SWAT Team Raids Building In Timeshares Bust
3 In Jail After Timeshare Business Raided
Three people accused of running a bogus timeshare office in Orlando are being held in jail Thursday. (02/03/11)
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Two people accused of running a bogus timeshare office in Orlando are being held in jail Thursday.
SWAT officers raided Time Share Express in the 2000-block of S. Hiawassee Road (see map) in Veranda Park Wednesday in reference to an ongoing economic crimes investigation related to illegal activity involving the sales of timeshares, officers said.
Investigators said when officers stormed in Wednesday, employees began throwing cell phones and paperwork out of the office window.
Investigators said workers called the owners of time shares and claimed to have buyers. The owners would send money to sell the time share but after the money was transferred, the buyers would disappear.
Orlando Police arrested Michael Malgesini and Dominion Crupi after detectives spent hours examining paperwork at the time share office.
Crupi said, "Get away from me," when WFTV's Ryan Hughes asked him if he was a part of the alleged illegal activity.
Earlier in the day 11 people were detained and questioned including Malgesini and Crupi.
Tony Graham witnessed the raid.
"I heard the battering ram go through the door, walked outside, probably 50 to 60 police," Graham said.
Police said each fake transaction would cash in $500 to $1,000.
"You do see some pretty suspicious people coming in and out of that building," said Aaron Thomas an eyewitness.
Orlando Police also searched and hauled away a BMW as part of the investigation.
Malgesini and Crupi are charged with scheming to defraud and unlicensed telemarketing.
Two other employees were arrested on unrelated charges.
The names of the other people detained were not released Wednesday night but police told WFTV charges are likely to be filed against them.
It is the second raid on a time share telemarketing business in Orlando in less than one month. The police department told WFTV that Wednesday's investigation involves a scam similar to one that was busted in downtown Orlando in January (read that report), but involves a different group.

SWAT Raids Two Orlando Timeshare Businesses
Police raided two timeshare businesses right next to each other, and both have the same owners. (02/14/11)
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Two neighboring timeshare telemarketing operations were raided on Monday, Orlando police told WFTV. A SWAT team executed a search warrant on the two South Magnolia Avenue.
The search warrants indicated that the businesses had the same owners. Police said the company bilked hundreds of people all over the country out of at least $1 million over the last six to eight months.
Orlando firefighters were backed by a swarm of Orlando police investigators with the economic and property crimes units. They used a sledge hammer and a crow bar to rip the door off at the nondescript office space that was no bigger than a studio apartment.
Warrant information confirms they were looking for Lisa Canada and Max Chilson of Lake Mary. Instead, they found boxes of files, paper shredders, mafia posters and enough computers for 15 employees. Investigators said they were operating a sham timeshare company under two different names: "M and l Marketing Concepts" and "Maximum Properties."
"It's a huge rip off!" said Barbara Jones of the Orlando Police Department.
Investigators said, somehow, they got the names of people who owned timeshares at places like Disney, Wyndham and Westgate resorts, and offered to sell the properties for them. Police said they convinced the customers to send between $1,800 and $2,200 for closing costs, but they pocketed the money and timeshares were never sold.
Investigators found a board inside that shows exactly how much they were making: $82,000 just last week.
"That's small potatoes. I've gone into rooms where they are making $200,000 a week," consumer investigator Sasha Velez told WFTV.
WFTV found that Orlando and Palm Beach counties are hot spots are for the illegal set-ups.
"How big of a problem is this in Orlando?" WFTV reporter Daralene Jones asked Velez.
"It's huge." Velez said. "We have over 40 to 50 cases unlicensed right now that we are looking into. That's just the ones we know of."
Investigators also recovered $169,000 from nine different accounts at Bank of America.- Caller: Timeshare Resale Fraud

- scammed2manytimes replies to RRR| 6 repliesI just got a call from this number. I didn't answer because I was on the other line. After looking it up on here, I'm glad I didn't. Timeshare resellers, in general, are a scam and I will NEVER trust any of them. They all rip you off up front while making broken promises. I can't tell you how much money we have tied up in trying to sell the timeshare we owned. NOT ONE OFFER IN OVER 5 YEARS!!!!! After seeing "Happy Customer's" post, I thought the exact same thing as RRR...she obviously works for them. All of that fluff is how they get ya in the beginning. DON'T BELIEVE THAT CRAP!!!!!!!!! They're lying and don't care if it is taking food out of your kids' mouths or setting your existing bills behind. I'm not saying to do this, just telling what we did. I wish I had known this a LONG time ago. We just quit paying the payments on it because we couldn't keep up with the payments or the taxes. The taxes is what kills you. They started off low and climbed at least $100 every year (no kidding). I know, you're saying "what about your credit?". I worried about that too...come to find out, MOST lenders don't take that debt into consideration when applying for a loan. I guess they are aware of the scamming going on. We didn't have any problem getting a loan afterwards (Talk to a lawyer or banker before doing this). Anyway, after a year or so, they stopped contacting us and now we are free of the darn thing....FINALLY FREE!!!!!!! I felt like an elephant just fell off my shoulders. NEVER EVER BUY A TIMESHARE UNLESS YOU'RE LOADED....PASS IT ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW.
