thank you so much I feel so much better. I did call the number, its Global something. Pressed number 2 as instructed and you all were right, couldnt connect it. SCAM!!! thank you for this website.

    Read my previous post and the press release issued by the FTC. They cannot sue you without first proving that you legitimately owe the debt.

    Same as all above except the call went to my parents in AZ and I live in NM.  I sent the following letter to the North Carolina's Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division at:

    http://www.ncdoj.gov/complaint.aspx

    My complaint read:

    To Whom It May Concern, The company with the above listed telephone number has been leaving recorded messages with my parents (who live in Arizona) regarding a legal action against me. When I attempt to call the number from the recording, it indicates the option is not available and automatically disconnects the call. My parents have received this recorded message twice. I live in New Mexico and have no residential status in Arizona. I have looked up the company's phone number and have found the company's name and the number as being located in North Carolina. I am concerned this is an attempt to gain information illicitly from either my parents or myself. I have no legal proceedings against me and the company does not seem to be reachable by the information they give on the recording. I am requesting your help in determining what this company is trying to accomplish by calling a number for me which I do not reside at, and to see if others have filed the same complaints or have had the same concerns.

    Good luck everyone!  I hope something can be done about this type of grotesque harassment!

    Received a call from someone claiming they were with the Civil Investigations Unit and that I being sued, had a case number and a restraining order. To please forward this information to my attorney and that if I failed to show up in court possible other actions could be filed. This is just ludicrous seeing that I don't have the foggiest idea of what they are talking about. How they got my number is a mystery as well! This has to stop!
