I got my domain name from Godaddy a few days ago, and got the call just now - does this mean that Godaddy leaks info? Not liking this - should I cancel and get it from elsewhere? They already have my contact info anyway, but still....................

They got it from your domain registration.  Go to whois [dot] domaintools [dot] com [slash] your-domain-name.com and you can see your name, address, phone number and email address.

This is why you should either use a "proxy" (hidden) registration option, or your job title and company name rather than your actual name, when registering a domain name.  Also, set up a Google Voice (go to voice [dot] google [dot] com and register and get a free phone number that you can have forward to your real number during the registration process, but then automatically send the calls to Google's built-in voicemail (without ringing your real phone) from then on.

You probably will NOT get calls due to the renewal.  Usually, these marketers only look for NEW registrations.

Nope, Thanks to ICANN any domain registrar's information (address, phone number, etc) is public info. They get a hold of these numbers and call you.

Exactly same happened today. I never answered the call but I just checked the number and see the other people's comments, same thing happened the other day 2 times from different numbers that said they were there to help me build my website immediately after I purchased a domain name from GoDaddy. something is terribly wrong here. You can't do anything anymore online, purchase anything, inquire about anything, before you're receiving calls from these Pakistanians, or someone from other countries. What happened to the USA??

Just registered a domain name yesterday on GoDaddy.com and didn't select the private registration option.  As a result, "Justin" (obviously not his real name) and/or this company called me multiple times today to hock their web development services.  They've been blocked now.

All url registrations are public (name, phone,  adress) unless you pay for a privacy feature. It's basically the same for everyone.

It's this company: https://www.elagoondigital.com/. Their usa number ends in 89, not 90, but the Indian guy said it was them. I have gotten several calls each day since buying some new domains a few days ago. They just hang up everytime I answer. I went to their site, and gave then a huge piece of my mind on their contact form! And, NO, I did not give them my actual email address :)
