- ChristyThey called and I had a hard time understanding the man talking. The guy said I had recently created a domain but I didn't. BUT check your credit card statements! I found charges I didn't make - all to the same company. When I called Capital One, the rep asked if I had purchased a domain recently! Obviously, the call and the credit card fraud are related!
- DPIt's basically extortion. Pay or get assaulted.
Go Download the FREE app "Should I Answer" They have a very large database of these and other types of douch-bags. If the number is on their list it auto blocks them and tells you why, you have the option to call them back or whitelist them. You can also report them in app and their blocked forever! I too register a lot of domains and was going nut's until I found this. Unlike some apps it will NOT let them leave a message, they just go away. It does beep when they try and I don't even look at my phone I just do an impulse evil chuckle... :)> You should see the looks I get.- Caller: spammers

- AnonymousThey are calling from a Texas number, but based in India & Australia. www.elagoondigital.com is their website, soliciting several domain services, and probably received your number from a whois search. Called me twice and hung up so fast that my phone lit up but didn't get a chance to ring. Third time I was able to talk to someone from their India location and received the above information for you.

- GG replies to Kelly JoI purchased from Go Daddy Monday the calls have not stopped
- Vicky replies to MichelleThe same thing happened to me. Scammer alert.
- NoCal JesLooks like, YET ANOTHER, spammer that I got from registering a domain a week ago from HostGator.com.
- anonI didn't answer and no message was left, but like many other posters here, I've had a massive amount of these types of calls after registering another domain 2 days ago. It's something I've come to expect after decades of domain ownership. Yes, they scrape the domain registry for 'fresh meat' to pester, and no I will NOT pay a wad of extra cash every year to hide away. I simply block future calls and ignore the idiots making them.
- mikeI do not pick up the receiver when getting calls from unknown sources, so they hang up w/o leaving message.
- Tim replies to NickNick... that is not the key. The ICANN domain contract states that (aside from privacy services) if you provide any fake information in a domain whois database record, they have the ability to cancel or revoke registration of said domain... then you're hosed.
- Zac replies to Adam| 2 repliesProbably not a good idea to impersonate law enforcement. Certainly isn't legal.
- Zac replies to LeoFor just as many that charge to hide this information there are just as many that do not charge.
- John RGuys, when you register a new domain name, your personal information becomes public via Whois lookup. It's not that they stole private information, they are using public information that is available to anyone looking for it. However how they are utilizing the information is for the wrong reasons.
In any case there is a way to protect yourself. By using Whois privacy protection. Some registrars offer free Whois privacy. Here's a list: http://www.sbwebcenter.com/directory/compare-domain-registrars/- Caller: Spammer

- BrandBuilder replies to Kelly JoI won't matter who you buy it from. They don't get it from your host provider or your Registrar
They get it from your WhoIs information. That is public. The only way to hide it is to pay extra for "Privacy" ... then your Registrar will hide your info behind their name - Steve replies to MichelleI don't think they are trying to hack you. Instead, they're trying to sell you SEO or web development services. These people are typically based in India, so they don't give a crap about spam or telemarketing laws.
- PaulWow, I bought a domain over the weekend and now I am getting bombarded by calls and texts to develop websites, apps, etc. I will never give out my cell phone number again when buying a domain...
- RayOversees spammers selling scam web deals.

- Greg replies to Kelly JoI too used Go Daddy and this number is also calling me.
- Any Domain Registrar replies to Former GoDaddy UserALL Registrars give ICANN your info. It's required. That's where they get this info unless you make your registration PRIVATE. It's not GoDaddy, HostGator, 1 and 1's fault. Just call and tell them you are going to contact your local AG and that you're on the Do Not Call list and they will stop. Works for me.
- Sarah replies to Kelly JoI'm getting a million calls and text a day and I did mine with godaddy!
- V3 replies to Former GoDaddy UserActually every company publishes the registration data on a domain registration. This is required by ICANN regulations and is known as the WHOIS data. There are services that can offer private registration but that is kind of a joke in the big picture.
GoDaddy is actually one of the better ones out there as they require additional steps to view registration data. This is to stop the "spidering" of data by bots for the purpose of harvesting contact info.
