- Mr. DWe received a call from Russell from 410-965-1234, concerning our application for SSA benefits. He asked that we call him back at 877-593-3955, at a 5 digit extension. We did apply online for benefits, but have not yet had an opportunity to call him back.
- Caller: US Government
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- Mr. DThis really is the Social Security Administration office. The SSA staff calls out from this number. They leave a message if you don't answer, announcing their name and the name of the person they are trying to contact. Then they instruct you to call back at 877-593-3955, and they give you a 5 digit extension number to reach them on. Usually the call relates to an application for Social Security benefits that has been submitted to them.
- Caller: US Government (caller ID)
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- Mr. D replies to D. M.I'd really like to know how you, "...knew it wasn't." Are you clairvoyant? It really is them. Ask yourself if you or someone living with you (same phone number) has recently applied for SSA benefits.
- aNonnyMoose replies to AlfonsoWRONG, friend. They already have that info if they'really calling you. How stupid are some people? Simple logic :
They call a number associated with a SS recipient, therefore it's also connected to their SSN. They shouldn't need to ask your info before patching you to a requested or likely relevant to case office.
I suspect people here and elsewhere making up explanations as to why this or that unsolicited or unexpected communication is supposedly, by their claims, a legit agency are in fact working for them. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out these fools are trolling thru such sites deepening their scam traps with fake counterarguments.
BTW, you scanners can all go die. Seriously, just do the world a favor and drop dead. You are scum. - ALS replies to Michael| 1 replyAsk yourself this question :
If the government has all our info documented in one place or other already, why the hell do we EVERYONE have to give any of it to them again? It the Internet age, where crossreferencing data is easy, especially for agencies needing no warrant or who have open carte Blanche warrant as matter of course to do their jobs. Any government agency making you resubmit info filed elsewhere in their system is either lazy as sin or bordering on tyrannical lyrics ensuring rote, unquestioned obedience ( they snap their fingers, we obey like PavlovIan dogs ) - ALS replies to Anonymous| 1 replyYeah, right. Like the "OIG" tacked into that URL isn't a sure sign of the old "trying to help clarify" scam. That, or the government needs to streamline their operations to decrease bogus-looking and other redundant sites, IDs, etc
- Mike-in-MD replies to ALSAlmost all government agencies use addons to the base domain name for different functions within the agency. It is called subnetting. This helps to direct traffic to the correct site and reduces traffic to the top level site. The important part is the "ssa.gov" which is the home domain for the entire Social Security Administration. While it is good to be vigilant against scams, in this case the URL is a legitimate URL for the Office of the Inspector General within the Social Security Administration. You can verify this for yourself by going to the main SSA website and typing in "Inspector General" in the search box.
- DA| 1 replyI am a social security attorney. This number is a legitimate phone number from Social Security ODAR (outgoing - the return phone number will be something else). I can't say whether or not there are some spoofers out there also per some of the comments. However, that is a number I get calls on from their administrative law court.
- Caller: Social Security
- CashMoneyZero2017This must be a scam I got a call from the same number (410) 965-1234 and they called me at 5:05 PM, 5:09 PM, 5:46 PM and even on the "Recording" it says our offices are closed at 5:00 PM for the day. Then why did I get a call after 5:00 PM ? SCAM !!!!!!!!!! I will be sure to send this Information to the Local Law Enforcement they would be very interested in knowing this information.
- Caller: US Government
- samRec'd a call @11:15 am today from US GOVERNMENT 410-965-1234. I did not pick up and they left no message. If it is authentic, I would suspect they would leave a message to ask for a call back. I suspect SCAM.

- Tygerkat replies to BarbaraWhy are you replying to a post from 2009?!
Better advice would be, if you have doubts -and you should- hang up and call your local office. Phone numbers are too easily spoofed so you should never give some random caller any personal information. - Tygerkat replies to BarbaraRight. Government offices work on the weekend.
- Tygerkat replies to BarbaraThere are many other ways to verify my identity. You don't need any part of my social security number.
- TanyettaI had recieve a call from a girl name Latisha. She said that I had a workman's comp case that they need the info from it to send to her if not they will be taking almost $600 off my monthly benefits.