- scammed2manytimes replies to The Truth| 2 repliesFirst, I'd like to say that, personally, I've never dealt with THL, BUT by the comments from some of their employees on here, ask yourself, Does this sound like a reputable company? Would a reputable company allow this kind of advertisement? Insults? Fake comments pretending to be real customers?
Now, from The Truth: "If you have one and do not want it anymore, simply stop paying the M&T. Eventually your resort will offer you a deed in lieu of foreclosure since liens and foreclosures take forever and cost the resort more money in court costs."
I just want to say that I can verify this. We did this very thing and wish we had done it a LONG time ago. Also, "SafetyTM" is right to a point. They started out asking for something like $1100 to take over the deed. They sent about 3-4 more and every time, it lowered, until it was $0. We sent it in immediately.
I also want to mention that when we asked our "deed holder" to buy it back or just take it back, they just laughed and said, "we don't do that". That's funny...YOU DID!!! You know that Timeshare Hotlist is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and they are a member of the BBB they also work with Century 21 and are mentioned in several magazines. I have my listing with them and have not had any problems I can go into the office and speak to my representative one on one if I have any questions. - travel_ike@yahooThank all of you who made comments on this page for it helped me make up my mind! I have a YTB travel agency (travelwithike.com-- [cheap plug]) and I'm a new timeshare owner (purchased a foreclosure in January 2011/very good deal) and was thinking about renting my timeshare for this year because I have 3 certificates for 1 week (various promotions) each in or around the same area I can use this year.
I was contacted by Christian (407) 218-7297 (who appeared to be a very nice individual) whom I told I wanted to do some research before speaking with him about renting my timeshare out for the year; he was ok with that but told me to go to their website (Timesharehotlist.com). He also said something VERY strange when I told him that I received approx. 8 calls from other businesses who also sold timeshares; "we are the [only] reputable timeshare organization in the business and the best." He also said "we can rent it with an option to buy" even though I said I only wanted to rent it for one year only- I thought it was very rude.
Well I looked up Timesharehotlist.com and found very little information about them but found more information about other businesses such as ebay, craigslist and redweek (where other legal organizations and groups said they were very good. Then I found this site and read a great deal about the opinions and direct dealings with Timesharehotlist.com; much more bad then good as you can see. Because of all who commented I will just bank my week and go from here; I purchased a timeshare more for Interval International and Ice Platinum for other stays instead of a week in Flordia. If anyone what to purchase a week in Orlando Fl. let me know. Thanks, Ike (e-mail address above)- Caller: Timesharehotlist.com
- Fritz replies to Upset CustomerI could not agree more. The BBB gives them little credibility. I am going to write the Attorney General as to their scam.
- Pablo replies to Timeshare Hot List EmployeeThat's exactly the point! Timeshare sales people will lie through their teeth just to make the sale! Generally speaking, timeshare has gotten away with taking advantage of people for way to long! The industry falls in just this side of organized crime! You really should find a different job! Or maybe they have you brainwashed into thinking that it's a wonderful profession. It's truly stealing from people! You are trained to manipulate people's emotions into believing that you a selling something wonderful. Well it's not, and never will be.
- Anonym replies to Timeshare Hot List Employee| 2 repliesanother words, you will LIE to get a sale which means that THL is in it just to rip people off. You are just a dishonest person and a LIAR.
- ScameeI recently received calls from THL wanting to rent my timeshare. They mentioned that they work with
customers that want to rent for PGA Tournaments. They mentioned that their inventory of rental properties was low and they could rent mine " almost immediately". All I had to do was give them the upfront fee that would be slightly more than the one time rental income, then every thing there after would be pure profit to me. I would receive the rental income (via overnite deposit) as soon as I made the rental contract with their customer - so I would get most of my investment back before the due date on my credit card statement. They gave the impression they were talking with my timeshare company (on the other line) at the sme time they were talking with me. My timeshare company said they don"t talk with outside renting companies???- Caller: THL
