- Jen BThey will not stop calling my cell phone. When I answer no one answers me. Stop calling me!
- Better to be informed| 1 replyJust so you all know, if you pick up the phone and say hello your number becomes a "hot" number
Meaning your number goes on a list that can be sold for a higher price. It’s a list that contains numbers where a live person is known to answer.
Answering machine numbers are on a "medium" list. This is a possibility list.
Non answered calls are on a "bum" list. This list is called a filler list because it can be lumped with any of the above to create a list with maximum possibilities.
These lists are compiled by shady people who work in areas that can get numbers easily. It's a huge market and most employees can pad their pockets with a list of 100 numbers or more. The hotter the list, the more money you can get per list. These lists are then sold like laundering money to reputable companies who do not know how they were received.
Places that get these numbers: some jerk in the post office of Medford, NY is selling numbers and forwarding addresses, most likely because he either feels he doesn't make enough, is mad at his job, or is just trying to make a few more bucks to feed his kids. Either way, it’s happening everywhere.
Cell phone companies, outside sources recruit these people each day to fill those lists. Usually, it’s a friend of a friend of a friend. The land line phone company has thousands of people working for them who know how it works. But now the cell phone companies list is worth more.
These lists are not compiled by the companies themselves, neither is it their policy to do so, these lists are compiled by schmucks who work for them. NOT all employees are bad, but there are a few who do that would not think twice of making an extra buck or two off your number.
Do not put your trust in the "do not call list". It's worthless.
How do you think unpublished numbers, even if it's a day or two after you changed your number, get in the hands of someone calling to sell you something, ask for money for a charitable org,. etc?
In our land of make believe you are safe... Trust no one but yourself.- Caller: 402-952-4444
- ctottenI recieved a phone call from this number and I did not answer it, but I recently opened a new bank account and they told me that somebody may call me within a few days of my visit to survey how my visit was. Thanks to this forum I knew who the number was, even though it was after the fact.

- StaceyThis is stupid and childish!
- IDontPickUpI got this call on my home phone for some reason that I have never even given out. That doesn't piss me off ... what does piss me off is that they have the same effin phone number as my cell except for its in another area code so I get a [***] ton of wrong numbers because they call peoples houses, hang up, but people see the number on their caller ID. People don't look at the area code, and they come calling *my* cell phone calling me names, cussing at me, making threats against me, etc. This happens daily. I wish they'd just change their effin number.
- IDontPickUpAnd yes I had this phone number long before they came around because I had the same cell number for years and then all of a sudden I get tons of wrong numbers from angry people tell me to stop calling them and hanging up. I tell them I haven't called you! And theyre like yea u did dont lie. And I'm like dude I swear I didnt. But htey dont bother to look to see its a 402 area code.

- Get wiseThey are a collection agency using the guise of a poll to get info on the nbr of people, ages, etc in your house under that phone. They believe the person they are looking for in regards debt collection is at that number. Also when you answer they are tracking the occupants through voice recognition software that they have been using for years to track people.

- E Moller| 3 repliesThis number keeps calling my cell phone.
- Caller: Did not disclose
- E Moller replies to E Moller| 2 repliesPS. They were not a collection company when they called me. They refused to reveal who they were representing.
- Wrong replies to E MollerThey are a collection agency. You believe them because they say something else? They are Gallup Poll INC located in San Francisco..... Look them up on the better business bureau web page.
- fooled again replies to Better to be informedThis number has nothing to do with the real Gallop Poll organization. This nbr belongs to a collection agency !!!!!!! It might even belong to RPM Receivable Performance Management located in Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Wash. Collection Agencies tend to lie on their caller id's. Rest assured the number you call back on will be properly routed using the "robots" of the communication servers to their real office locations.
- me, myself and my phone aren't answeringI am never going to answer the phone for numbers such as yours. Does not matter if you hide the number or not. Caller ID allows me to ignore. You can call and call and call. It will not matter. I know this is your job but that does not mean I ever have to answer.
And funny.... I tried to post (on a different message board about Gallup... it was like this one, about unwanted calls)
Anyway, I tried to post and the darn thing had the words for security so curved together you could not read them! Then, The words would not come up again and I could not post. I think it is very funny that a telemarketer is worried about spammers. Aren't you in the same business??
AT LEAST the code was readable here!- Caller: Gallup 402-952-4444
- Paul replies to RonThis is the first time I got this phone number, so I don't know why they would call and not leave a message
- charlesi got a call from this person and they left no voice mail dont know who this is but they are creeping me out!!
- Chris| 1 replyI've been called by this number multiple times every day for a week now.
Here is what I'm doing and suggest for all: I got a free Google voice number
and set it to forward to my cell ( you can have it forward to your home, office, or all phones) and this is the only phone # I give out to businesses now. When someone calls your Google voice # it rings whatever phone(s) you've designated. You can answer, listen to the message they are leaving & decide to pick up, or let it go to voicemail. The best part - you can call block any number(s) so they can call you for all eternity and your phone will never ring. BONUS - works well for annoying friends, relatives, and co-workers. No, I don't work for Google, I just love using technology to beat technology, especially when it's free.- Caller: The Gallup Poll
